I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 242
“You don’t need to worry about Euseniel.”
Euseniel is stronger than I am.
Unlike me, with my fragile and unyielding soul, she possesses a strong and radiant spirit.
As Euseniel’s magic gathers, filling the emptiness of my heart, a tingling sensation spreads through my chest.
“Your Majesty!”
One day, someone who shouldn’t have been at the frontlines appeared.
“My daughter…!”
It was Duke Hardland.
It seems the Chancellor tried his best to keep the news of Euseniel’s kidnapping hidden, but it eventually came to light. He looked back and forth between Panet and me, demanding answers, but we had nothing to say.
“Really…”
The Duke stumbled and leaned on the table.
After a long silence, he broke it with a remark that seemed foolish.
“The Duchess will be pleased.”
“Is that something you should be saying?”
The Duke flared up.
“Euseniel is the one who wanted to marry you, Your Majesty. It was her wish, and I had no choice but to turn a blind eye to it.”
He spoke without taking a breath.
“Even now, I don’t want my daughter to marry you. But I would rather she marry you than that bastard from the Southern Empire! If he forces her into marriage, I’ll go and kill him myself.”
Euseniel’s wish is truly me. Should I be happy in this situation, or is that insane?
The Duke, clutching his chest and gasping for breath, continued. He pulled out some documents from his coat, explaining that the main issue was related to food supplies. He expressed his intention to head to the capital.
“I’ll be heading back.”
“Already? Aren’t you going to wait for Euseniel?”
“There are many sons and daughters of the Northern Empire on the battlefield. Euseniel will come eventually.”
Duke Hardland spoke the same words Euseniel had once said.
“Even if she loses her life, I have no regrets. I’m just glad she’s still alive.”
It wasn’t just to check on Euseniel’s well-being.
Though he was soft and yielding toward his daughter, the Duke was firm in situations like this. His heart seemed like it would break, but his expression was that of a minister, not a father.
“I apologize for showing such a disheveled side of myself, Your Majesty. General Panet, and the other generals and staff. I’m always sorry for not being able to offer much help while you all suffer at the frontlines.”
“No, we’re the ones grateful for the supplies you send on time.”
General Panet helped the Duke get up after bowing deeply.
“No matter how hard we fight, nothing can be done if the supplies run out.”
“That’s just what’s needed. We can’t have our soldiers starving while they fight.”
Duke Hardland, who asked if anything else was needed, was escorted by a soldier to the magic circle.
“Truly the iron-blooded Hardland.”
Once the Duke left, the Kelt commander clicked his tongue.
“I now understand how Lady Hardland is able to remain so composed.”
Euseniel’s usual calm and expressionless demeanor wasn’t necessarily from her resemblance to the Duke, but I didn’t bother correcting the misunderstanding.
* * *
It had been about three weeks since Euseniel was captured.
General Panet and others began to believe I had a great deal of patience. As I kept my ears open, I overheard what they discussed when I was away.
“Didn’t you say it wasn’t a political marriage, but a love affair?”
“That’s right. I heard it’s been quite a special relationship for several years now.”
“Heh heh, how much His Majesty likes Miss Euel! It’s been well-known since the days I was a high-level wizard. Heh heh heh.”
“His Majesty, who is usually so quick-tempered, must be struggling to hold back from destroying everything. We must do our best too.”
This conversation spread among the knights and lower-ranked soldiers, and a few others who had their own experiences added to the chatter, turning it into a huge issue. Later, a strange sympathy began to grow, boosting the morale of the soldiers, as reported by General Panet.
However, we still hadn’t figured out where the Southern Empire forces were coming from, and the situation remained stagnant.
Around this time, Euseniel returned.
There was no warning.
I didn’t even feel the flow of magic, yet you appeared out of thin air.
Euseniel, my Euseniel.
With your disheveled appearance, you smiled brightly.
“Tess.”
You called my name and smiled, and it was so beautiful it made me want to cry.
But it wasn’t the time to be lost in admiration.
“Call a doctor. A wizard too!”
General Panet dashed out of the meeting room, and I took Euseniel in my arms and headed to the bedroom.
“Euseniel, Euseniel.”
Her face was pale, in stark contrast to the red stains on her lips. There were also red marks on her clothes.
“Why are you so cold? Huh?”
I removed her wet clothes and untied the fabric wrapped around her feet. I saw cuts and scratches on her feet and calves.
“Aahh, Euseniel.”
I gently cradled her feet and massaged them. As I rubbed, her stiff toes began to move slightly. I kissed the top of her feet and gently rubbed them.
There was no scent of Euseniel, only the smell of water and grass.
“Euseniel.”
I sat beside her who was wrapped in blankets. As I gently wiped her pale cheeks, a small blush appeared.
“Your Majesty, the doctor is here.”
Though I had knowledge of healing from the devil within me, I feared there might be something I missed, so I had the doctor come.
Soon, a wizard also arrived.
“Your Majesty.”
Of all the people General Panet could have called, it had to be that damn Weathering Blest.
I wanted to send him away, but I couldn’t use healing magic myself.
The devil’s power doesn’t heal others’ wounds—it only causes harm.
“Here, here.”
Seeing Weathering Blest acting as if he was hurt by Euseniel’s wounds was unbearable, but Euseniel’s treatment came first.
