Chapter 261

Saruvia pulled out a sharp dagger from within her cloak.
The words she had spoken, their meaning still unclear, lingered in her ears, but there was no time to ponder their significance.
‘Is she really going to kill me?’
The intent to kill shone in Saruvia’s eyes. Sera had to run.
‘But how?’
Her opponent was a renowned mage, and she couldn’t use even the simplest of spells.
The flames blocked all paths of escape.
Then, her eyes caught sight of a decorative sword that had fallen to the ground. It might be a futile attempt, but she had nothing to lose.
Saruvia, holding Sera’s body with one hand, raised the dagger high into the air.
As the sharp blade gleamed in the light, Sera pushed Saruvia away with both hands.
Taken aback by her sudden defiance, Saruvia staggered backward. Seizing the moment of her surprise, Sera ran towards where the sword lay.
“How dare you!”
As she bent down to grab the hilt, Saruvia, who had followed her, grabbed her shoulder forcefully.
“Agh!”
His sharp nails dug painfully into her skin. The force pushing her down to the ground caused Sera to fall face-first.
A dull pain shot up her knees as they hit the hard floor.
“Unfortunately, you need to die here as an obstacle!”
Sera clenched her teeth. Just as the dagger was about to plunge towards her throat, she managed to grab the sword and turn over with all her might, narrowly avoiding the attack.
“You dare to block it?”
“Haah. Haah.”
Sera gasped for air. Along with the sharp pain, blood dripped down the blade.
Sera held the hilt and blade of the sword in her bare hands.
“Huh?”
Saruvia laughed, as if surprised by Sera’s defense.
The look on his face was one of disbelief that his dagger had been blocked by the long sword Sera held.
‘It’s hard to keep up… If this goes on…’
Sera’s hands and arms trembled violently.
Though she had managed to fend off Saruvia’s attack once, there was no guarantee she could do it again.
“I don’t understand why you’re trying to kill me, but it’s unbecoming of someone who uses magic. There must be an easier way.”
Lips quivering, Sera glared at Saruvia, who was now atop her.
“People who are immune to curses must be killed the old-fashioned way.”
With a bitter laugh, Saruvia spoke, and Sera kicked her hard in the stomach.
“Ugh.”
A short groan escaped, and Saruvia fell beside Sera. As she tried to get up, her leg was grabbed.
“Let go! Let me go!”
Sera struggled against the grip on her ankle.
Saruvia climbed on top of her again, determined not to let her escape this time, and kicked away the sword lying around to prevent further resistance. Then, she lifted the dagger up high.
Underneath the seething killing intent in her gaze, Saruvia’s eyes glinted blood-red.
“It’s no fun if you resist too much. Let’s end this now, Sera.”
As she pinned Sera down with her thighs, Saruvia gripped the dagger with both hands.
The blade, which had been aimed high at the ceiling, plummeted towards Sera’s heart at high speed.
‘No!’
Sera closed her eyes tightly. Hot tears streamed down her face.
And at that moment.
Sera’s body began to shine brightly.
“Sera!”
At Helios’s shout, Sera opened her eyes.
Turning her head, she saw Helios, wrapped in golden divine power, standing in the distance.
“Y…Your Majesty!”
Her voice choked with sobs, she barely called out to him.
As Helios approached, the flames died down, and she felt as if her body was being cleansed by divine power, making it easier to breathe.
“No…!”
Saruvia muttered to herself in dismay. It was then that she swung the dagger down once more.
“Sera!”
Helios, having spotted Saruvia, cried out Sera’s name. Desperation was evident in his eyes.
Sera knew.
It was too late for Helios to reach her.
“Bind her! Quickly!”
Helios’s shout rang out to the knights.
But it was clear it would be futile.
‘It’s too late…’
Sera closed her eyes in resignation as she saw the blade coming down.
Hoping it wouldn’t hurt too much, that the pain would be brief, if possible.
And at that moment, just as the blade was about to slice through Sera’s body, bright light began to emanate from her body once again.
Simultaneously, black substance started to be drawn out of Saruvia’s body, being absorbed into Sera’s.
Clatter—!
In the end, Saruvia dropped the dagger she was holding.
She reflexively stepped back from Sera to protect herself, looking at Sera with a face gone pale.
Mages, priests, and knights who had arrived surrounded the staggering Saruvia, bewildered by what had happened.
The mages bound Saruvia with ropes made of various lights as they chanted their spells, and the priests created a barrier around Saruvia using divine power.
The tips of the knights’ swords all pointed towards Saruvia.
“Huu… ugh.”
“Sera, are you okay?”
Helios immediately supported Sera as he approached.
His tired face, looking at the gasping Sera, mixed relief, worry, and an indescribable anger.
“Your Majes— Ah!”
As Sera tried to stand with Helios’s support, she suddenly groaned in pain as a surge hit her.
The pain started from the tips of her fingers.
“Your Majesty, wait…! I…”
Helios’s eyes widened upon noticing the strange glow in Sera’s eyes.
Sera suddenly collapsed, falling to the ground.
“Se…Sera?”
