Embracing a lover was sweet, and they could do it without realizing how time flew by.
Helios and Sera had shared their warmth for a long time, exchanging conversations. They only noticed how late it had become when they finally realized it.
They were on their way to where the carriage was parked. It was possible thanks to a knight who, upon realizing that no one had come to pick them up despite waiting for a while, had inquired if something had happened.
How surprised they must have been when the knight suddenly called out, “Your Majesty.”
Fortunately, they hadn’t seen the two of them hugging, but when they heard the knight’s voice, Sera was so startled that she almost pushed Helios to the ground. She was even more flustered than Helios himself.
“Your Majesty, how long did the knight say he had been waiting earlier?”
Walking on the familiar path of the palace after a long time, Sera asked.
Helios, who was matching his stride with hers, smiled and replied,
“How long do you think it’s been?”
“Umm… about thirty minutes?”
A soft laugh dispersed into the night air.
“It’s longer than that.”
“Then, an hour?”
Once again, Helios shook his head, admitting he was wrong.
Sera looked up at him with a worried expression, not knowing how long they had actually been there.
“Did we stay for a really long time?”
Instead of speaking, Helios extended three fingers to indicate the time they had spent together.
“Three hours…?”
“Yes, three hours.”
“That’s why the knight must have… come. Three hours.”
Sera murmured with a slightly disgruntled face, realizing that ‘a bit longer’ had turned out to be that much longer.
Observing Sera’s face in silence, Helios tilted his head slightly.
“Did you dislike it by any chance?”
Helios genuinely seemed concerned about whether she didn’t like it. But how could she? If she did, there’s no way they would have held each other for three hours.
Sera blushed, feeling embarrassed that she had been standing like that with him for such a long time. It was quite a special moment.
Although she had been in similar situations where she was so close to him, a real, proper embrace like this was a first.
The sound of his heartbeats from his sturdy chest.
The pleasant scent emanated from him. His touch. Everything was so perfect, as if she wanted to experience it all over again.
She slowly extracted each of those feelings from that moment and answered in a very soft voice.
“Of course I couldn’t hate it, Your Majesty.”
Helios understood that it was an affirmative response and laughed out loud. With his arms crossed, he leaned slightly toward Sera.
Why? What’s he trying to say?
Sera looked at him with a guarded expression, and Helios, leaving behind a gentle word, distanced himself.
“I’m glad. We’ll do it more often in the future.”
With a face flushed red, Sera looked at Helios, who acted as if nothing had happened.
At that moment, a conversation she had overheard between Rosé, Ferre, and someone else passed through her mind like a fleeting breeze.
“Dad always kisses and hugs Mom.”
“Really?”
“When Mom was Heli Hyung’s age, Mom said Dad was being too clingy, but that just made Dad bother her with loooots more kisses.”
“What? What are you suddenly talking about? Your Highnesses, please focus on the textbooks.”
“Tch. I tried to distract Sera from studying, but it didn’t work.”
Children often inherit their parents’ behaviors, so was Helios like that too?
Sera contemplated this for a moment and recalled a time at the palace when ice cream had gotten on her face.
It seemed plausible.
Trying to erase some rather indecent thoughts, Sera fanned her face with her hand and turned her head away from him.
Just then, the carriage she had been waiting for appeared.
“It’s time for me to go now.”
With a somewhat regretful gaze, Sera and Helios looked at each other. Helios, with a slightly tense smile, asked,
“Are you busy tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow? I don’t have anything special planned…”
“In that case, come visit Rosé and Ferre with me tomorrow. My little siblings will be delighted.”
Sera understood very well that he intended to make plans for their next meeting.
However, thinking back to his teasing and nonchalant demeanor earlier, she mumbled without thinking,
“If I’m visiting only Their Highnesses, it’s a bit of a shame… There’s someone else I miss, too, so…”
“Oh…”
Helios slowly seemed to gauge the meaning of Sera’s words, then buried his face in one hand.
His ears turned as red as hers were just moments ago, and he didn’t seem as shameless as he had been earlier.
“Miss Popo, you can’t do this to me.”
“Why not? Your Majesty, you were teasing me just a moment ago too.”
Helios, sweetly defeated by Sera’s attack, couldn’t hold back his smile as he looked up at Sera.
If there were no other people around, they could have stayed in each other’s arms.
The situation was frustrating, but it couldn’t be helped.
“See you tomorrow, Your Majesty.”
In high spirits, Sera smiled and boarded the carriage to depart.
Helios, feeling reluctant to just let her go, signaled to the coachman to wait for a moment.
He hastily squeezed himself halfway into the carriage.
Sera seemed to understand why he had come and smiled shyly.
“I have to go now…”
“I know. I have to send you off.”
“But why did you come? Just to see my face one last time?”
“That’s one reason…”
Helios reached out and pulled back the curtains of the carriage, revealing the deep navy curtains.
“I thought it would be okay to do this.”
Sera seemed slightly surprised, not realizing his intentions, and tilted her head with a somewhat puzzled expression.
Seizing the opportunity while Sera was off guard, Helios left a light kiss on her forehead.
“Your Majesty!”
“See you tomorrow.”
After closing the carriage door, Helios signaled to the coachman that it was time to leave.
He saw Sera’s hand gripping the curtain, and a satisfied smile crept onto his face.
