“Master Lucion, you’ve wounded me.”
“Get lost.”
“Hic, so heartless.”
Lucion ignored Oscar’s crocodile tears and stormed toward Edith with a dangerous glint in his eye.
“I distinctly told you three days.”
“But—”
“Go wait. Be patient.”
Before Edith could protest, Lucion smirked and suddenly scooped her up.
“Gah!”
He lifted her by her underarms, and Edith helplessly thrashed her feet mid-air, her composure vanishing in an instant.
“This is a position that violates human dignity!”
“If you’re bored, go bother my father.”
“No, wait—! At least take this!”
“Becky, take her away.”
Lucion handed her off to Becky, who had been silently waiting by the door, then slammed the door shut behind them with a loud BAM.
He sighed, bending to pick up the handkerchief that had fallen on the floor during the commotion.
He wondered what was so important that she’d put so much effort into giving to him, only to realize it was the same handkerchief he’d given her before.
“She could’ve just thrown it away instead of doing something this pointless.”
The soft fabric carried a faint, fresh scent of soap and sunlight.
‘Exactly like her.’
Lucion didn’t even realize the corners of his mouth had lifted into a small smile until he glanced up, startled, to find Oscar staring at him like he was some ruffian.
“What.” Lucion raised a brow.
“Did you really have to be so harsh?”
“If I’m not, it’ll just give my aunt another excuse to spread rumors about how ‘close’ we are. Is that what you want?”
“Well, you may have a point, but still—”
“And do you have any idea how persistent that girl is? Did you see the look in her eyes just now?”
“I did.”
“She’s completely nuts.”
“Absolutely adorable.”
The two of them said at the same time.
“…”
“…”
An awkward silence filled the room.
Lucion’s gaze grew cold with disdain.
“Are you out of your mind? Do you even know how old she is? You disgusting creep.”
“That’s not what I meant!”
“Stay away from her. If I catch you hovering around her, you’re dead meat.”
“Master Lucion!”
“Get out of my sight.”
Thump! A pillow flew across the room, slamming into the door as Oscar scrambled away.

Time flew by, and the day to visit the Grand Temple had finally arrived.
It was the Day of Blessing. The day Edith had long awaited for.
After receiving the high priest’s blessing and exchanging their vows, she and Lucion would officially be husband and wife.
Yet, as much as she had anticipated this moment, Edith’s heart felt heavy.
“Father… are you really not coming?”
“I’m tied up with work. Be brave and go on without me, my daughter-in-law.”
“Father…!”
As the carriage pulled away, Edith held back her tears, watching the duke’s figure grow smaller in the distance.
“What’s with the theatrics? Stop being so dramatic.”
Lucion clicked his tongue, nudging her aside as he shut the window with a loud SLAM. The noise made Edith press her lips together tightly.
Without the duke around to keep Lucion in check, Edith couldn’t help but worry, especially since he was in a particularly foul mood today.
“Are you scared?”
“No, not really.”
“Sure, you’re not. It’s written all over your face.”
Lucion clicked his tongue again, turning to look at the passing scenery outside the window.
“All they’re gonna do is tap your head and that’s it. Nothing to be scared of.”
His gruff reassurance made Edith glance at him from the opposite seat.
Lucion still didn’t take his eyes off the window as he spoke again.
“Truthfully, I’m still not thrilled about this marriage.”
“I understa—”
But before she could finish, Lucion quickly cut her off.
“It’s not because I think you’re unworthy.”
“What? Then why…?”
“Why did you decide to marry me? To everyone else, I’m probably the worst choice you could’ve made.”
“…I’m surprised you’re so self-aware.”
“Just answer the question.”
Lucion didn’t raise his voice, nor did he sound angry.
It was the first time he had brought up the topic of their marriage so seriously.
The weight of his sincerity pushed Edith to respond with equal honesty.
“I don’t care about your reputation or what people think of you. That’s not important to me.”
She looked into his steady eyes and continued.
“What matters is that we both have something the other needs. I can break your curse, and you can protect me. It seemed like an ideal arrangement.”
Lucion listened quietly, then nodded as he caught onto the underlying meaning in her words.
“So you chose marriage as a way to escape your family.”
