Chapter 212

Sera could hear the knights around them snickering even as their heads were turned. They surely knew what these novels were about.
“Then, would you like to take these as well?”
Helios spoke to her as she still couldn’t lift her face in embarrassment.
And here, she looked up in surprise. However, she was met with his mischievous eyes that seemed to be teasing her.
Sera soon opened her lips, relieved that he wasn’t angry.
“I truly apologize, Your Majesty. This isn’t something that your eyes should have laid upon.”
“It’s fine. Things happen.”
Helios nodded as though it wasn’t a big deal.
“It’s alright, so come and take these novels as well.”
Sera thanked him and quickly took the two novels on the table and hugged them with her arms as well.
When Sera took all the books that she needed to hide, Rosé and Ferre jumped next to her and tried to take the books from her. They couldn’t understand why they’re being taken away.
“Sera! Me and Ferre wanted to read that, so why are you taking it!”
“Sera! Can you give those books to me and Rosé? The cover’s pretty.”
“Y…You can’t.”
“Whyyy!”
“That’s not fair, Sera!”
“It’s just, well, um. You can only read these books once you’ve grown up.”
Sera glanced at Helios and tried to send a wordless signal to him, and he responded by bringing the twins back to his side.
Sera left for a moment to hide away the books, and once she returned, she found Rosé and Ferre sitting down, munching diligently on a few cookies. Helios somehow calmed down his younger siblings.
“I’m very sorry.”
Sera once again apologized, pulling a chair back so she could sit on it.
“It’s alright. The two of them didn’t read any of the contents.”
“That truly makes me feel relieved. Those books had no illustrations either—”
Overcome by relief, Sera didn’t realize what she was saying. She quickly stopped herself from saying anything more, but it’s impossible to take back what she had already said.
Helios pretended that it was nothing, but his lips were slightly curved.
“Yes. Of course.”
Looking into Helios’s sparkling violet eyes, this time, it seemed like he was smiling heartily.
It felt as if he was trying to interact with her as if nothing had happened between them, but on their way back to the capital in the carriage, the smile he gave her hardly reached his eyes.
She refrained from talking to him, and he also refrained from talking to her.
So it wasn’t just her imagination that he had been staring out the window because he was deliberately avoiding her.
Recalling the heavy silence during their carriage ride, Sera looked up with an ambiguous expression.
“Won’t it be great if Sera and Hyung gets married?”
While still munching on cookies, Ferre suddenly said those words. Sera felt her throat closing up.
“Yeah, I think so, too.”
Rosé nodded vigorously.
Sera’s thoughts were still terribly heavy because of what happened yesterday, so what the twins were saying now weighed even more heavily on her.
Children oftentimes didn’t know how sharp their words were. Sera lowered her voice and quickly whispered to them.
“Your Highnesses… That is disrespectful to His Majesty.”
“Whyyyy. That’s just what me and Ferre think… Sera and Oppa can just get married, but do you hate that?”
“Yeah, yeah. It’s nice if we can see Sera everyday because you’ll start living in the palace after marrying Hyung.”
Rosé and Ferre both shrugged casually as if it was something normal.
Troubled, Sera hesitated and glanced at Helios furtively.
He was drinking tea calmly, and his head was slightly bowed down so his expression was difficult to see. Nevertheless, he didn’t look too happy about this.
Sera hastily spoke again, somehow feeling that this was her fault.
“You… You shouldn’t say something like that, Your Highnesses.”
As she finished speaking, she moved away from Rosé and Ferre, but—tak—Helios set down his teacup.
Sera could sense a slight hint of irritation on his disposition, tempered by him already so most of it was hidden.
Right now, he looked like he was offended by what the twins said.
‘I didn’t think you’d show such a reaction. Have I been wrong about you all this time?’
Sera smiled awkwardly, feeling a slight pang in her heart.
Fortunately, Jean came inside right on time, and there was no need to continue the conversation.
“I believe it’s time to go now, Your Majesty.”
Rosé and Ferre grabbed Sera’s skirt, looking up at her with sad faces.
But this time, Sera had no choice but to send them away.
She crouched down and looked straight into their eyes. Rosé and Ferre were both pouting heavily, cheeks covered with cookie crumbs.
“Can’t we stay until the rain stops?” asked Ferre.
“I wanna stay a little longer with Sera. Please?” said Rosé with puppy dog eyes.
However, Sera shook her head slowly as she wiped the crumbs from their cheeks and lips.
“You have to go now. It’s late.”
Her low voice was tender with even more love than what could be heard before.
Helios walked behind the children and placed a hand each on their shoulders. The preparations to leave had already been finished.
“Sera…”
Whispering her name ever so carefully, as if just a single gust of wind would blow her away, Rosé and Ferre slowly embraced her.
Sera opened her arms and hugged the small children tightly.
“I was so happy with you, Sera.”
Rosé expressed her gratitude, tickling Sera’s cheek with her long silver hair.
“Sera will always be my and Rosé’s teacher.”
Ferre snuggled deeper into her embrace, puffing his cheeks.
The twins, struggling to speak without letting their tears break out, brought their round foreheads to Sera’s.
All choked up with emotions, Sera could feel her chest getting heavier and heavier.
“I as well, Your Highnesses. It was such a pleasure to be your teacher, and I wouldn’t exchange the time we had together for anything at all.”
After sharing that warm embrace for a long time, Rosé and Ferre slowly moved away from her.
All three of them had become like red rabbits, but everyone tried their hardest not to cry.
Helios gave his brief goodbyes to Sera, then he and his younger siblings climbed into their carriage.
Beneath the dark, raining sky, Sera waved goodbye for a very long time.
