I Became the Villain's Master - Chapter 95
Chapter 95
* * *
Helena let out a small cough in front of the office door. It seemed like ages since she had last visited the office, having left her family home at the young age of 12.
‘It hasn’t changed at all.’
Earlier, Helena had visited the room she used to occupy.
‘Nothing has changed.’
However, the dressing room was overflowing. It was filled not only with the dresses she wore as a child, but also with the latest fashionable gowns.
Helena closed her eyes for a moment and reminisced about the time before she ran away.
From the age of 8, Helena had been unconsciously using magic. The flowers in the garden would be trampled, and holes would appear out of nowhere.
Every time, the gardener, who found the garden in disarray after Helena had played, reported it to Marquis Kanilaen.
‘Strange things are happening around the young lady.’
At first, Marquis Kanilaen suspected an intruder and increased the number of guards.
However, the strange occurrences continued, and Marquis Kanilaen, just in case, tested Helena’s magical abilities.
‘An enormous amount of magical power. This much… she could even become a mage at the Magic Tower.’
Helena realized that she possessed far more magical power than ordinary people.
And so, she began to dream of becoming a mage…
But she faced opposition from her family.
‘Do you even know what you’re saying?’
A mage from a family that had produced generations of scholars?
Marquis Kanilaen strongly opposed it, and Helena began to secretly practice magic.
Magic was a continuous process of enlightenment.
True to her scholarly family’s nature, Helena chose and read magic books among countless others.
However, her transgression was soon discovered.
‘Lady Helena is not properly learning etiquette.’
At the etiquette teacher’s words, Marquis Kanilaen immediately placed her under surveillance and witnessed Helena practicing magic.
‘Stop it right now! Didn’t I tell you? A mage from our Marquis family!’
‘Father. I will become a mage. I will proudly become a member of the Magic Tower.’
Helena faced a difficult situation, and on the orders of the unyielding Marquis Kanilaen, all her magic books were burned.
But Helena’s passion was not extinguished.
‘I will learn magic.’
And so, at the age of 12, she left a short note and ran away. She headed straight for the Magic Tower and became a mage.
“Whew…”
Helena sighed softly, remembering the dressing room filled with Marquis’s affection.
Knock, knock.
“Father. It’s Helena.”
“Come in.”
A cold voice echoed from inside the room, and with those words, the door creaked open.
“Young lady. You’ve come?”
It was Oret, the butler who had served the Marquis family faithfully for many years.
“It’s been a long time.”
“Young lady…”
The wrinkled face of the butler, with its lush beard, creased into a warm smile.
“I have no regrets, even if I die now. For the young lady to return… I was so happy when I first heard that you had become a full-fledged mage at the Magic Tower…”
The teary-eyed butler continued with a slight smile.
“But you’ve really grown up a lot. This old butler can only be impressed.”
“Butler. I had no choice at the time. The family opposed it.”
“I understand, young lady.”
“Ahem, ahem.”
At the sound of a cough from behind, the butler bowed his head and politely ushered her in.
“It’s nothing to worry about. The master loves you more than anyone. Then, I shall take my leave.”
With a nod, the butler left the room, and the door closed behind Helena.
A heavy silence filled the office.
Marquis Kanilaen, who was sitting at his desk, silently stared at Helena.
“….”
As the suffocating silence continued, Helena fiddled with the hem of her robe.
“Father.”
“Yes, Helena.”
Marquis Kanilaen rose from his seat and embraced Helena.
“…Father?”
“You’ve returned. You’ve come back. Why are you only showing your face now?”
“I’m ashamed.”
“It’s alright. It’s alright. Sit down for now.”
After the brief embrace, the cold expression that had slightly broken returned.
Sitting in the seat that had been prepared for her at the Marquis invitation, Helena looked at her father.
She hadn’t seen him in a long time, but he looked the same as before.
What had changed was…
“I’m proud of you now.”
The way he looked at Helena had changed. Helena’s eyes widened.
“I was too narrow-minded back then. We are a family of scholars, but there’s no rule that says we can’t become mages, right?”
“…Yes, that’s right.”
“Right. When you left with just a note, I was so surprised. Even now, when I think about that time, my body trembles.”
“I’m doing well, Father. The Magic Tower accepted me.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Helena took a sip of tea and moistened her throat. As the familiar taste of black tea filled her senses, Helena felt a wave of nostalgia.
“The tea still tastes the same.”
“Yes, it does. The servants haven’t changed. But Helena, more than that…”
“Yes, Father.”
