Chapter 209

Their happy summer memories came to an end.
The skies had boasted warmth and clarity all this time, but ever since yesterday, it had only been pouring with rain—perhaps mirroring Rosé and Ferre’s feelings. They were so sad about separating from Sera.
Through the drizzling rain, the procession of carriages passed through the streets of the city, which was colored all gray.
Like the gloomy scenery outside, what went on in the interior of one carriage was no different. Unlike how the atmosphere was in the imperial villa, heavy silence lingered in the air.
Sera was leaving. The thought of this sunk in with Rosé and Ferre, and they were silent throughout the entire morning.
They just sat down next to Sera, relishing the gentle touch of her hands upon their heads.
Rosé had suggested last night that the three of them should sleep side by side, but their conversation didn’t last very long, perhaps because everyone was feeling sad.
The carriage traversed for a very long time, but finally, it stopped in front of Sera’s house. With tears welling up their eyes, the twins turned to Sera.
Helios had been looking out a carriage window until now, watching the drizzle outside, but he also looked at Sera now.
Unable to hide the pained smile upon her lips, Sera slowly bowed her head.
“Thank you for taking me home on your way to the Imperial Palace. Your Majesty, Your Highness Rosé and Your Highness Ferre, I truly had a great time during our trip. It’s raining, so please don’t get off here. Get home safely.”
With tears nearly trickling down from their eyes, the twins looked up at Sera.
It was a similar, regretful expression that Sera had as well, but she quickly changed it to a bright smile.
She wiped away the hot tears that were now flowing down the children’s cheeks.
“Sera…”
“Seeera…”
Closing their mouths tightly, Rosé and Ferre desperately tried to keep their tears at bay.
Outside, Jean opened the door of the carriage, and the damp, cold air touched Sera’s skin.
Steeling herself, Sera turned to Helios and said her final goodbye.
“Thank you very much for everything, Your Majesty.”
“Yes, Miss Popo. Please get home safe. Thank you as well, for everything.”
Helios smiled weakly as their eyes met.
He had been awkward around her until now, and he seemed a little uncomfortable with her again this time. Sera felt a lodge in her throat as she saw the expression on his face, which was different than usual.
Sera could only think that this was the bitter result of her confession.
Holding up an umbrella for her, Jean offered a hand towards her so that he could help her out of the carriage.
As if to escape from the carriage, Sera leaned over and took Jean’s hand.
Splash.
When her feet reached the ground, muddy water splashed until Sera’s ankles.
She intended to walk forward without looking back—she was afraid that she would waver if she were to see the children’s faces now.
But at that moment, her two legs got caught.
“Rosé! Ferre!”
Helios’s voice followed.
“Sera! Don’t go!”
“Sera, you can’t go!”
“Sera should continue being Rosé’s teacher!”
“Ferre will live with Sera forever!”
“I wanna live with Sera forever, too!”
Rosé and Ferre had jumped out the carriage after her, clinging to her as their faces were streaming with tears.
They were being drenched by the rain, but they didn’t care about it soaking their clothes.
“Your Highnesses, you’re getting rained on. I told you not to come out…”
A few knights came running and hurriedly held umbrellas over Rosé and Ferre’s heads.
Soon, Helios got off the carriage as well and also went to Sera and his younger siblings.
“Rosé, Ferre. You promised before we went to the villa. You have to send off Miss Popo now.”
He coaxed the twins with a gentle tone.
“No! Don’t wanna!”
“I wanna stay with Sera! Hyung should go back to the palace alone!”
“Roseline. Ferreritan.”
“Uwaaaaaah!”
“Waaaaaaah!”
In the end, Rosé and Ferre burst out into tears and wailed, their voices cutting through the pounding rain.
Helios and the knights struggled to take Rosé and Ferre away from Sera, but the clinging children never let go.
With their knuckles going white, they desperately clasped Sera’s clothes.
Seeing this, Helios and the knights gave up first. It was likely that Sera’s clothes would get torn first if they were to continue forcefully wrenching the children away.
“Haa…”
Letting out a deep sigh, Helios buried his face into both his hands.
Sera also tried to get the children to let go, but Rosé and Ferre were being as stubborn as they were when she first met them.
One by one, passers-by were now casting their curious gazes upon the scene.
Right here was a magnificent carriage, knights standing in a disciplined row, and two children who were wailing loudly.
A crowd gathered around them in an instant, so their buzzing chatter could already be heard.
Before things could escalate even further, they needed to sort this out as soon as possible.
Sighing as deeply as Helios did, Sera lowered her voice and spoke.
“Then, please stop by my home for a little while until you calm down, Your Highnesses. But you have to keep your promise this time.”
Rosé and Ferre raised their tear and rain-soaked faces. As they finally let go of the skirt that they were holding onto so tightly, smiles lightly tugged up on the corners of their lips.
“Okay, Sera.”
“I got it, Sera.”

“Let me serve you some tea and refreshments.”
Sera held out a towel to Helios so he could dry his wet hair. Right now, he was sitting on the same chair he sat on when he first visited her house all those months ago.
As Rosé and Ferre had already been dried up by Sera, they occupied both sides of her.
Those younger siblings neglected their older brother entirely. As soon as Sera went to the kitchen, they left Helios right there.
‘They’re still the same. They really won’t let go of Miss Popo easily. No wonder they seemed so calm before, as if they were accepting the situation.’
Helios looked around the neat house calmly, wiping the rain off his cheeks.
Very little had changed from the time he suddenly made a visit to offer her the position of the twins’ tutor. Even the familiar magazines on the bookshelf.
A smile found its way on his lips. As Sera returned with a cup of tea, however, as soon as their eyes met, he quickly erased that expression.
Ever since that day, he didn’t quite know how to act around her.
“I apologize for having barged into your abode, Miss Popo.”
Helios apologized as he received the teacup that Sera gave to him.
“Not at all, Your Majesty. I didn’t know what else to do when the crowd started forming.”
Sera answered quietly while looking out a window. The knights were standing guard all around her house.
They were wiping their hair with the towels that Sera had handed out one by one.
“We’ll leave as soon as Rosé and Ferre’s clothes are dried.”
“Yes, but you can stay as long as you need to, Your Majesty.”
“Rosé, Ferre. You two also have to keep the promise you made to Miss Popo. We must return to the palace.”
With the areas around their eyes reddened by tears, the twins’ gazes headed towards Helios.
As if they couldn’t even remember the reason they cried, the two of them smiled and nodded.
It must be because they had successfully achieved what they were aiming for.
