“Beris Street? Where is it?”
Asher, who had come to look for April early in the morning, asked as he watched her getting ready to go out.
“It’s the busiest street in the capital. There’s a lot to see there.”
“Then, I want to go too!”
As the child exclaimed, raising his hand eagerly, April simply nodded her head. She was about to invite him to come along anyway.
“All right, then go change your clothes quickly. I’ll talk to the Duke, and let’s have breakfast outside. It’ll be more like brunch than breakfast.”
“Is Uncle coming too?”
Asher hesitated.
“Why, don’t you want to go if the Duke is coming?”
“No! It’s not that! I’ll get ready quickly and come!”
April let out a small sigh as she watched Asher’s back as he ran toward his room.
‘I guess we still have a long way to go before they become close.’
Despite the fact that the child had said otherwise, it seemed a bit daunting for him to go out with Claude.
‘How can I make them closer?’
Baking cookies together? It would be a great way to connect with the child, but it felt like Claude would cut off her head if she brought it up to him. bringing up conversation topics felt like risking her neck with him.
April absentmindedly rubbed her neck and shivered.
Or should she ask him to teach one of Asher’s classes? Perhaps he could teach swordsmanship…
Either way, April found herself in a quasi-nanny role in this mansion. Although nobody had asked her to, she felt a burning sense of duty to improve the relationship between Asher and Claude.
“I’m here!”
While she was lost in various thoughts, Asher, dressed for the outing, came running towards her, and she took the child’s hand.
“The Duke must be waiting. Let’s go quickly.”
However, there was a problem. Mrs. Danvers, Asher’s tutor, stood in front of them with a stern face.
“I’m afraid not, Miss April. Young Master Asher must attend a basic liberal arts class today.”
Asher flinched at her sharp tone. His shoulders stiffened as he nervously twiddled his fingers with a timid look on his face.
“I’m okay, sister.”
It was a complete turnaround from when he had been asking to go out just a moment ago.
April glanced between the two with a slight furrow of her brow.
‘Isn’t Asher feeling too intimidated?’
Of course, children could be intimidated by strict teachers. However, Asher had a bold personality, not backing down even against people who disapproved of him or Claude. It was the first time she had seen the child so hunched over like this.
‘I need to find out what’s going on.’
It was the moment when April made that promise and was about to say something to Mrs. Danvers—
“I permit it.”
—Claude approached them before she knew it and spoke quietly. Mrs. Danvers greeted him politely, but she didn’t relent.
“But, Your Grace, that’s not permissible.”
Claude answered without hiding his displeasure.
“Didn’t I say I allowed it?”
“But, Your Grace. Young Master has just begun his succession lessons. If he skips classes for trivial reasons like this, it sets a bad precedent…”
…Bad precedent? Was she seriously suggesting that this would become a bad habit? In addition, how could anyone even think of saying such a thing to a child?
She tried to stay silent, but she couldn’t. However, just as April was about to speak up, Claude opened his mouth first in a chilling tone.
“Are you questioning my decision?”
Nevertheless, Mrs. Danvers remained steadfast.
“I speak for the sake of Winterville.”
“Did you say it was trivial?”
Uttering his words, he approached Mrs. Danvers before taking hold of her chin and meeting her gaze.
[ T/N: Okay but why is he doing that to her AHHAH |д•´)!! ]
“Didn’t I say I permitted it? Though that’s trivial?”
“No, of course not. I misspoke.”
Only then did Claude release her chin and gestured towards Asher and April.
“Get into the carriage.”
“But…”
Asher hesitated.
“I have a class…”
April slowly approached and took the child’s hand.
“I want to go with you, Asher. Will you come with sister?”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
A smile blossomed on Asher’s once sullen face.
“Okay then!”
“If Asher likes it, then sister likes it too.”
“Then get in quickly.”
Claude urged.
Just as before, she climbed into the carriage, escorted by him as before. Asher also received his help and boarded the carriage, followed by Claude himself.
The carriage carrying the three of them went on its way.
Asher, who had never seen the capital before, seemed a bit overwhelmed at first, but soon, he became excited as he looked out the window.
“Wow, sister, look at that!”
