I Didn't Lull You to Sleep Only for You to Be Obsessed With Me - Chapter 25

Chapter 13.2
In an instant, the memories of the people who had drunk her coffee rushed into her mind—their claims of headaches vanishing, stomachaches dissipating. Even Asher had mentioned his fever subsiding after savoring the hot chocolate she had made.
‘Was it not a placebo effect, but because of my own abilities? Was I using magic without realizing it?’
April looked down blankly at her white hands as the question still lingered.
‘Still, why was Claude making such a commotion? What does he mean by putting him to sleep… Hiik!’
April instinctively covered her mouth.
Nonetheless, she couldn’t fully contain the unleashed scream, and it erupted in intermittent bursts, resembling the piercing screech of a boiling kettle, escaping from her lips. The three men’s gazes shifted toward her, but she was too engrossed in her own turmoil to acknowledge their gazes.
‘Is he saying I cured Claude’s insomnia? With just coffee…?’
Unbeknownst to her, she had done the same thing as in the original story. If this were true, Claude would try to recruit April.
Because…
‘…If this continues, Claude might go on a rampage.’
Despite grappling with chronic insomnia and deprived of restful sleep, his eyes remained clear and devoid of any signs of weariness.
This was solely attributed to his monstrous stamina.
However, an unforeseen consequence emerged as magical energy began accumulating within his body. If left unchecked, this surging magical energy could trigger a violent rampage, necessitating its regular purging. Thus, he frequented the temple to seek blessings even though it inadvertently exposed his vulnerability to the temple.
While it seemed improbable, Claude couldn’t dismiss the possibility of facing unreasonable demands from the temple. After all, should such a situation arise, he would find himself trapped between the inability to fulfill those demands and the reluctance to defy them.
‘It’s also dangerous if things go awry and he can’t receive the blessing.’
So, with April’s ability to lull him to sleep at any moment, her sudden appearance before him presented an opportunity too valuable to overlook.
It was the worst situation for her.
Nevertheless, she skillfully masked her surprise, careful not to show her knowledge. The original ‘April’ wasn’t privy to these facts, and fortunately, the three men didn’t find it peculiar that she was taken aback by the magic.
Instead, Claude asked the wizard.
“Do you know how many white wizards I’ve met so far? I’ve received healing magic from them, but it had no effect. But now, someone who hasn’t even learned magic has effective healing magic?”
“Isn’t it true that Your Excellency can resist even the strongest sleep-inducing scents? To have an effect on you, it cannot be achieved with ordinary skills. At the very least, the person should possess magical abilities comparable to Your Excellency’s.”
“The wizards I have encountered so far were also among the most prominent in the Empire.”
“There are very few white attribute wizards in number. Naturally, finding someone with skills comparable to yours, Your Excellency, would be even more challenging.”
“But how is it possible for such a talented individual to waste their abilities in a place like this countryside? Is this possible?”
It was within the realm of possibility. April’s parents had chosen to neglect her instead of nurturing her abilities, causing her talent to wither away. In fact, she could easily count on one hand the number of times she had laid eyes on her parents since possessing this body.
“That’s something I also…”
“Hhm.”
Lloyd’s interruption, signaled by a throat-clearing, brought both of them abruptly back to reality, making them realize what they had been talking about and causing an immediate silence to descend.
“Anyway, you’re saying that the young lady has a talent for magic, but she doesn’t know how to use it formally yet, right?”
He neatly summarized.
“Yes. If she hasn’t learned it before, that’s correct.”
April hastened to interject.
“That’s right, I never learned!”
“Then, it must not be that she was paid by someone to cast a spell in the master’s coffee.”
‘What does he mean?!’
April replied in astonishment.
“Of course not!”
Lloyd looked back at Claude and smiled.
“Well, now that the misunderstanding seems to be cleared up, please take a breath, Your Grace. The young lady is not accustomed to such situations, and it seems that the young master might be the same.”
Saying so, he glanced toward the kitchen. There, Asher was peeking half of his face from behind the wall as he trembled.
Only then did April realize that she, too, was shaking.
Claude seemed somewhat displeased, but he gathered himself and regained his momentum, and as he did so, his breathing became easier.
Lloyd smiled meaningfully.
“Now then, shall we begin the conversation in earnest?”

“You want me to work for the Winterville family?”
April summarized what she had just heard.
Lloyd’s proposal was straightforward: to become an employee of the Winterville family, and the task assigned to her was equally uncomplicated as all she needed to do was prepare a daily cup of coffee for Claude.
“Yes. His Grace suffers from chronic insomnia, and you are the only one who can cure him. That’s why I’m asking you to do this.”
On the surface, it was seemingly a simple task. She would become an exclusive barista of Duke Winterville, who could even make birds drop from the sky.
However, it wasn’t such a simple matter for April.
‘I could die like this…!’
Certainly, in contrast to the original story, she was no longer engaged to Zenon. In addition, she distanced herself from Zenon’s machinations, reducing the chances of her life being jeopardized.
However, despite her rational understanding, unease persisted in her heart.
What if, by some unfortunate turn of events, Zenon plotted against Claude, and Claude learned about her previous engagement to Zenon? What if suspicions arose between them? There was a possibility that Claude might kill her, just like in the original story.
So, there was only one way.
‘…I shouldn’t be involved with Claude at all.’
After she pondered for a while, she raised a question.
“How do you know for certain if it’s really my ability? It could be because of something else.”
“Then, we just have to prove it.”
