Beast in the Woods, Deep in the Night - Chapter 28.2
Chapter 28.2
“The Blue Hammer guys haven’t made any particular move yet. They seemed to have let their guard down after receiving the leaked information from our side.”
Isaac briefly caught a glimpse of the sunset outside the window and the rough waves crashing beneath it.
If this had been the operation they had originally planned, by now, the Black Fang Guild would be sailing towards the Blue Hammer Guild’s hideout in the middle of the island.
‘Then the ship would have capsized, unable to overcome those rough waves, and we would have been left floundering in the middle of the sea.’
It was thanks to Christine’s words that they escaped great anger.
“Even if it wasn’t because of the guild’s retaliation, he was thinking of moving somewhere else someday. He said that the sea over there is so volatile that sometimes the wind blows so hard that it can be life-threatening.”
Isaac, being a cautious person, did not ignore what Christine had told him in his office.
So, the day before the operation began, he dispatched two informants to a village near the docks. One was sent to a retired fisherman with no ties to the Blue Hammer Guild, and the other was sent to a young fisherman who was at the bottom of the hierarchy within the guild.
As expected, the weather forecast by the two fishermen was quite different.
“The old fisherman cautioned me. He said that the wind is usually gentle at this time of year, so it’s easy to let your guard down, but judging by the clouds, the wind and waves will be strong tomorrow.”
“The young fisherman repeatedly said that tomorrow will be a perfect day to sail. After talking with me, he seemed to be talking to the executives of the Blue Hammer Guild.”
It seemed that even the master of the Blue Hammer guild, Polhensio, thought that the Black Fang Guild would start attacking, so he ordered the fishermen of the guild to leak false information.
Isaac was simply trying to find out the exact weather, but thanks to Christine, he learned something unexpected.
‘If they had anticipated our invasion… they would have naturally taken the chimera in their possession somewhere else.’
Had it not been for her, it would have been a waste of time for Edgar, who had even moved to rescue the chimeras himself.
Just thinking about the moment when Edgar’s cold green eyes would turn to face him made him stunned, so Isaac felt grateful to Christine as he opened his mouth.
“The Blue Hammer Guild secretly smuggled something they were researching yesterday morning from the docks to a nearby village. The guys are figuring out the exact location, so we should hear from them soon.”
“Report to me as soon as you get it.”
Edgar had been preparing for this ambush for months when he learned that the Blue Hammer Guild was smuggling chimeras to study them.
He had no interest in the purpose or plans of the fishy-smelling guild. Although it was not as powerful as the blood of Richard that flows through his body, the power of the chimeras and the jewels formed by the hardening of their body fluids were of infinite use and were studied for a wide variety of purposes.
Edgar had only one goal; rescuing the chimera they were abusing. The way to achieve that goal was simple.
Cutting the throats of all the witnesses who abused the chimera and the bystanders and rescuing it. Of course, there was no sympathy or leniency.
“I’ll take care of the chimera, so you don’t need to worry about that.”
“Yes, Edgar,” Isaac politely replied. Edgar was taking action himself, so what was there to worry about?
Isaac, as well as the chimeras mobilized for this mission, were all rescued by Edgar. This meant that he had seen the monstrous power flowing through the body of Grand Duke Richard’s son, boasting his pure bloodline.
“I will deal with the guild’s request without error so that you don’t worry about it, Edgar.”
Edgar grinned at Isaac’s words.
“Good. The client must have been so desperate and anxious that he asked us to take care of the job for three times the usual amount of money.”
His esteem contained ridicule both towards the client, who would be stamping his feet because of them, and the ridiculous situation.
There was also a little bit of pity for the client who was caught up in a sh*tty situation since he knew that his client, who he had been in contact with for a long time, was meticulous and careful.
He recalled the commission William Heilen, his client and second prince of the empire, had made to the Black Fang Guild.
