I Became the Villain's Master - Chapter 139
Chapter 139
“Charge! Seize the traitor who has rebelled against the Empire!”
The Imperial soldiers stormed the Duke of Eckart’s territory, clashing with the Eckart knights.
Clang— Thwack—
The sounds of clashing steel filled the air as the mages of the magic tower joined the fray, escalating the already fierce battle.
“The Imperial Palace has been seized by a demon! We are the last hope!” The Eckart knights roared, their cries met by the war cries of the advancing Imperial knights.
While the Eckart family held their fortress, I infiltrated the palace with Kiris and Helena. Cedric hadn’t joined the main force and remained in the palace, presenting a chance to destroy the Demon King.
[Mistress! I sense demonic magic towards the main palace!]’
“This way.” Following the direction indicated by Snow’s wagging tail, I led Kiris forward. He nodded, cloaking us with his magic. Helena kept a watchful eye on our surroundings.
[Because he wields the demon’s power imperfectly, many sacrifices are required.]
According to Snow, it was impossible for a human to fully embrace the power of an Demon King. Even if they accepted it, their soul would be tainted, their will soon overtaken by the Demon King.
The main palace was eerily quiet, unlike the bustling heart of the Empire it should have been. The chandeliers were extinguished, the usual vibrant atmosphere replaced by a gloomy, oppressive stillness. It felt desolate, devoid of life.
“It seems the Demon King is absorbing souls.”
Helena’s words heightened my anxiety as I scanned our surroundings. Distant screams of agony reached my ears. Scattered corpses lay about, their faces blackened as if burned. They looked just like the servant who had died during the Holy Festival.
“We must hurry. We have to stop the demon.” Kiris and Helena nodded at my urgency, and we pressed on toward the palace’s core.
Tendrils of dark magic reached out but strangely dissipated before they could touch me. Kiris and Helena remained unaffected.
‘Is this divine power?’
Just as Moreus had said, my divine power was different.
“Well, well, look who we have here.” The doors burst open, revealing Cedric, his eyes pitch black, radiating dark energy.
“Mistress, behind me.” Kiris took my hand, his touch a reassurance.
“I’m alright.”
“You’re trembling.” His words drew my gaze to my hand, where a slight tremor was indeed present.
‘I’m nervous.’
It was understandable, given the hostile demonic presence so close. Fear gnawed at me, making me shake like a leaf. The Demon King, an ancient entity of immense power, was about to be resurrected.
Cedric’s face contorted into a grotesque expression, inhuman and terrifying.
“Your… Your Majesty! Gasp…”
Beside him, figures I recognized as servants writhed in agony, their souls being devoured by the demon. The demonic power intensified with each passing moment. My skin prickled with the palpable surge of dark energy.
[We must stop him now, Mistress!]
Snow’s urgent message echoed in my mind.
“Lady Rosette, shouldn’t we intervene? I will protect you.” Helena’s face was pale. Kiris, though seemingly composed, frowned deeply.
“I’ll go.” He immediately unleashed a torrent of fire magic towards Cedric.
Fwoosh— The magic coalesced into a blazing sphere, hurtling towards Cedric with devastating force. But with a casual wave of his hand, Cedric effortlessly dispelled the powerful spell, scattering its energy into the air.
“Kiris, I despise the Magic Tower and the Temple.” A sneer twisted Cedric’s lips as he took a step closer. “They only care for the Emperor’s favor, clinging to the palace to maintain their power. I find it disgusting.”
“Cedric, what is the meaning of this?”
“My sister was their sacrificial lamb.” A fleeting expression of grief crossed Cedric’s face. “But it doesn’t matter anymore. Soon, only Imperial power will remain, and the Demon King will rule!”
He threw his arms wide, erupting into a fit of maniacal laughter. The crazed sounds subsided, leaving Cedric with an emotionless mask.
“The Demon King commands me. He says to kill you and bring about world peace myself!”
Helena’s supportive magic spells were consistently blocked by Cedric. I stepped forward, channeling divine power through my hands. “Your Majesty, you are being controlled by a demon.”
“So what if I am? This is the path I’ve chosen. The Demon King promised to resurrect my sister.”
