Confined Together with the Horror Game’s Male Lead - Chapter 36
Chapter 36

—
Dietrich instinctively rose and took a defensive stance. Just before the colossal teddy bear’s fist swung down, he pulled me close and rolled on the floor.
Crackkkk!
The massive table split in half.
“Ha…”
We both narrowly avoided being launched by that powerful punch.
The manager of the first floor and boss had arrived.
“Are you okay?”
“Huh? I’m fine.”
I guess he was worried that I might have been hurt, as he gently wrapped his arms around my head, ensuring I was unharmed.
“Kyuuung…!”
—Kiiee… Let’s run!
—Run!
In the face of the giant teddy bear’s arrival, the small teddy bears scattered in panic.
I quickly got up, holding Furball in one hand and grabbing Dietrich’s wrist with the other.
“We need to run, too.”
“You’re the one who’s injured. I…”
“Hurry!”
I shouted, and the startled Dietrich followed me as I pulled him.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The first floor’s boss was relentlessly pursuing us.
Due to the administrator’s enormous size, every step they took caused furniture to shatter and left large marks on the floor.
I held Dietrich’s hand and ran across the mansion.
The mansion was so vast that the corridors seemed never-ending.
Boom! Boom!
The echoing footsteps of the first floor administrator were accompanied by enormous crashing sounds, but we managed to barely shake him off in the fork in the corridors.
I ushered Dietrich and Furball into a room tucked away in the corridor, and we entered together.
“Haa…”
It had been a while since we had to run so urgently.
I pressed my ear against the door without lowering my guard, but I heard no sound.
With a sigh of relief, I leaned my back against the door. That’s when Dietrich looked at me with an inscrutable gaze.
“I didn’t expect it to appear so quickly.”
I became acutely aware of the difference in perceived time between playing the game outside the monitor and experiencing it firsthand.
I wish I had been a bit less complacent.
“Why did you run away?”
Well, because you haven’t collected all the pages of S’s diary yet.
So far, Dietrich had collected a total of two pages. There’s one last page.
As one might guess, S’s diary provided hints to help pass the trials imposed by each floor’s boss.
“Because it seemed dangerous.”
“……”
He didn’t look too pleased.
I wiped the sweat from my forehead and looked around the dim room.
Judging by the multitude of clothes, this was a walk-in closet.
Luckily, it appeared that there were no monsters in sight.
During my gameplays, I had been in this room several times, and occasionally, there were monsters here as well.
Additionally, each time I went here, the difficulty level would get a bit harder.
“But anyway, Dietrich, how long do you plan to stay undressed?”
“……”
“How about finding some suitable clothes for you here?”
Only then did he seem to realize that he was literally half-naked, and his ears turned slightly red.
He looked around and found some clothes for himself.
Sweat was dripping between the muscles on his well-defined back. I wondered if this was exactly how it looked when that woodcutter stole the fairy’s clothes in that one story.
He quickly covered his muscular frame with a single thin shirt, which seemed to be a nobleman’s attire with its luxurious fabric.
Dietrich had a relatively large physique, but fortunately, the shirt fit him like a glove.
It was unclear whether there had once been an owner for this shirt, but it appeared that he shared Dietrich’s robust build.
Dietrich searched for another piece of clothing to wear over the shirt, and he browsed through the clothes a few more times.
Then, he furrowed his brow.
“What’s wrong?”
“…These seem to be of quite an old design.”
“Really?”
“These designs might even be more than a century old…”
Ah, was he focused on that?
As an outsider to this world, I had no way of knowing such details.
I watched him curiously as he scrutinized the clothing, and something fell from between the folds.
[ ‘Dietrich’ has acquired a portion of S’s diary. ]
[ The contents of the diary shall be shared with Charlotte. ]
Sure enough, the last part of S’s diary was here.
I was getting worried about whether Dietrich would be able to obtain it, but thankfully, it was found now.
Dietrich looked at the diary excerpt with surprise.
Just as I was about to read its contents, there was a gentle knocking at the door.
“Step back.”
Without hesitation, Dietrich held my arm and pushed me behind him.
There was no need for such precautions.
He stared at the door with a guarded expression.
Knock, knock.
The knocking sound came again.
“Are you planning to have a standoff with the door, Dietrich?”
“Why do you keep saying such nonsensical things…?”
Oh, how frustrating.
Then, it couldn’t be helped.
I pushed Dietrich aside and opened the door myself.
“You…!”
Dietrich started to warn me in a low voice and tried to hold me back.
But I already knew what was outside that door.
“You all…”
They were the teddy bears that had invited Dietrich to the Doll Café.
If the one who had caught us was the giant teddy bear, or rather, the first floor administrator and boss, it would have been [Game Over].
But if the player manages to escape, the administrator would ever so kindly pose a challenge to the player instead.
Just like now.
The teddy bears looked up at Dietrich and handed him a card.
Eyeing them warily for a moment, Dietrich reached down and took the card.
[ Duel ]
Fight me.
If I win, I shall spare your life.
Meet me in an hour.
If you don’t show up, I’ll come to where you are!
“……”
“……”
It was a duel challenge that didn’t seem imposing at all.
