Chapter 208

As she was about to set down the presents that she had received from the children, Sera carefully held the two national treasures in her hands, treating the gems as though they were newborn babies.
At the end of the day, it was Helios who should be in charge of these.
So, she smiled awkwardly as she faced Helios, who seemed to be feeling the same way.
“Oppa, why are you standing so far away?”
“Hyung, Sera is leaving. Don’t you have a present for her?”
“Ah.”
Faced with his younger siblings’ disapproval, Helios rubbed the back of his neck.
As if they couldn’t fathom his actions, the children continued to nag him.
“Hyung, didn’t you prepare a letter for Sera?”
“Oppa, you’re so mean. Sera’s going to be disappointed in you.”
“You gotta prepare lots and lots of gifts like us so that Sera can remember you for a long time.”
“Yeah. We should have called Oppa when we wrote our letters. Right, Ferre?”
“That’s right, I should have done that. It’s my fault,” Helios replied.
Helios replied in a serious manner, though it was likely half-jokingly.
As if to answer what happened a while ago, Sera tried to gauge Helios’s demeanor.
“Their Highnesses gave me these.”
She held out the gemstones in her hands.
A gentle, but not completely comfortable smile headed towards Sera, and he looked at what she was holding out.
He stared blankly for a moment, as if his mind was elsewhere, but he soon answered a beat later.
“Ah. Those gems.”
Normally, he would have smiled and said, ‘My younger siblings have played another prank,’ or ‘I apologize about this.’ However, he said nothing of the sort.
“From what you must have heard just now, Their Highnesses brought these from the Imperial Palace, saying that they’re giving these to me as gifts. However, I humbly ask Your Majesty to take these and bring them back to where they belong.”
“…Yes, I’ll do that.”
Sera once again held out the gemstones to Helios, hoping that he’d take them right away.
As such, Helios reached forward. He tried to take the two gemstones as gingerly as possible, but it was inevitable that their hands brushed against each other.
Perhaps uncomfortable, Sera’s eyes turned to the floor.
Helios watched as Sera deliberately avoided eye contact with him for a long time, even after the gemstones had already been returned to him.

There were some boxes next to the big cake that Rosé and Ferre had prepared, and as they opened one particular box, the twins inadvertently blinked at what’s inside.
Everything was perfect, but most of all, what attracted their attention were a couple of very small, bird-shaped brooches.
“Woooow! What’s this!”
The children shouted, getting up from their seats immediately. They couldn’t contain their excitement.
Helios soon held onto the two children so that they wouldn’t lose their balance and fall.
“I shall explain it to you once again, but this is something like a talking letter. After you tell it what you want to say, kiss the bird, then it will fly and come to me. I can listen to what Your Highnesses have said.”
“That’s so cool!”
“That’s right. It’s a popular magic tool these days.”
She had mulled over what could be a faster substitute to just snail mail, and she came across this newfound magic tool in the shape of a bird that could send messages.
She bought it for the children, who were still not very used to writing letters. Seeing that they were pleased by the present, Sera was satisfied.
“Then, can I send messages to Sera anytime? With this?”
“Of course. It’s better to use it when you have to send urgent messages because it’ll fly quickly anytime and anywhere. Isn’t it?”
“Yeah! When we really need it!”
Rosé and Ferre nodded.
Sera put one brooch each on the left side of the children’s chests.
They stared at the shiny white bird-shaped brooches with sparkling eyes, then they showed off their chests.
“Hyung, look, look. Sera’s present to us.”
“Oppa, you’re jealous, right?”
With playful smirks, Rosé and Ferre bragged to Helios.
“Yes, I’m jealous.”
Helios responded in a gentle voice.
As soon as the gift giving time was over, food was served as soon as the children were seated.
Sera and Helios talked to Rosé and Ferre from time to time.
Of course, the two of them avoided eye contact with each other, feeling awkward.
Then, as it was time to eat dessert, the melon cake that Rosé and Ferre made together were brought out. The two adults couldn’t taste it and just ate mechanically.
Rosé was the first to notice the awkward tension between them and soon pointed it out.
“Did something happen between the two of you?”
Bringing everyone’s attention to the elephant in the room, Rosé spoke with a fork in her mouth.
“No. Nothing happened.”
Fearing that Rosé would notice further, Sera answered quickly.
However, considering that Rosé had an unusually sharp sense for this kind of thing, the little girl frowned at Sera as she had answered quickly. She’s being weird.
“Really? Then, what did you do?”
“What do you mean?”
When Sera asked back, Rosé beckoned her to come closer so she could whisper into her ear.
Then, lowering her voice, Rosé cupped her hands over Sera’s ear and said,
“We even gave Sera and Oppa time alone for a date.”
“Pardon me?”
“So, did you go on a date?”
Ah, by any chance, did they send His Majesty to her with this purpose in mind?
Realizing Rosé’s adorable ploy, Sera laughed. Thanks to her, Sera and Helios truly did have something like a date, but… It’s just that it didn’t end well.
Leaning away from Rosé, Sera smiled quietly and shook her head.
“Hurry and eat now.”
She scooped up a forkful of sweet cake and brought it to Rosé’s mouth.
“Why are you feeding Rosé only? Me too, me too!”
As Ferre was watching, he whined and said that he wanted to eat what Sera would feed him, too.
Normally, she would have told him that he should eat by himself then pretend that she couldn’t win against him, even if she was only helping him eat. Nonetheless, he scooped up some cake and brought it to Ferre’s lips as well.
“But Hyung, why aren’t you eating? We made this, so eat up a lot!”
While chewing the cake that Sera had fed him, Ferre tilted his head to the side as he asked his older brother.
Helios wasn’t sure either.
There was nothing he could say in response to that, so he simply scooped up a piece of the same cake that the children were eating.
Strangely enough, the sweet cake tasted bitter to him.
