I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 137
Is it too terrible to smile at that messed-up, despairing face?
“I really don’t know what you’re trying to ask forgiveness for. So, I have nothing to forgive you, Your Majesty.”
My mouth started burning at the hands enveloping my back and the warm scent, but I resisted.
“Kneeling to a mere nobleman’s daughter, it’s such a shame that I don’t know what to do.”
“Euseniel, I was wrong. I was entirely wrong.”
While the pain filled his heavily distorted eyes, I remained resolute.
Only Tess and I were on the terrace, no one dared to enter the terrace.
To create some distance between Tess and me, I stepped back until I reached the railing. I smiled defiantly as Tess approached.
“Don’t come any closer.”
“Euseniel.”
“Do I need to fall for you to regain your senses?”
Despite trembling with a sense of betrayal towards Tess, I threatened him with his own affection for me. Tess immediately halted.
As I leaned against the railing, I felt the chilly autumn wind brushing against my cheeks and the exposed arms beyond my sleeves.
Despite the grandiose lighting from the terrace inside, Tess’s face shone pale in the darkness. His black hair billowing in the wind appeared forlorn.
“You know, Tess.”
When I called him, the darkened irises lit up.
“Yes, Euseniel.”
“If I had to list the thing I detest most in this world, it would be betraying the one you love.”
“…..”
“Because, in my past life, my father left my mother for another woman.”
I struck a nail into his ashen face.
“Didn’t I tell you? The place I lived in my past life was somewhere where people who loved each other only looked at each other. In such a place, my father, the man who brought me into this world, first married my mother and later said he loved another woman.”
I was skeptical about marriage because I couldn’t trust anyone.
As I added this, Tess’s lips turned pale and quivered slightly.
“So don’t expect anything from me anymore, Tess.”
I have no intention of forgiving you.
This time, I didn’t add anything further, but Tess seemed to have read my thoughts, as he clenched his fists. It was time to draw the line.
“Your Majesty, do you enjoy putting me in a difficult situation?”
“Euseniel, I……”
“Your Majesty has always been like that. You never considered anyone else’s feelings and did whatever you wanted.”
I used to think of Tess as a child who needed to be protected and cared for. But not anymore.
“If someone dislikes you, understand that they do.”
“….”
“Don’t try to back people into a corner and get what you want like this.”
In a sense, I was stirring up gossip again.
I wanted to avoid this situation that had turned into a complete mess, but for the sake of my family standing under the bright light on the terrace, I took a step forward.
Even if I walked past, Tess stayed there without moving.
Since I had never hurt my young friend even once, my heart felt heavy. However, when I saw the pale face of Louise Hitty inside the party, my mood improved.
Of course, the joy was short-lived.
“Eu, Euel.”
I received the gazes from Father, who doesn’t know what to say, bewildered mother, and shocked Gael with the many people filling the party. I wanted to run away immediately.
“You don’t think they’ll start playing a dance song, do you?”
Meanwhile, a calming voice from Weathering came in the midst of this. He had come to my side unnoticed.
“I know. The ball had started.”
I responded, pretending like nothing happened. I wanted to direct my gaze somewhere without people, but there was no such place.
“Is His Majesty outside?”
“Chancellor?”
The former Count Jester, suddenly appeared, interrupting the attention that was focused on me.
“Sorry for suddenly speaking to you, Lady. Is His Majesty outside?”
“He was there before I entered.”
The Chancellor was followed by the chief attendant, both of them rushing outside with pale faces. Since I pretended not to notice when they arrived, I turned my head outside the hall.
Outside the railing, only dry leaves rustled ominously, and there was no one else.
Kua-kuang!
Suddenly, there was a loud noise, accompanied by a strong tremor.
“An earthquake?”
“Kyaaaak!”
The crystal chandelier fell to the floor with a clatter, and dust and debris flew as if something was collapsing inside the building.
“WIzards, gather around the hall’s edge! Cast shield spells all at once!”
Weathering cast a sonorous spell and shouted, causing the people who had been moving chaotically to stop for a moment. Seizing this moment, Weathering beckoned the Chancellor.
“Chancellor.”
“Thank you, Lord Blest. Please follow the knights’ guidance and leave the hall calmly.”
Following the Chancellor’s orders, Weathering reassured those inside and instructed the knights who had been guarding the hall to help guide the people out safely.
“I will take care of this area. Chancellor, please go and look for His Majesty.”
Without any further greetings, the Chancellor hastily disappeared outside a small door opposite the main entrance of the hall. Shortly after, thunderous sounds filled the air, accompanied by rainfall.
My father, who had been watching the situation all along, called out. The Chancellor made a request with a grim face.
“Your Excellency.”
“Minister, please return with your family first and then come back to the palace.”
“Your Excellency, I can assist.”
“No. Please comfort the Lady.”
The conversation, clearly audible in my keen ears, left me feeling quite bewildered. What’s more important right now is not me.
“Go for now.”
Father seemed to have resolved himself upon seeing the Chancellor’s firm stance.
“Take care, Euel.”
“Be careful, Weathering.”
“Sister, let’s go quickly.”
Gael, who tightly held my hand, looked very anxious, and Mother’s expression was also extremely troubled. It seemed that her discomfort was due to mental unease rather than a physical condition.
