I Didn't Lull You to Sleep Only for You to Be Obsessed With Me - Chapter 8
The scones have a crunchy texture. However, if you knead a lot, gluten would be produced, and instead of a crispy texture, the texture could instead be like bread. Then, the roughly mixed dough was placed on a cutting board before being rolled with a rolling pin.
“Now, does Asher want to make the shapes?”
“Yes!”
Saying so, April placed a round cookie cutter in Asher’s hand.
It was slightly smaller than a child’s fist. Excited, the child cut the dough with a cookie cutter. His two white cheeks fluttered every time he pressed the dough with strength. As April watched his cute appearance with delight, she then placed the cut dough on a buttered pan and put it in the preheated oven.
Oh, she also did not forget to brush the surface of the dough with egg wash before baking.
The scones slowly began to rise in the oven, which looked transparent inside. Asher pushed his face closer to the oven door as he watched the sight curiously.
“Wow…”
“Asher, it’s hot so be careful. Don’t get too close.”
“Yes!”
He was a very obedient child.
As soon as she finished her words, he moved his small feet back and observed the oven a few steps away. The child’s eyes staring into the oven sparkled with anticipation.
While the scones were being baked, April cut the smoked ham into large pieces and baked them. Since she did not get to eat dinner last night either, her mouth was already watering from hunger at the sizzling sound and the salty smell emerging from the ham. Twenty minutes later, the scones were taken out of the oven.
The golden surface of the scones looked very scrumptious. When she grabbed the scone with both hands and split it in half, it made a brittle sound before revealing its fluffy inside. Steam rose from the cut section, and the scent of butter permeated April’s nose.
After spreading a lot of strawberry jam on it, she then put it on Asher’s plate.
“It’s hot, so eat carefully.”
“Yes! Thank you for the food!”
Huu, huu, huuu—
After blowing the scone, he took a bite out of it.
The taste of sweet and sour strawberry jam, combined with the savory and light scones, filled Asher’s mouth. Soon, a smile settled on the child’s lips. It seemed that he really liked the fluffy texture of the scones.
“It’s warm, like a sweet snow melting in my mouth!”
After taking a sip of hot chocolate, the child closed his eyes and shook his body as he raised his thumb up towards her. April smiled along, too, while eating her scones. She liked the texture of the scone that was crispy and melted in her mouth.
“Asher, we have a place to go to after this.”
“Where?”
Sparing her answer, April just smiled meaningfully.

After breakfast, April packed the scones and jam beautifully. Leaving the cafe, she held Asher’s hand, who was curious throughout the whole packing. Their destination was the bakery they went to earlier.
“Why are we here?”
Asher lowered his eyes anxiously.
After all, reaching out to a person who was reluctant to do so was difficult even for an adult, April. How much more terrifying would it be for Asher, a child? She felt sorry for the child. The fact that a five-year-old child was quick to notice little things like this meant that he had been discriminated against a lot, whether he realized it or not.
‘There’s absolutely no reason to be discriminated against.’
Not having a father was not a bad thing or anything to be ashamed of. What was terrible was the prejudices of adults.
“It’s okay.”
Reassuring him, April grabbed the child’s hand and went inside.
“Welcome… Ah…”
The bakery owner, who had greeted her brightly, frowned as if in trouble.
“Right now, the bread…”
“No. I’m not here to buy bread.”
“Then…?”
“I baked some scones. I’m here to share some with you.”
April interrupted her and winked at Asher. Hesitated, the child held out the paper envelope he was holding to the owner.
“It’s just been baked, so it’s still warm. It tastes good when it is warm, so try it.”
“I’m fine…”
“Wow… Asher, what’s that?”
Behind the owner’s back, a girl with pigtails stuck out her head. She was a child the same age as Asher. Seeing her, Asher hurriedly changed his target and handed the envelope to the girl.
“It was baked by me and sister April. Try it.”
“Wow! It looks delicious. Thank you!”
April let out a small sigh of relief.
‘Still, this child treats Asher without discrimination.’
The bakery owner gave thanks for her daughter, who was suddenly given an envelope, grimacing her face.
“Thank you. We’ll eat it well.”
“Yes. Then, let’s take care of each other well in the future.”
Smiling at her, April left the shop. Only after they had moved away from the bakery to some extent that Asher open his mouth to her.
“Why did sister give it to her?”
