I Became the Villain's Master - Chapter 97
Chapter 97
“Success!”
I had narrowly saved myself from turning to ashes.
I barely suppressed a laugh and put on my best performance, acting like a terrified lamb facing the threat of death.
“P-please spare me.”
I trembled and made the most pitiful expression I could, which only seemed to worsen the expressions of the people around me. The Marquis of Kanilaen was so intimidating that even I, frankly, found him frightening.
“Tsk…!”
Jenny, realizing that the plan had failed, was about to bite her tongue, but-
“Lady!”
The situation ended abruptly. Ailt, who appeared out of nowhere, quickly subdued Jenny and knocked her unconscious with a blow to the back of her neck.
“Are you alright, lady?”
“What on earth is going on, Lady Rosette?”
[Mistress! You should be grateful that I went out of my way to fulfill your request.]
Helena looked around with her magic to ensure there were no further threats, and Snow returned to my side as a spirit.
“Our Marquis family always repays kindness. Yet, to have such a disgraceful incident occur…”
The Marquis of Kanilaen looked down at the unconscious Jenny with his icy blue eyes.
Then, he drew his sword. Judging by his demeanor, it seemed he was about to sever her head. So, I quickly put on a smile and spoke.
“I think we should interrogate her.”
Everyone seemed to think I was just trying to avoid being hurt. They might even think everything was planned.
‘I guess even good acting can backfire.’
Of course, it was right to interrogate her to uncover the mastermind, but the Marquis of Kanilaen seemed to have lost his reason to the point where he couldn’t even think of that.
Speaking of which, who wants to get rid of me? Let’s find out who’s behind this.
“We caught the spy.”
I raised the corners of my lips, receiving curious glances from everyone.
* * *
The Marquis’s residence has a secret basement.
Those who committed serious crimes or were caught acting as spies were not immediately beheaded, but were instead managed in this basement as prisoners.
The basement, devoid of even a single ray of light, vibrated with the incessant screams and the stench of blood.
Creak-
The iron gate opened, and someone entered with a single lantern.
His face, illuminated by the faint light, seemed out of place in the basement’s atmosphere.
Blood-red hair that seemed soaked in blood, and piercing emerald eyes.
“Are you awake now?”
Ailt Kanilaen, the heir to the Marquis of Kanilaen.
Ailt looked apathetically at the person who was bound and unable to move.
“Ugh!”
Jenny, her face in a miserable state, glared with bloodshot eyes at the soft voice.
Ailt slowly moved his lips with a cold expression.
“Do you know what you’ve done?”
Then, he let out a dry laugh.
“You dared to try and succeed? Did you think you could?”
“Ugh!”
Ailt grabbed her chin tightly and forced her to meet his eyes, sneering.
“You didn’t even tell me who was behind it. Even if I interrogated you, you wouldn’t talk… So what should I do?”
Ailt gritted his teeth.
He remembered how surprised he was when he received the letter from the Imperial Palace.
Ailt was in a good mood. He couldn’t help but feel indebted to Rosette, and now Helena had brought Rosette to the family.
The banquet was late, but he was eager to see Rosette.
However, a lot of time passed as he dealt with the knight dispatch issue from the Eckart Duchy.
After quickly finishing his work, Ailt rushed back to the family home and headed to the guest room, sensing an uneasy atmosphere.
And then…
“Should I just kill you?”
Swoosh-
Ailt drew his sword from its scabbard and held it to Jenny’s neck. Jenny trembled and shook her body, but she remained motionless.
“Haha…”
Ailt barely managed to control his anger and put his sword back in its scabbard.
“Right. This isn’t a problem to be solved emotionally. But I don’t know why I get so angry when I see you.”
Ailt, who had returned to his usual rational self, rubbed his forehead.
Wooong-
And then, he suddenly felt a flow of magic in front of him and quickly assumed a defensive stance.
‘Magic is supposed to be forbidden here.’
The Kanilaen family was under a spell that prevented anyone except those who were authorized from using magic.
However, judging by the fact that he had easily broken through that magic and reached the exact location of the basement…
‘No way.’
And his prediction was right.
“Tower Lord?”
Kiris, with his silver hair and crimson eyes, looked at Ailt coldly with an appearance that seemed too unrealistic to be of this world.
“Do you want to die?”
Then, without warning, he materialized his magic and aimed it at Ailt’s neck.
“…What kind of rudeness is this?”
“I heard the news. What are you doing now? The Kanilaen family can’t even catch a little rat like this. How disappointing.”
Ailt gulped. He had nothing more to say about that.
It was his own fault that he hadn’t caught the spy.
And under the immense pressure, he could barely breathe.
