Chapter 45.2

“By the way, I heard that His Highness Cassel is being sponsored by the leader of the Hyllan Merchants Association. The scale of their support is incredible.”

When Aldrin first heard about the warp being constructed, she didn’t believe it. After all, Cassel had been sent here for defying the Emperor, and she couldn’t imagine the imperial family funding such a project for him. But then, the leader of the Hyllan Association really did build the warp as a gift.

How could something like that happen? And not only that—they completed it in an incredibly short time.

“Oh, there were many instances like that on the battlefield as well.”

Aldrin raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Calia’s words.

“On the battlefield?”

“Yes, the leader of the Hyllan Merchants Association once sent us mangoes, insisting that we needed to eat seasonal fruit. Fresh fruit on a battlefield—can you imagine? It was pretty hilarious.”

Aldrin was surprised to hear that.

“I thought they were just supplying necessities.”

“The supplies were far from ordinary. And His Highness Cassel’s armor and sword were replaced regularly.”

“Oh, my?”

“The armor was enchanted with magic.”

It was custom-made armor, enchanted with magic. Because they believed it was bad luck for blood to stain it, they replaced the expensive armor every six months. Considering most people wore the same set of armor their entire lives, it was truly remarkable.

Something unusual always seemed to be happening around Cassel.

“You’ll probably experience the influence of the Hyllan Association while you’re here.”

Calia remarked with a smile, and Aldrin nodded in agreement.

She was already noticing the changes, starting with the warp.

For one, she still couldn’t get used to how the once dull duchy’s banquet hall had been transformed into something so extravagant.

Cassel and Leilia entered the gathering of vassals and retainers. Under the soft yellow lights, Leilia walked slowly in. She had gone to great lengths to decorate the party hall in the hopes that Cassel would like it.

“It looks very different.”

“I put some thought into it. It’s the Duke’s residence, after all, so it needs to look nice.”

Cassel smiled at her comment.

“You have an exceptional eye for beauty, Leilia. The necklace you gave me was beautiful.”

He referred to the necklace she had gifted him as an example.

“Thank you all for coming.”

Leilia addressed the gathering, and the vassals and retainers bowed their heads. The long-serving vassals of the Balkan region, who had once served the previous duke, and the new retainers Cassel had brought with him seemed to have mingled enough that the earlier awkwardness had faded.

“Now, we’ll hear a congratulatory speech from Lucis.”

At Cassel’s words, Lucis, who had been standing in a corner of the banquet, stepped forward.

“Your Highness, this wasn’t planned.”

“You’re perfect for it.”

“Well then.”

Despite being unprepared, Lucis delivered the speech smoothly without hesitation.

“Congratulations on the completion. The leader of the Hyllan Merchants Association is also very pleased.”

“Is that all?”

“That’s all.”

Lucis’s response made everyone laugh.

When the music began to play, Leilia and Cassel started to dance. Once they did, others followed suit, and the party officially began.

As Cassel and Leilia strolled around the banquet hall, enjoying the delicious food, sweet wine, and the soft fragrance that filled the air, they spoke with most of the invited guests before seeking out Lucis.

“Is everything going smoothly?”

They hadn’t yet revealed the existence of the magic stone to the public since it required approval and verification from the Mage Association first. Given the high value of the stone and the many false claims surrounding it, the Mage Association needed to oversee the process directly.

Cassel nodded at Lucis’s response.

“It would be nice if they could come a little sooner.”

Leilia murmured, a hint of disappointment in her voice.

Lucis simply shrugged.

“This is as fast as they can manage.”

“I suppose.”

Lucis smiled at her formal tone.

“Why not just reveal your identity?”

“Not yet.”

Even though they told her to openly live as the leader of the Hyllan Merchants Association, Leilia still shook her head.

Cassel quietly watched her as soft music began playing again.

“Hmm.”

He lingered by Leilia’s side until Calia and Zen called him over, forcing him to go. He hesitated, clearly reluctant, but at the urging of his subordinates, he finally walked over.

Lucis, watching the scene unfold, couldn’t help but smirk.

“Why are you smiling like that?”

“What’s wrong with my smile?”

“It looks like you’re scheming something.”

“It’s nothing like that.”

Lucis replied, but he seized the opportunity to speak with Leilia. There might be very few moments in the future when Cassel wouldn’t be by her side.

“By the way, His Highness Cassel… I think he’s in love with you, Lady Leilia.”

“What… what did you just say?”

Leilia, who was rarely flustered, nearly spilled her drink in surprise.
