“It’s possible the Southern Empire has hidden forces as well, so it would be best for us to keep Lady Hardland’s abilities under wraps.”

“Haha, even if they find out, she’s strong enough to make a significant difference.”

The Grand Wizard seemed pleased, which irked me. It felt like he was considering Euseniel as his successor.

Who knows, Euseniel might choose to be a Grand Wizard instead of an Empress…

No, it doesn’t matter since I won’t let her go anyway.

If the person Euseniel mentioned is indeed a traitor, then it’s highly likely our information has leaked.

If they know we only have one Grand Wizard and three high-level wizards, there will be limits to secretly allowing Euseniel to use magic.

While I have a general understanding of the Southern Empire’s strength, as General Panet said, there may be something they’re keeping secret. After all, their Emperor is exceptionally cunning.

“First, let’s create two more false high-level wizards.”

We probably won’t use the two we conjure up.

Even if I try to stop Euseniel, she’ll want to do whatever she pleases, so it’s better to keep her in my line of sight. She has truly become strong.

While her magical power may still be lacking compared to mine, and her techniques aren’t as refined, she’s much improved since I saw her in Alin.

“Summon those two here, and let Euseniel handle the magic.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

After a moment of gauging my reaction, General Panet cautiously brought up another request.

“I’ve heard several times that Lady Hardland is an exceptional swordswoman. Perhaps—”

“—Denied. We’re not lacking leaders in our military right now.”

“Understood, Your Majesty.”

Neither I nor the Emperor of the Southern Empire directly participated in battle.

We both know that if we were to interfere, it would surpass the level of a human conflict, especially since we have similar powers.

However, if Euseniel were to engage directly, the situation would change.

Euseniel, my partner.

You are too strong to remain hidden. While the enemy may have noticed the magic you wielded, it’s likely they only have suspicions.

Above all, I don’t want anyone to see you.

The Emperor of the Southern Empire will covet my strong, beautiful, and radiant partner.

Because you shine brightly, Euseniel.

“First, here’s the plan assuming we’re only supporting with magic.”

“I think I’ll need to maintain the defensive magic a few more times, hohoho.”

“In the meantime, the two freed high-level wizards will be assigned knights to investigate where the Southern Empire’s forces are repeatedly appearing.”

“Let’s proceed with that.”

I can’t feel the enemy closing in on me. Is this the power of the Southern Empire’s Emperor, or could there be some allies I don’t know about?

The dragon remains neutral, but one can never be sure. Even if they avoid direct involvement, they might still be helping the Southern Empire.

“And what do you think we should do about the traitor?”

“Up until now, the enemy hasn’t been able to read our army’s movements, right?”

“Yes.”

“The only goal can be me. Well, killing me in this situation would be akin to surrendering us to the south.”

General Panet’s eyebrows twitched.

“In that case, let’s leave it for now. I don’t want to create unnecessary turmoil by capturing them. However, if I sense anything suspicious, we’ll suppress them immediately.”

For now, we’re just exhausting each other’s resources and soldiers.

If we continue to be at a standstill, it will drag on indefinitely, but what could they be planning?

“First and foremost, we need to either secure the islands or find out where they keep appearing from.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“I’ll leave the simple tasks to the general. Unless it’s urgent, don’t summon me.”

Without waiting for a response, I left the room.

When I came back, I found Euseniel asleep on my bed. Her gentle breathing resembled that of a baby bird, making me smile.

“You must be quite tired.”

Not having washed up before leaving, my marks were still vividly present on her body. As I softly touched the inside of her thighs, I felt the dry remnants.

“I guess I should clean you up…?”

After thoroughly washing her, I even dried her hair myself. I carefully laid her down on the sheets, being cautious not to wake her.

Sitting beside her, I gathered a handful of her black hair. As I buried my nose in it, a delicate, subtle fragrance wafted up.

My beloved Euseniel.

The transparent soul plate remains vividly apparent, yet I still love her.

When Euseniel opens her eyes, she might feel embarrassed and get angry, but I held her close without putting anything on her. I wanted to feel her even more closely.

“Uung…”

I wondered what dream she was having as she murmured in her sleep.

“I missed you, Euseniel.”

In this place, day after day, the air is tainted with malicious shouts and murderous intent towards each other, while the wet red blood soaks the floor.

Seeing the blood should calm my heart, yet it feels as if the devil was slowly consuming me, and the threads of reason are growing thinner.

I long to throw myself into that frenzied battlefield, swinging my sword to cleave everything in sight.

What do I care for a country? I want to kill, kill, and kill—

—Hah.

Startled by my own madness, I jolted awake. Later, I found myself unable to sleep, holding onto my sanity, but it felt like I was losing my mind in a different way.

If I go mad, those damned dragons will surely intervene.

Then Euseniel, I won’t be able to return to you.

“My beloved Euseniel.”

On the day I left, I whispered that I loved you. I must not lose my mind, as I have to go meet you.

But a part of me feels broken, and it seems impossible to turn back…

From afar, I think I hear the monsters howling.

“Uung, Tess…”

As I buried my nose in the crown of Euseniel’s head while she slept, I caught a whiff of a familiar scent.

The warmth rising in my empty chest brought a sense of drowsiness.

Euseniel’s warm body temperature made my eyes close.

For the first time in a long while, I was able to sleep soundly.
