I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 173
To be honest, I don’t actually know if Euseniel dislikes illegitimate children. And to be precise, Weathering Blest isn’t even a product of an affair.
So, there’s no reason for Euseniel to dislike the scholar based on his background. Essentially, what I said was a lie.
This story will surely make him overthink.
Is what the Emperor said true or false?
And while he’s pondering, he won’t dare to show any interest in Euseniel.
“…I will take my leave.”
Seemingly having no other response, the scholar again said he would leave, and I didn’t bother to reply. I just watched his soul and laughed.
A while later, Euseniel headed to County Daidi’s domain.
* * *
The team consisted of the guide Ruby, investigator Weathering and me, researchers, business associates of Count Daidi, and imperial knights provided by the imperial family.
We reviewed the maps and guides distributed by Ruby and Weathering, and upon arriving at the Count’s domain, we were to receive further instructions on precautions.
The meeting place was set at the Count Daidi’s residence.
“Going with Ruby feels like we’re on a trip.”
“Me too! I’m thrilled to be with you, Euseniel. Gael was so jealous.”
As I arrived early and chatted with Ruby, the rest of the team gradually joined us. Most were dressed comfortably.
“Hello, I’m Carin Heights. Nice to see you again, Lady.”
Carin Heights and I were quite familiar, having been at the Concium around the same time and because she had applied several times to be Weathering’s assistant.
“It’s surprising to be part of the same team. I thought your major was something else back at the Concium.”
“County Heights has quite an interest in mining. I’m representing our family here.”
“I see. I hope we can work well together during this exploration.”
As Weathering, the researchers and wizards arrived, Weathering’s expression upon seeing Carin Heights wasn’t very bright, indicating he hadn’t wanted this.
Ruby also didn’t seem too thrilled about Carin Heights’ presence.
“The mine we’re headed to is being developed jointly with County Heights. Based on our domain, to the left is County Jester’s domain, and to the right is County Heights’s.”
I nodded, having already familiarized myself with this information from the map.
“The Heights were developing a mine that turned out to be connected to our territory, so we’re collaborating…”
Ruby’s face darkened.
“That woman wasn’t originally on the team list. It seems she has no real interest in the mine, making things complicated. Despite the long-distance travel using magic circles, why would she wear such an extravagant dress?”
I could guess the reason but couldn’t comment on someone else’s personal affairs, so I remained silent.
Ruby didn’t take long to figure out Carin Heights’ intentions.
“Did that woman come following Dr. Weathering Blest?”
The group decided to split into two carriages, and Carin Heights strongly insisted on being in the same carriage as Weathering.
Originally, the first carriage was to be occupied by Weathering, Ruby, me, and Aden, while the second carriage was designated for Carin Heights and others involved for their family’s benefit.
Carin Heights objected to this arrangement.
“Why can’t I move to the first carriage when there’s no lack of space?”
“You’re aware that the mine is located in a special area, aren’t you, Lady Heights?”
Weathering’s gaze from behind his glasses was icy, but Carin Heights stood her ground and replied.
“Yes.”
“We’ll be discussing matters related to that.”
The implication was clear, she would be an interference.
“I’ve continued my studies, too. I graduated from the Concium, and now I’m-“
“Your major wasn’t in this field, was it?”
“Then why is Lady Hardland, who is neither a researcher nor any longer an assistant to the doctor, riding with you?”
“That’s because Lady Hard;and is smarter than you, Lady Heights.”
Weathering’s retort was sharp enough to seem rude to an outsider, leaving Carin Heights flushed with embarrassment.
“Lady Hard;and has been researching magic storms for the past three years. I will not tolerate any disrespect towards a guest I’ve personally invited.”
“…”
“Let’s go, Lady Hardland.”
Weathering strode away without looking back. Carin Heights, with a crestfallen face, watched his departing figure and then shivered as if suddenly realizing something.
“If my earlier words felt rude, I apologize, Lady Hardland.”
She bowed excessively. Though I was irked by her singling me out, it wasn’t enough to anger me.
I just smiled and headed towards the carriage, with Ruby grumbling on my behalf.
“Why did she have to pick on you of all people?”
“Because I’m the most inexplicable role here.”
“And you’re just going to let that slide? If it were me, I really would’ve-“
“Haha, Ruby. I get where you’re coming from, but remember, we’re in the midst of a joint project with County Heights.”
Due to the involvement of family matters, Ruby quickly calmed down.
“Starting off with a commotion isn’t good. It wasn’t severe rudeness, after all, something like this can be overlooked.”
It wasn’t because my family name, Hardrand, was involved that I held back; I truly wasn’t angry. To me, Carin Heights was of less significance than a pebble rolling under my feet.
After traveling through a series of magical circles for three days, we arrived at Count Daidi’s estate.
“To think I’d actually get to see Mount Kitaq, something I’ve only heard about in stories.”
The northern continent is rich in mountainous terrains, boasting many famous mountains. Among them, Mount Kitaq, the highest peak in the Kiriq mountains that crosses both Daidi and Heights estate, is one of those famous mountains.
“If we finish our work early, let’s take a look around. It’s incredibly mystical and beautiful. I think you’d like it, Euel.”
Ruby appeared excited for visiting her homeland after a long while.
