Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 288
Chapter 288
It was the day of the coronation.
Everyone hoped for clear and sunny skies for this occasion.
Unfortunately, the rain started early in the morning and continued for three days straight.
‘Rainy season in winter.’
Aria extended her hand into the air while looking puzzled, then quickly withdrew it.
‘Today seems to have an ominous feeling.’
The rain wasn’t as light as the day before. It was as if a fierce downpour could start at any moment.
“Watch your step.”
Lloyd, having stepped out of the carriage first, opened a black umbrella and extended his hand to Aria.
She adjusted Elaina’s attire before stepping out of the carriage.
The dry winter meant the humidity during the rainy season wasn’t too bothersome.
Instead, a bone-chilling cold seeped in.
“Ella, are you cold?”
“Ddya…”
Elaina looked like a little snowman bundled up in white fur as she couldn’t wrap herself up tightly.
“Luca, put on your coat.”
At Aria’s command, Luca casually draped the sheepskin coat he had tossed onto the seat over his shoulders.
It was a matching coat with Elaina’s.
“Wear it properly.”
“I don’t need to wear such things. They’re heavy and suffocating.”
“Ella is wearing hers properly. What if you catch a cold?”
“Ddya!”
“Dragons don’t catch colds… Ah, fine.”
Luca gave in under the gaze of the mother-and-daughter and properly wore his coat.
“Being younger is inconvenient.”
Though he was only two, he managed everything on his own when in his adult form.
He could have stormed into enemy lines and obliterated them with his divine powers without anyone raising an eyebrow.
Instead, humans admired him with a sense of wonder.
‘Being an adult is quite convenient…’
He wished not only his body but also his age could mature faster.
Luca grumbled.
“There’s no need to fuss over me.”
“I want to fuss over you.”
Aria secured his coat and buttoned it up to his neck, then spoke with a satisfied look.
“It’d be even better if you acted spoiled like before. Then you’d be as adorable as Ella.”
“Ugh, please spare me that.”
Luca groaned and blushed.
Despite the changes brought by his mission to protect God, it was clear he wasn’t entirely averse to it.
‘So cute.’
As she carries Elaina out of the carriage, Lloyd wrapped his arm around Aria’s shoulder, pulling her close to him.
“Uwaa.”
The baby looked around curiously, her face full of wonder.
All she could see through the umbrella was the blurry surroundings and the pouring rain, so what was so amazing about it? Her cheeks and nose were reddened by the cold.
Aria let out a soft laugh.
“It reminds me of that time.”
“That time?”
Aria blinked up at Lloyd.
“Back then, it was a parasol.”
Lloyd whispered before lowering his head to kiss her lips.
Their lips, damp from the humidity, stuck together briefly before parting.
No one would know what they were up to.
Much like that hot summer day when they kissed under a parasol.
“Ella is watching. What must she think?”
“Mom and dad get along well?”
What?
Aria playfully slapped Lloyd’s back, though the thick coat meant only a muffled sound was made. Of course, Lloyd probably wouldn’t have flinched even without the coat.
Luca chimed in as he watched them.
“I saw everything.”
“Kuhm.”
“You have a good relationship.”
Embarrassed, Aria cleared her throat and hit Lloyd’s back again.
“The coronation ceremony will soon begin.”
Izmel, the Archwizard’s disciple, remarked while gazing at the cloud-filled and darkened sky.
He then pressed his master, the Archwizard Yannick, who was massaging his temples.
“Master!”
“Quiet. Don’t cause a fuss.”
“So, we proceed with the coronation under these conditions?”
“Yes, we must.”
It hadn’t been long since the Emperor’s ascension, with the empire already unstable, the palace was in disarray.
Natalie’s long history as a rebellious princess meant winning the people’s hearts outright was challenging.
“Her Majesty’s rebellious acting has made many enemies. They’re all waiting like hyenas.”
With the Pope’s seat vacant, the coronation would be held in the palace, not the Great Temple overseen by the emperor. Since this was breaking a centuries-old tradition, a single mistake was not tolerable. As it would provide critics an opportunity to question the emperor’s legitimacy.
“However, magic stones filled with rain are currently activated. Without knowing their purpose, we must prepare for all possibilities.”
Magic wasn’t all-powerful.
Changing the weather or causing natural disasters was nearly impossible with magic.
But it was possible to store summer monsoon rain with magic. Then release the rain in it during a drought.
Now, the magic stones filled with rain belonging to the Magic Tower were stolen. An unusual monsoon in winter was the result.
“This theft may have nothing to do with the coronation.”
“But what if it does?”
The problem was, even if related, it was a mystery to guess what was their plan in using rain to achieve their goal.
Yannick briefly glanced outside before letting out an inscrutable smile and calmly responded.
“It’s the Emperor’s will. There must be a plan.”
“No, what could possibly be…”
“Valentine’s entire family has been invited. The Emperor plans to consult with them, so a solution will likely be found.”
“Valentine?”
Well, there were rumors of them being a hero and God’s representative.
