◈
Today, the young lady shed tears again.
When I asked her what happened, she exploded in anger, saying that Young Master Johan took away Penny.
Young Master Johan always used to snatch the young lady’s teddy bear or damage it.
Despite claiming to have no interest in the ‘ugly’ doll.
Perhaps the young master got upset because the young lady only played together with Penny and not with him.
After crying for a while, the young lady halted her sobs and put on a determined face. Then she said to me,
“I’ll get my teddy back from Johannes.”
And so, the young lady rushed out of the first-floor’s hall, where Young Master Johan was.
Inwardly worried, I discreetly followed her.
But as expected, an incident I feared happened.
The young lady, who was demanding Penny back, toppled Young Master Johan.
The problem was that, as they fell, a vase nearby shattered, and Young Master Johan’s hand started to bleed.
I had never seen so much blood in my life.
I felt my legs weaken, and the young lady, who had a bewildered expression, soon said,
“Y-You shouldn’t have done that!”
Despite her stern words, her face showed concern for Young Master Johan’s well-being.
The problem arose from here.
Upon hearing the commotion, the lady of the house rushed over.
With a startled expression, she examined Young Master Johan and then immediately cast a suspicious gaze at the young lady, whom she saw as the culprit of the incident.
Then, like a wild beast, she lunged forward and smacked the young lady’s cheek with her hand adorned with a thick ring.
The young lady’s fair cheek turned red in an instant, now marred with an angry injury.
Overwhelmed by the pressure, the young lady couldn’t bear it and fled, clutching Penny in her arms.
However, the situation was far from over.
As night fell, the master of the mansion returned home, and news of the day’s events reached his ears.
He summoned the young lady and the young master and demanded an explanation.
Upon hearing the story, the master of the house laughed heartily, as if it were a trivial matter.
“It’s only natural for kids to have quarrels among themselves!”
Though the master spoke in a casual tone, his eyes remained cold.
“However, little one, people should learn to take responsibility for their actions.”
In an instant, the master snatched Penny from the young lady’s hand and threw it into the fireplace.
The young lady rushed towards the fireplace, and Young Master Johan, who was nearby, grabbed her with a shocked expression.
“Father!”
The young lady cried out in desperation, but the master ignored her cries.
The precious item given to her by her late mother turned to ashes in a matter of seconds.
The master stared at the sobbing young lady coldly.
After crying for a long while, the young lady asked in a hollow voice,
“Then, what about Johannes? He took my teddy bear. How will he be held responsible for that, Father?”
—Excerpt from S’s Diary
────────────
Having read the diary, Dietrich diligently prepared the fireplace with firewood.
It seems he believed that the correct way to deal with the first floor boss was to burn it in the fireplace, just as how it had transpired in the diary’s contents.
I hugged Furball in my arms while sitting on the main hall’s stairs, observing his actions.
Perhaps this was a safe approach.
Back when I had played the game, I also went down this path.
There are two ways to win the boss battle on the first floor.
The first method was exactly what Dietrich was doing—to burn the boss in the fireplace.
However, there was one issue with this method.
It was the activation of [ The Dead Doll’s Grudge ].
In the early stages of the game, I often burned the doll in the fireplace, and then [ The Dead Doll’s Grudge ] would trigger, causing the large doll to explode like a bomb and engulf the entire first floor.
And what happens after that?
Dietrich dies.
Game over.
That’s why I recommended ‘Cold and Chic, But Cool Doll’ and ‘Sweet Taste of Death Doll’.
The former has a cooling effect for one use, so you’ll be able to survive amidst a sea of flames.
The latter, on the other hand, was an OP item that’s bordering on fraudulent, given that it was a 1-UP item that allows the player to live again after having died once.
The other way to win the boss battle…
Well, judging by what Dietrich is doing right now, it seems quite hopeless.
[ Time remaining until the duel: 00:15:09 ]
Dietrich held buckets in both hands, rapidly moving them back and forth.
You could see veins popping on his raised arms.
But…
“Water?”
Why that?
Dietrich continuously poured buckets full of water.
[ Time remaining until the duel: 00:02:37 ]
It was almost time for the duel to start.
Two minutes quickly became one, and the familiar countdown dwindled down.
Even though he wasn’t watching the clock, Dietrich must have felt that time was running out as well.
He stood in the center.
As Dietrich slowly drew his sword from its sheath, boom, boom! Familiar footsteps echoed.
[ Time remaining until the duel: 00:00:01 ]
“You’re here.”
Dietrich drew his sword and looked up at the gigantic teddy bear.
The bear, in return, huffed out heavily while looking at Dietrich.
I sat on the stairs and observed them, looking down at Furball in my arms.
“Hmm?”
As I gently stroked Furball’s back, who was giving me an odd look, I pondered.
A little later, when the teddy bear would explode in flames, I would remain unscathed. But what about little Furball?
Would he be able to escape unscathed like me?
