I Became the Villain's Master - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
The smoke scattered, and Louis’s face became visible. Could every mage do this kind of teleportation effortlessly?
I stared at Louis with sparkling eyes.
He clearly said he was going back to the Magic Tower, so why did he come looking for me? Before I could speak, Louis smiled widely and opened his mouth.
“Rosette! Long time, no see.”
“Nice to see you, Louis. I was actually planning to meet you. What brings you here?”
Louis, with his robe fluttering behind him, proudly spoke while patting his chest.
“Well, let me tell you. I’m a mage! I sensed the use of a magic spell around here and teleported here immediately.”
“Oh, if you’re talking about the magic spell, is this what you mean?”
I took out the used magical weapon from my pocket. Louis nodded as he looked at it and spoke.
“Yes! That’s right! It’s the emergency magical weapon that Helena stayed up for three nights to make. But if you used the weapon, it means something dangerous happened…”
“Oh, well…”
I explained what had happened, and Louis’ expression changed vividly as he listened. He turned pale, then brightened, and finally settled into a worried expression.
“Damn, did you see those lunatics? It seems that illegal slave traders still exist. Had the Magic Tower widen its territory, we could burn them all down!”
Louis muttered with regret, but then he sighed with relief, saying it was fortunate that I was safe.
Honestly, if I hadn’t met those mages, I would have been in danger. Sion would have been taken back to the slave market, and I would have become a slave myself. Just the thought of it was terrifying. It was clear that Helena was my benefactor.
“If it weren’t for this magical weapon, things would have taken a toll for the worst. Please thank Helena for me—and she said she would like to lend my novel; on second thought, I’d rather just give it to her.”
“Well… I will definitely do that. Helena should’ve been here today, so it’s a shame. She went back to the Magic Tower yesterday.”
“Really? But didn’t you say you were going back to the Magic Tower too?”
“Did I say that?”
As he caught my gaze, he scratched the back of his head sheepishly and added, “Uh, well, I have a feeling that the missing person might be in the capital. Usually, there are a lot of things to see in the capital, right? We’re having the founding day festival soon.”
He mentioned before that he was on a mission to find his lost superior, but it seemed there had been no progress yet. No wonder Louis looked more disheveled than a few days ago.
“I see, that could be the case.”
“Yes, I have no idea where he could be hiding. Even if he didn’t want to work, he left everything to me! He should have at least given me a clue… but there’s nothing. It’s really frustrating.”
Louis held his forehead as if it hurt just thinking about it.
“Oh, dear. Should I just beat him up when I meet him later? Honestly, even if the Magic Tower were to go on a rampage, I don’t care.”
Hearing Louis say that seriously made me feel really uncomfortable.
Louis looked up, as if something had suddenly occurred to him, and asked, “By the way, Rosette, why were the slave traders after you? Did you have any past grievances with them or something?”
“No, it’s not that…” I hesitated, unsure of how to phrase it. If I simply said that I had found a person injured on the street who turned out to be a slave, would he believe me? Despite being a mage, it was still an unexpected incident. So, I decided to summarize it instead.
“Well, there’s someone I recently met, and it seems that there was some animosity between that person and the slave traders.”
“Are you close to them?” Louis’s eyes widened, staring at me. I casually replied to his serious expression.
“Well, not really… We’ve only recently become acquainted.”
“Recently, huh?” Louis, who had been stroking his chin with a serious face, suddenly bombarded me with a series of questions.
“Can I meet that person?”
“Huh?”
“What does that person look like? Is their face deserving of insults if I were to see them?”
“….”
I blinked in surprise and found myself at a loss for words, but Louis slapped his forehead and muttered gloomily, “No, it can’t be. It must be my imagination! He died after all.”
Louis quickly stood up and pulled something out of his pocket, handing it to me.
“Ah, I’m sorry. I haven’t been sleeping well lately, so I must have gone crazy for a moment. Anyway! This is a communication device. If you say my name or Helena’s name, it will connect.”
“A communication device?” I nervously accepted the device with trembling hands. The only communication devices I knew were used by wealthy nobles who could afford to hire magi and infuse them with magic power. But a sound-activated communication device? That’s unheard of. Read ahead here.
