Chapter 13.2

“This sweet little lady here offered me some candy. Would you like one too, young lord?”

“Candy?”

Recognizing the candy in the Tower Master’s hand, Lucion shot a sharp glare at Edith.

Edith frantically shook her head.

“No! He asked me for it, I swear!”

Lucion’s eyes hardened, his icy glare shifting back to the Tower Master.

“You really have no shame. You couldn’t find anyone else to rob, so you picked on a little girl?”

“Rob? That’s not—”

“Trash.”

“Wait, no—”

“Stay away from my wife and get lost.”

“Wife…?”

“Let’s go.”

Lucion ignored the Tower Master’s baffled expression and turned away.

Edith had been silently enjoying the spectacle of their one-sided argument when Lucion suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her along. She glanced back over her shoulder at the Tower Master.

“…Did he just call me trash?”

“Yes, it would seem so.”

The Tower Master’s shoulders slumped in defeat, and his companion gave him a sympathetic pat on the back.

They don’t exactly seem normal either, Edith thought, shaking her head as she hurried to keep up with Lucion’s long strides.

When they reached a secluded area, Lucion abruptly let go of her hand, practically tossing it aside.

“You are so—!”

Edith flinched at his sudden outburst, her shoulders jumping to her ears.

“Do you ever listen? Why do you always get yourself into trouble? Do you have any idea what those people could have done to you? And here you are handing out candy like it’s nothing!”

As he scolded her, Edith gnawed on her lower lip.

It wasn’t new, being scolded for things that weren’t her fault. It happened all the time.

But why did it feel so unfair this time?

All the emotions Edith had been bottling up inside finally burst.

“I didn’t do anything wrong! They came to me! They kept pestering me, saying they had questions to ask. How was I supposed to avoid them?”

“Questions? About what?”

“How should I know? You came and interrupted before they could say anything!”

Huff, huff.

Edith’s shoulders heaved from the outburst. It took her a second to realize her mistake, and she froze, glancing at Lucion to see his reaction.

But Lucion’s mind was already elsewhere.

‘What were they going to ask her? It’s not like they needed directions.’

He dismissed the idea that they were after information about him or his family.

That guy didn’t even seem to know who Edith was.

‘Sick pervert. He was only interested in her.’

His mood soured even further.

Lucion raised his head, ready to resume scolding her, but stopped short when he saw her expression.

Edith’s lips were jutting out in a pout.

“Hey, stop sticking your lips out like that.”

She obediently stopped, but the sulky look on her face remained.

“Now what? What’s your problem?”

“You called me by my name earlier…” Edith mumbled, kicking at a small stone on the ground.

“Don’t make stuff up. I didn’t do that.”

“Yes, you did. When you saw the Tower Master, you shouted, ‘Edith!’”

“…”

“And you even called me your wife.”

He froze as the memory replayed in his head.

‘Am I insane? What was I thinking?’

The words echoed in his mind, and Lucion felt his face heat up.

“I was just trying to get that guy to back off—!”

“Yeah, if you say so…” Edith muttered in a gloomy voice.

“I was happy when you called me by my name, but I guess it was just a one-time thing…”

She glanced up at him with big, doleful eyes, and Lucion felt like he would lose his mind.

A wet dog would look less pitiful than she does.

Unable to take it anymore, Lucion squeezed his eyes shut and muttered through gritted teeth.

“…Edith. There. Happy?”

“Yes! Does that mean you’ll call me by my name now?”

Watching her jump at the opportunity so quickly annoyed him for reasons he couldn’t explain.

“…You don’t even do it yourself.”

“What was that?”

“You don’t call me by my name, so why should I?!”

It took a second for Edith to process his words before she blinked in surprise.

“Wait… You’re saying I can call you by your name too?”

“Yeah. It’d be weird if I was the only one doing it. Besides, we’re married now…”

His face turned crimson, his embarrassment palpable.

Edith was overjoyed. She’d never thought she’d be allowed to call him by his name. It felt like too much to ask for.

“Lucion.”

Her sky-blue eyes sparkled with emotion, like stars twinkling in the night.

“Ugh.”

The way her face lit up, so close to his, made Lucion’s fingers twitch. A strange, unfamiliar sensation stirred within him, and he quickly turned his head away.
