Chapter 85

The time passed by in a blur.

Aria finally calmed down when her eyes, red from crying, began to swell.

With the handkerchief I handed her, she wiped away her tears.

Then, perhaps feeling a little embarrassed, she bowed her head slightly.

“Thank goodness. Really.”

“I was lucky. The Tower Lord saved me.”

At first, Aria thought I was a mage who had come as Kiris’ partner to the banquet.

That’s why I told her that I was just a random noble who had attended as a partner by chance and had nothing to do with the Magic Tower.

At first, Aria didn’t believe that I wasn’t a mage, but she didn’t find it strange that I was close to the Tower Lord.

‘Great!’

She only showed boundless trust, as one could tell from the writing in the original.

“Um, really?”

So Aria quickly accepted whatever I said, but she pouted her lips as if something was bothering her.

She seemed to be blaming herself for something…

Fidgeting with her fingers, Aria suddenly grabbed my hand and her eyes lit up.

“Rosette. I can’t bear to see you in danger. Would it be okay if the Eckart family assigned you guards? Or… would you just live with our family?”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Me, going to the Eckart ducal family!

Like when Snow first picked me, it seems like people keep wanting to take me away.

I wanted to refuse, saying that it was ridiculous, but I thought of Aria who had been crying earlier and spoke carefully.

“Aria.”

“Hmm? Did you decide? If it’s too much of a burden, how about staying until it’s safe?”

“That’s…”

I took a breath and continued.

“I don’t need guards. I was unlucky this time, and I already have guards.”

“But it’s still too dangerous.”

When Aria looked at me with a genuinely worried expression, I had no choice but to use Kiris’ name.

No, I don’t know why people around me are so eager to assign me guards.

At this rate, I won’t be able to go anywhere alone.

“Actually, I received a protective magic tool from the Tower Lord, so I can protect myself.”

“…Really?”

Aria, who had been brimming with anticipation, looked noticeably disappointed.

She lowered her already drooping eyes even further and muttered gloomily.

“Then there’s nothing I can do. The Tower Lord cares about Rosette. What a shame…”

I don’t know if it’s the heroine’s buff, but it’s really heartbreaking.

At the sight of her looking like she might collapse at any moment, I felt like I had done something terrible.

As I fidgeted and averted her gaze, I made eye contact with Ailt, who was staring at me.

That’s right, there was Ailt!

What am I thinking?

“Lady.”

Ailt’s emerald green eyes looked back and forth between Aria and me.

“Are you alright?”

As his intense gaze met mine, my skin tingled.

“Rosette. I have something to say.”

Just as I was about to greet Ailt, Aria immediately relaxed her expression and smiled brightly as if nothing had happened.

Naturally, I couldn’t help but turn my gaze to Aria.

“The Duke was going to come today, but he couldn’t because he was busy with work. I thought I should tell you.”

“Really?”

My eyes widened. I remember him looking at me with curious eyes at the banquet because I was Kiris’ partner, but I didn’t expect him to come to visit me here.

It’s a good thing he didn’t come.

If Duke Eckart, who has a lot of influence in the Empire, had come, I think I would have fainted from the pressure.

“Yeah, of course I told him not to come because you need to rest. The Duke will understand.”

As Aria said, I looked healthy on the outside, and I did feel like I had been reborn, but I was still struggling mentally.

Should I call it trauma?

The image of the monster wouldn’t leave my mind.

“Thank goodness…”

“But the Duke said he would help you whenever you need it.”

That was very kind of him. Although seems things are getting bigger and bigger…

There might be a time when I need help someday. I decided to think positively.

“But Rosette. I’m curious.”

Aria whispered to me in a low voice.

I was very nervous, but I was embarrassed by her next words and opened my mouth slightly.

“Were you acquainted with young lord Ailt?”

“Young lord Ailt, you say?”
