Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 42.1
Chapter 42.1
Chapter 4 — Meeting the Male Lead
They say the earth became firmer after the rain.
After all the commotion, Michael and Robert seemed to have grown closer. Well, not exactly as lovey-dovey friends. As usual, the two of them entered Izeline’s room and took their seats, eager to speak before the other could utter a word.
“It’s rude to come empty-handed.”
Michael, who had purchased a plethora of gifts in Ernon, proudly lifted the corners of his mouth as he untied the dazzling bundle.
Robert, who had stolen a glance at it, snorted as if it were ridiculous.
“It’s nothing special.”
“It’s not easy to satisfy the tastes of a young lord.”
“My tastes aren’t particularly refined.”
“You don’t have to worry about it since it’s not yours anyway.”
Smiling refreshingly, Michael suddenly turned his head and handed something to Izeline, who had been savoring the fluffy milk pudding, regardless of whether they were fighting or not. She blinked at the box that was thrust in front of her.
“What’s twis?”
She received the gift with both hands, a spoon still in her mouth, and immediately unfolded the neatly folded contents of the box. It was a lovely dress that would fit a seven-year-old girl perfectly.
“Wow!”
The spoon she was holding fell to the floor, along with her exclamation. Nonetheless, Izeline couldn’t take her eyes off the dress that was elegantly adorned with jewels.
Michael smiled contentedly at the sight of her.
“Try it on quickly. I’d like to see if it suits you.”
“Of course it will suit her. Who’s wearing it?”
Robert, sensing a crisis, intervened with a jealous tone. He had thought it was just a dress, but when he unfolded it, it turned out to be quite a high-quality dress.
Although the Armanty mansion provided Izeline with luxurious clothing befitting the status of a child under their patronage, it was impossible to keep up with the designers of the fashion-conscious capital. After all, it made no sense to have a luxurious dress in the dull and boring Souvri, where there were no social gatherings.
In any case, Robert, whose taste was quite refined, continued to speak anxiously about the gift, which he considered to be of excellent quality. It was also a testament to his old habits.
“Give it to me. I’ll help her change.”
“Huh? Wait a minute…”
“Come this way. Since Michael is here, in the bathroom…”
After snatching the dress, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her along, though he suddenly stopped short, his words trailing off. Something popped into his head, and strange scenes began to unfold in his mind.
“W-well, you see…”
Like a wooden doll with few joints, he turned around stiffly and stammered so badly that it was embarrassing.
“W-we’ve already taken a b-bath together anyway. I mean, I c-could help you put on your n-nightgown and dry your h-hair…”
“Yes, so?”
“D-d-don’t you remember?”
“Of course, I remember.”
“W-women’s dresses are u-unnecessarily complicated. Look at this! It’s hard to tie the r-ribbon in the back.”
“I can reach my arms behind my back now.”
When Izeline demonstrated by gracefully folding both arms behind her back, Robert exclaimed as if he couldn’t believe his eyes.
“That’s why we don’t bathe together anymore!”
“Why are you yelling?”
He covered his face with one hand, his ears turning bright red as he panicked, and then he started to cry inexplicably.
“W-when did I ever!”
“You’re doing it right now.”
“No, I’m not?!”
“Oh…”
Izeline raised an eyebrow, wondering what had gotten into him. However, she decided to let it go since she wanted to try on the dress as soon as possible.
“Just help me change.”
“You can do it yourself.”
“What?”
“Even if we’re friends, there are some things we shouldn’t do.”
Robert, who had regained some composure, replied in a somewhat calm voice. Of course, Izeline was taken aback.
“You were the one who offered to help me change.”
“When did I?”
“You just did.”
“No, I didn’t.”
His face, which had been pale, gradually turned redder. Unaware of the change, Izeline pressed on, annoyed by his repeated lies.
“Why are you lying? Michael is a witness.”
As he did so, he turned his head with a ‘Really?’ expression. Michael, who met her eyes, nodded once with a trembling face.
He looked at the match between Robert, who was obviously embarrassed, and Izeline, who was arguing in a resentful tone, with a troubled expression. How should he define the relationship between the two?
