Chapter 214

Raphael waited for a long time, but as there came no response, he quietly called Helios.
“Your Majesty?”
“Right, yes… That’s good.”
Helios briefly answered without looking at Raphael.
‘Something must have happened between the both of them at the Imperial Villa.’
It was a vague guess, but Raphael was convinced that something happened between them.
After coming back from the imperial villa, something in Helios changed to the point that he had a strangely sharp atmosphere these days.
Of course, such a change made it possible for state affairs to run more smoothly because the nobles were so intimidated by him. However, it was a problem because Helios was not at all himself.
“Is everything alright with Miss Popo?”
As his gaze was still affixed upon the documents in his hands, Helios asked in a calm voice.
Despite being visibly in discomfort each and every time Sera was mentioned to him, Helios himself often brought up the woman in question.
Worried about any attacks coming her way in connection to the unsavory incident at the imperial villa, he asked about her wellbeing many times.
And to that effect, it was a question that came every single day throughout the whole month.
“Things are still the same. There doesn’t seem to be any unpleasant things happening to her. The mages also say that they haven’t found any new information yet.”
Raphael answered in the same manner as before.
Already expecting the answer, Helios shook his head.
While the mood in the room wasn’t bright, it was still peaceful enough. However, the atmosphere was soon broken by the words that came next.
“Isn’t Miss Sera in a pinch these days? I read something about her in an article today…”
Jean was just listening to the conversation of the two other men in the room until now, but at this point, he joined in on the discussion with a bit of a frustrated tone.
Already having a rough idea of what Jean was about to bring up, Raphael shot a glare at the knight, wordlessly warning him to be quiet.
However, being as tactless as he was, Jean couldn’t possibly gain some sense out of the blue.
“Since the banquet, there hasn’t been just one or two noblemen who started getting interested in Miss Sera. Well, I’ve been thinking about it too for a long time now, but Miss Sera is actually quite pretty and nice…”
Leaving the hopeless Jean alone in his chatter, Raphael furtively examined Helios’s reaction.
As expected, Helios had set down his pen. He was now fully attuned to what Jean was saying.
Even though it was clear that the atmosphere inside the room had turned unusual, Jean was firmly blind to this as he continued speaking.
“There’s definitely a long line of young noblemen for her. Miss Sera’s currently in the process of establishing her school, too, and dozens upon dozens of letters are pouring in to support her.”
Helios’s expression gradually hardened.
Instinctively, Raphael knew that it was time for Jean to shut up. Those violet eyes were starting to glint coldly.
“Jean, I don’t think that’s something Heli wants to hear all that much—”
Raphael urgently tried to stop Jean by hurriedly whispering at the knight, but Helios unexpectedly intervened.
Exuding a glacier-like energy that was beyond cold, Helios looked at Raphael with an exceedingly icy gaze.
“When did I ever say that I don’t want to hear it, Raphael? Go on, Jean. I’m listening.”
At this point, it was a sin to be an idiot.
Nevertheless, Jean continued to be unaware of Helios’s change in mood. He was just happy that Helios was taking his side.
“See, Raphael? Heli says he’s curious, too.”
Alright, well. Let’s see how you’ll handle this.
Raphael inwardly gritted his teeth, but there was nothing he could do.
He just wanted to close his eyes and hope for the best—that Jean would at least talk about this matter moderately.
“Miss Sera also refused to meet them all every time because she knew that those young noblemen were asking her out on a date under the pretext of sponsoring her school. But you know, this time, she agreed to meet one man.”
“Who was it.”
“Count Peters. The young and handsome Richard Peters who just recently took on the title of count. From what I read in the article today, he likes Sera a lot, so he went around asking quite a few people if they could connect him with her. I heard he went to get tickets to an opera that Miss Sera likes?”
“Opera?”
Helios replied harshly as he heard something that he didn’t know. However, being as clueless as he was, Jean nodded anyway.
“If just the two of them are going to see the opera this weekend, isn’t that no different than a date? Hey, Heli, if I knew this would happen, maybe I should have tried asking out Miss Sera, too? I already knew that Miss Sera likes going to the opera.”
Now, Raphael was very well aware that things had truly become serious.
Jean continued to have that silly little smile on his face, but Helios was not amused. Oh, at all.
The identity of that sharp coldness in his eyes could only be…
‘Jealousy.’
This alone led to Raphael’s grave realization. It now made sense why Helios was acting so strangely as of late whenever Miss Sera was mentioned.
Still, despite the clarity he was given, Raphael’s chest became even heavier.
‘If towards Miss Sera, Heli really…’
Helios quietly rose from his seat.
As he was wearing unkempt clothes, the corners of his lips curved up into an unusual smile. With this smirk, he whispered quietly to the two other men in the room.
“It slipped my mind, but Rosé and Ferre did tell me that they wanted to see an opera. It would be nice to go see it this weekend. And besides, it’s been a while since my younger siblings had met Miss Popo, so it would be best to see the opera on the same date just in case we can meet by chance.”
In other words, he was ordering Raphael to prepare tickets to the opera on the same day that Sera would be there.
After saying this, Helios exited the office with rather rough steps.
Left behind, Raphael couldn’t endure the anger he was feeling at Jean.
He glared at the tactless knight.
“Uh, what’s the matter, Raphael?”
Raphael clenched his hands into fists, thinking about whether he should really kick the guy on the shin.
“You really don’t know?”
“Huh?”
“Heli is…”
Raphael clenched his teeth together. He didn’t want to admit it out loud.
As Jean stared at Raphael, he frowned with a serious expression.
“You know, there’s something I’ve been suspecting.”
“What.”
“I’ve been wondering if Heli likes Sera a little bit. But since he hasn’t been bringing her up these days, I kind of feel like I just misunderstood. I guess.”
Thwack!
Unable to contain his frustration any longer, Raphael really went ahead and kicked Jean’s shin.
And it must have hurt a lot because Raphael kicked with all his might. Jean was left hopping on one leg as he hugged the other, groaning.
“Hey! That hurts so bad, Raphael!”
“You deserve to be kicked.”
But even after hitting the guy once, Raphael’s sour mood didn’t lighten at all.
And this was because the thing that he didn’t want to happen… actually happened.
