Chapter 23.2
Leshulean clenched his fist.
At the sight of him, Chelias raised his teacup to his lips and quenched his thirst. The Chancellor, who usually agreed with the Emperor’s words, remained silent today.
“Say something, Chancellor!”
In the end, in his frustration, he sought out the Chancellor. Chelias looked at him silently, then smiled.
“I think we lost.”
“What did you say?”
“It’s not like Lady Leilia was having an affair, right? She didn’t even stop writing letters to His Highness Cassel. She played the role of a wife more faithfully than anyone.”
Leshulean also fell silent at those words.
Chelias was right. To divorce Leilia and Cassel, they needed a legitimate reason. However, there was no clear justification for him to use.
“Your Majesty, His Highness Cassel and his wife have arrived.”
“Let them in.”
As the door opened the next moment, Cassel and Leilia entered.
They greeted Leshulean upon seeing him, and Leshulean sent them a sharp glance. His golden attire shimmered under the lights. A blue butterfly dangled from his robe as if it were about to take flight at any moment. It was an accessory similar to what was attached to Cassel’s clothes.
“Why have you come?”
“I’ve come to tell you something.”
Cassel uttered as he stepped forward, and Leshulean crossed his arms.
“Let’s hear it.”
“Your Majesty, I won’t divorce.”
Cassel spoke firmly.
“Cassel!”
“I’m going to live with my wife, so please don’t spread rumors about the mistress anymore or do anything strange.”
Leilia’s eyes widened.
‘Oh, my God!’
Was he saying that the mistress was a rumor and the person who started the rumor was the Emperor?!
“Even after the rumors spread, my wife didn’t have an affair. She wrote me letters consistently, even to a husband known to be having an affair.”
Leshulean also had nothing to say.
He deliberately kept an eye on Leilia. He knew that she had received letters from Lisseltz and that other men had approached her, but she hadn’t met any other man except for going to meet Natale. Furthermore, although she occasionally met Lucis, Natale always accompanied her, so it was difficult to say that she was having an affair.
Despite thorough surveillance, she had truly lived an upright life within the confines of that monitoring.
This was something that Leshulean recognized.
“If I have to get a divorce, I’ll leave the imperial family.”
In the end, Cassel resorted to his last resort.
“You!”
“This is my intention.”
“Hahaha.”
Chelias laughed out loud.
“Your Majesty has lost.”
“Chancellor, shouldn’t you be on my side?”
“Well, there must be a rationale.”
In other words, he was implying that the Emperor’s words were without merit. When even Chelias came out like this, Leshulean played his trump card.
“All I can offer in the end is a shabby estate. If you come out like that, I have no choice but to do the same, do I?!”
If he didn’t yield to him, Cassel would be given shabby territory, which would weaken his power. This was to prevent the power dispute within the imperial family from spreading, and that seemed to be the conclusion made by the Emperor. Nevertheless, it would be difficult to live in a desolate place.
Leilia clenched her hand.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Cassel said so and pulled his wife to his side.
“All I need is Leilia.”
“Really!”
“I can take care of a shabby estate.”
He gave that answer.
“What’s so precious about a wife who didn’t even support you in the war, but only gave you a single necklace and a few letters?! Say you’d rather marry the head of the Hyllan Merchants Association!”
In the end, Leshulean lost his temper.
Leilia smiled quietly. The Emperor didn’t know that he had already married the head of the Hyllan Merchants Association and was making such statements.
‘What kind of expression will he make when the truth comes out later?’
“Your Majesty, why are you hiding the truth?”
When Leilia asked, Leshulean turned his gaze towards her.
“What?”
“It’s because Your Majesty spoke as if it never happened even though I’ve donated to the war from the living funds you gave me.”
Cassel tightened his grip on Lelia’s hand in response to her words. He must have been surprised, because he didn’t know this fact.
“With just that money?”
Leshulean was disregarding what she had done.
“That.”
Chelias glanced at Cassel, who was quietly furious before he finally unleashed a cold anger towards the Emperor.
“Seeing you disregard my wife’s sincerity, I can guess what kind of treatment Leilia received. Everyone, except for Seychelle, treated her like this.”
Then, Cassel gave him a cold stare as if there was nothing more to hear.
“All Your Majesty’s courtiers will be removed from the mansion. Even if you provide a new mansion, my wife and I will handle the hiring of the staff ourselves, so please don’t get involved.”
