Chapter 260

Araella, despite coughing from the smoke, shouted at Helios with eyes gleaming.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Helios released his divine power.
The golden light spreading from his fingertips quickly enveloped the surroundings, starting to suppress the flames.
“Ah! It’s working!”
Araella and Jean exclaimed as they watched the flames being subdued.
The knights and mages also shouted, having found a solution.
“Jean, quickly go and gather the priests. No, everyone who can use divine power. And gather as many mages and knights as possible to surround the palace.”
Helios, with a bit more life in his eyes, urgently commanded.
“And you?”
Anticipating what Helios was about to do, Jean looked at him anxiously.
“I have to find Sera.”
As expected, that answer came, and Jean rubbed his eyes with his fingers.
It seemed unlikely that Helios would change his stubbornness, no matter how much Jean pleaded.
Thanks to Helios’s divine power, it became easier to breathe, and he briefly sighed before shouting to the knights behind him.
“Except for me, everyone is to escort His Majesty. Ensure His Majesty’s safety until we call the priests from outside!”
Upon Jean’s shout, his subordinate knights moved to protect Helios as if forming a formation around him.
With the flames extinguished, the knights’ movements became much smoother.
“There should be no trouble. Your Majesty.”
With a worried glance, Jean bowed to Helios.
As Jean ran out, Helios also started to move forward without looking back.
As he began to emit divine power in earnest, the path he took extinguished flames as if the sea was parting.
“Find Sera Popo!”
Helios commanded loudly.

Sera could not grasp what was happening. The flames intensified, causing her eyes to hurt and the coughing to persist.
Even in the chaotic situation, Sera felt the flames were not as hot as she had thought.
Trapped between columns of fire taller than herself, she didn’t even sweat, let alone feel hot.
At first, she doubted it was a hallucination. However, the screams of people passing by and the sight of people on fire were vivid.
“Why is Your Grace here….”
Abandoning vain hope, Sera saw Saruvia standing in front of her.
The flame-like fluttering of his red hair in the still air was eerily bizarre.
Instinctive fear raised goosebumps on her exposed arms. She wanted to run, but she was surrounded by columns of fire.
“Miss Popo. You shouldn’t go that way. It’s dangerous.”
Despite the surrounding flames, Saruvia’s voice was soothing, as if he was not in a hurry at all.
As if suggesting his location was the safe side, Saruvia even gestured with his hand.
“No. No, Duke. The exit is the other way.”
Sera shook her head, trying to grasp the situation.
Glancing back, hoping to find a way out if only she could block the encircling flames, Saruvia spoke as if he had read her thoughts.
“Are you thinking of running away?”
“Running away?”
“Sera Popo.”
Saruvia slowly walked towards her, narrowing the gap between them.
Even in her distressed state, Sera could fully understand that the situation with Saruvia was not normal, and that he was threatening her.
Sera stepped back, but the flames prevented her from retreating further.
“Duke, d… don’t come any closer. What are you doing?”
As Sera protested with a trembling voice, Saruvia reached for her neck.
Before she could scream in terror, the jewelry around her neck snapped and fell.
Thick pearls rolled among discarded decorative swords and masks.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Sera Popo.”
As Saruvia’s long fingers approached her face, Sera clenched her eyes shut.
His fingertips glided down her chin, and then, with a rustle, removed her veil.
Sera opened her eyes to watch her headpiece and the fluttering veil being consumed by the flames.
Whoosh—!
The flames surged, and the golden jewelry turned dark like coal and began to melt.
Just because it didn’t feel hot didn’t mean it wasn’t real fire.
Tense, Sera swallowed, feeling as if she herself was melting like the jewelry.
“I am going to kill you, but it’s not because I hate you.”
As Saruvia spoke, Sera turned her gaze towards her, clutching her fearfully throbbing heart.
For a long moment, she looked into Saruvia’s face, drawn into those flashing blue eyes within the red, until Sera suddenly remembered the red-eyed snake she had seen at the palace.
“So, it was you, Duke. The snake at the palace that time.”
Mumbling unconsciously, the duke laughed.
“The Duke… Oh yes, indeed. Though in body.”
