Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 314
Chapter 314
As usual, Elaina had no intention of granting Vincent’s repeated requests to use her ability. She could project memories as if displaying them on a video screen inside one’s head, complete with the sensations and emotions she felt at the time.
“I’m sorry….. It’s my first time handling a baby.”
“Should I call you Ella?”
“Ella.”
A voice that was soft and gentle, and the smile was blurry.
Amidst the excessively flamboyant and glittering presence of Valentine, Winter was so unassuming and quiet that he almost seemed invisible. However, this very quality was what Elaina liked.
The baby found Winter fascinating. He wasn’t loud, didn’t make strange noises, and wasn’t overly dramatic. Being with him felt warm and cozy, just like falling asleep in the arms of her parents.
“Ah, what a surprise. I open my eyes and here I am.”
“A baby. Hello, baby.”
“Are you bored? Want to play?”
“I’ll show you something cool!”
Plus Winter was incredibly fun.
Despite his large adult body, he could be more fun and exciting than playing with Luca. To Elaina, it was like meeting a peer she had never met before, which was thrilling.
However, after being whisked away by the servants to take his medicine, he would return to being calm and docile.
“I don’t want to take medicine!”
“Let’s run away, Ella!”
Sometimes, Winter would laugh and suddenly lift Elaina, sprinting away from the servants. Then Cloud would have to intervene after the servants called for help.
“It’s past time for your medicine, young duke, no, Crown Prince.”
“Let go!”
“Dya!”
Although Winter and Elaina’s time together was brief, it left a vivid impression and embedded itself in the baby’s memory. Perhaps it was because he often spent time with her when there was nothing else for him to do at the castle.
While they mostly interacted when he was in his normal state, occasionally, he would regress to a childlike state.
“Ah.”
Overwhelmed by the rush of memories and emotions suddenly shared by Elaina, Winter stood dazed, sequentially remembering twenty-eight years of forgotten memories.
“…”
For a moment, Winter squeezed his eyes shut. As usual, his memories returned and he struggled with shame.
“No way…”
Vincent was taken aback, witnessing the scene right beside him. Winter groaned at the rushing memories.
“Sorry… I vaguely remember teaching the baby those harsh words.”
He sighed briefly before his expression calmed.
“I didn’t realize Ella would remember what I said. It’s not good for a child’s emotional development.”
Vincent, Aria, and even Cloud, who was standing nearby, exchanged bewildered looks as they watched Winter apologize and Elaina giggle.
“Could it be that the side effects of the drug are finally gone?”
Vincent asked.
Will there be a light for Winter who was thought to suffer permanently from the side effects of the drug?
If so, this could be God’s miracle.
“Could it be…?”
Winter, his eyes shining mysteriously and cheeks flushed, looked down at Elaina. He showed a rare change of expression for him who typically appeared half-dazed.
He lifted the child up high and asked.
“Is it true, Ella?”
“Dyaa.”
But Winter’s joy lasted a day.
The side effects persisted, and he reverted to a younger mental state, only to return to normal with Elaina’s help.
“…”
Aria, squatting down next to a deflated Winter and patted his back.
“So it’s not a complete fix. You can revert to your normal state whenever you regress.”
“Isn’t that something.”
Winter looked disappointed but soon changed his mind.
As long as Elaina was by his side, he could always return to normal.
“Ella, will you come to Garcia with me?”
“Dda.”
“Where do you think you’re going!”
Vincent exclaimed as he swiftly scooped Elaina from Winter who was going to kidnap his niece.
“You don’t understand my struggles. It’s become routine for me to revert to a child right before important meetings.”
Winter began to complain.
“I have no choice but to fake a collapse to convince everyone that I’m severely ill. It’s a miracle I haven’t been caught yet.”
“If it’s incurable, why not just be open about it?”
“Could you do it if you were me?”
“…”
Vincent avoided his gaze, unable to say yes.
“Just take your medication.”
“It often doesn’t work due to immunity, and when I’m in that state, I absolutely refuse to take it.”
“Anyway, surely not Ella. You know the Grand Duke’s castle is paralyzed without her.”
Vincent clutched Elaina tightly in shock.
“I feel like I can’t live without Ella now. And I bet Ella too….likes me more.”
“What did you say?”
Vincent looked down at Elaina with a look of exploding disappointment.
He was visibly upset as it was clear that the baby preferred Winter over him. At that moment, Elaina placed her hand on Vincent’s cheek.
It was the baby’s ability he had so longed to see.
