Dear Eddert - Chapter 56
“Yes. So I looked more because I wanted to keep an eye on you for a bit, and it seemed like I misunderstood.”
Gulp. Eden looked at Ayla and smiled awkwardly, her face was in wrinkles.
“Ayla, you how, how far have you seen… ? Haha….”
“I left after seeing Eden get on top of Walter’s body and move your body yourself.”
Ayla just finished her words neatly and calmly turned her head away. Eden felt sweat pooling up on her side despite it being winter.
Ayla’s hand, which was taking out the baked bread from the tray with the tongs, and then stacking it in the rattan woven basket, still looked indifferent.
“… A, Ayla….. I’m really sorry.”
“What are you sorry about?”
“That’s because I showed you something bad.”
Eden’s face turned red. She felt like she had become Aunt Katrina and Uncle Frank. It was even worse when the youngest, Ayla, was the one who caught her. Along with the embarrassment, a sorry feeling welled up for some reason.
“I was just surprised.”
That’s for sure. It would be surprising to see Eden and Walter who had been fighting everyday, was sticking together.
“… I wonder if it can be so good while doing that.”
Ayla muttered to herself as she gazed at the flames with a blurred gaze, like looking into the distance. Her face grew hard and her voice was slightly lowered and pensive.
“Eden looked like it really felt good. You said you were going to die, but… It seemed so far away from wanting to die.”
Eden bowed her head in penitence as she recalled the image of herself gasping as she climbed on top of Walter, saying that she was about to die. If she really could, she wanted to just crawl into the oven and hide. She was so ashamed of herself to look at Ayla’s face.
“So I tried to watch more, but I stopped because Mister Cedric seemed to be coming near the barn.”
Eden jumped up with wide eyes. Absurd. She’d rather drown in a well than have Cedric uncover her affair with Walter and make fun of her until she dies.
Ah. Come to think of it, Cedric’s narrow gaze looking at her and Walter these days seemed a bit odd.
“Why is Cedric walking around and not sleeping at that time!”
Eden frowned, forgetting that she hadn’t asked Ayla the same question. Ayla had piled up the bread like a mountain in an instant, then gave a high-pitched voice as she gripped the tongs.
“He would have come to see wild animals in the winter because the animals come in sometimes at that time. Mister Cedric is such a person. He is a person who works hard for the castle, both in sight and out of sight. He said that there seemed to be strange noises in the barn.”
“That… so? So what happened?”
Eden looked at Ayla as her heart was racing with tension. Could it be that the unwanted audience has now increased from one to two?
“I said I already looked around beforehand. So Mister Cedric said….”
“Did that overly suspicious bastard come to the barn because he couldn’t trust you? Is that so!”
“No. He stroked my hair and said that I did well.”
Ayla, who had been praised by Cedric, shrugged her shoulders slightly, unable to hide her proud expression.
“Ah, what a relief.”
Eden let out a huge sigh of relief and touched her forehead. The fact that she almost got caught by Cedric terrified her.
“Thank you so much, Ayla. You are my lifesaver… !”
Instead of saying that Cedric would have already noticed the two’s relationship, Ayla quietly gulped.
“I have a question for you.”
Eden gulped down in fear for what she would ask.
“Do you love Walter?”
Fortunately, it wasn’t a question that would make her face burn hot in embarrassment. Eden nodded her head without the slightest hesitation at the question.
“I love him.”
Eden could confidently say that she loved him as her family, a friend, and now as a lover.
“How does it feel… to love someone?”
Ayla’s eyes were serious as she looked at Eden and continued to throw questions. At least she wasn’t making fun of Eden like Cedric.
Eden picked up a piece of bread from the tray, took a big bite, and chewed it. The freshly baked warm bread had a good texture.
“Well, you know….”
After thinking about it for a moment, Eden raised her head and smiled.
“If Walter is in danger, I think I would die for him.”
Ayla silently blinked her blue eyes.
“… That’s an extreme answer.”
“That’s what I feel.”
Eden shrugged her shoulders as she bit the bread again. The bread with chestnuts inside was Walter’s favorite item. She thought she should hide one and secretly give it to him. Ayla, who was silent for a moment, suddenly spoke again.
“But I think I know what you mean.”
With the delighted Eden, Ayla quietly continued her words with shining eyes.
“If later, instead of telling that person I love them, I would die for them… Will the other person know my true feelings?”
“Hey. Ayla. That’s a bit too extreme. Haha. It would be too bad if you died at the same time you confessed!”
“Action can speak louder than a hundred words to some people, right?”
“Stop talking like an old man. Did you know that whenever you do that, you keep reminding me of Cedric?”
“… is that so?”
Eden had intended it to scold Aya, but Ayla seemed to take it as a compliment. She lowered her thick, golden eyelashes and gave a visible smile. Ayla was much cuter because she smiled. For some reason, Eden felt like she and Ayla had become closer.
“Will Mister Cedric love someone one day….”
Ayla, who was continuing her words, suddenly narrowed her eyes and closed her mouth tightly. Seeing her hardening face, Eden tilted her head, and at the same time Cedric’s figure appeared.
“What. Why are you here all of a sudden?”
One of the basic training the trainees received was the ability to move without making a sound, and among them, Cedric was by far the most advanced. How did Ayla, who was facing the fire pit, notice he was coming?
