Chapter 25.1
Asher was sick.
The day after visiting the palace, the child’s fever started rising from dawn. The attending physician, who was hastily summoned, diagnosed it as a result of his tension being relieved.
“He doesn’t have a fever or anything particularly wrong. It’s probably due to stress, so he should be fine after a day or two.”
April calmly accepted that fact.
‘It’s because he’s a child. Besides, Asher seems to be naturally vulnerable to stress.’
When Asher was driven away by his aunt Sara in the severe territory, his fever rose. Looking at it, it seemed to be a natural tendency of the child.
However, unlike her, the people in the mansion didn’t take this matter lightly. Even if there was nothing wrong, the successor being unwell was a serious matter, so naturally, the entire mansion went into a state of emergency. Even Claude, who always seemed calm, unexpectedly hurriedly gave various instructions to the butler and Lloyd.
“Go and summon the priest.”
She was a little puzzled by his instructions.
Conventional healing magic could only treat physical injuries. Therefore, the ability to artificially lower a fever was limited to those with divine power and similar attributes, such as white wizards. So, under normal circumstances, it would be natural to call for a priest.
However, who was next to Asher right now?
April Renoen.
She was a white attribute wizard who had put Claude Winterville to sleep. So, it meant that she could bring down Asher’s fever. While it wasn’t something she had intended, it had happened before. April quietly pondered as she looked at Claude’s expression, which was no different from usual.
‘Even though it seems like he’s unaffected, I guess he was a bit flustered.’
…Considering that he didn’t even think about her abilities despite having her right next to him.
At the thought, she cleared her throat softly to get his attention.
“Heum, Duke?”
“I don’t know what’s going on, but can we talk about it later?”
“It’s not that, Duke.”
She boldly tapped Claude’s arm, and only then did he look at her.
April grinned.
“You have me.”
“Why are you… Oh, I see.”
Claude mumbled softly.
“You were here.”
“Now you understand, right?”
“Though is it possible?”
“This has happened before. Don’t worry.”
This time, she could answer with certainty. Even in Saran’s estate, Asher had a fever, and he recovered immediately after drinking the hot chocolate she had made.
April clenched her fists tightly.
“Please wait in the room. I’ll make some hot chocolate for Ashe. Oh, by the way.”
Before heading to the kitchen, she said jokingly, trying to ease Claude’s tension.
“You know this is separate from our contract, right? I need an additional allowance for this.”
However, he readily responded.
“I’ll make sure to compensate you adequately.”
His serious words left her speechless instead. April widened her eyes for a moment and then burst into laughter.
“It’s a joke. Are you treating me like someone who only cares about money?”
Seeing the look on Claude’s face as he stared at her, he seemed to say, ‘Don’t you just care about money?’ April felt embarrassed for no reason and shouted.
“I have something called compassion, too!”
“Yes, I’d say so.”
“No, I’m not saying that, but… Never mind. I’ll just go make some hot chocolate quickly.”
While she immediately headed for the kitchen, it seemed like she could hear Claude’s laughter, which wasn’t suitable for the situation, behind her. As she rushed to the kitchen like fleeing, Hans, who was preparing soup for Asher, acknowledged her. They had become friends since the time they had tasted Sacher-Torte together.
“Miss April, what’s going on? If it’s about soup, the maids can bring it to you.”
“Asher… No, I’m going to make hot chocolate for the Duke since he wants to drink it.”
“Oh, if that’s the case, please wait a moment. I’ll provide the ingredients for you.”
Hans, burning with enthusiasm, generously supplied the necessary ingredients. Thanks to that, she was able to make a more luxurious hot chocolate than the ones she had made in Saran’s estate. After melting the chocolate and mixing it with milk, she didn’t forget to finish it off with a fervent wish.
‘I hope Asher gets better soon.’
“Wow.”
As she appeared with a mug emitting a sweet aroma, Asher, despite his illness, brightened up.
April was heartbroken to see the child’s face become even paler during her brief visit to the kitchen. She carefully handed the mug to his hands, and Asher eagerly finished the hot chocolate with enthusiasm. Even telling her to eat slowly didn’t help.
“Is it really delicious?”
“Yes, hehe.”
“You shouldn’t lie down right away, so let’s sit for a while before lying down.”
“Yes.”
Asher was a well-behaved child who obediently listened to her words. April leaned against the headboard and gently stroked Asher’s head as he sat. Perhaps it was because of the mood, but now that he had just finished drinking hot chocolate, his forehead seemed a bit cooler than before.
The child seemed to feel the same way as he smiled brightly.
“I feel like I have energy after eating hot chocolate.”
“Really? You’re not saying that because you want to eat again, are you?”
