Chapter 15.2

It was his very first kiss, but thanks to the advice he had received from his seniors, he endeavored to make it feel natural and devoid of any awkwardness. Leilia had occupied his thoughts for so long that he had never embraced another woman.

Deep down, he knew one thing for certain that after holding her, he could never hold anyone but her.

He realized that.

“Leilia.”

Holding her in his arms, he couldn’t let go of the woman he had loved for a long time. Since it was her first time, he tried to consider her feelings and be gentle, though it wasn’t easy.

As he held her hand tightly, she shed tears while they were being intimate. He didn’t realize she was crying out of sadness.

“It’s warm.”

However, when he heard the unexpected response, he couldn’t help but think that she might not dislike this intimacy as much as he had anticipated.

At that moment,  all rationality disappeared.

Despite knowing that he should be considerate because it was her first time, he couldn’t do so.

As the time to go to the battlefield approached, he wanted to see her awake though he just decided to let her keep sleeping. If she looked at him with those enticing eyes, it would only ignite the desire within me again.

Then, he didn’t know if he’d want to leave this place then.

In the silence of the locked room, Cassel wrote a small note.

⎡ I will certainly come back. ⎦

It was a word of sincerity.

“Leilia.”

When he dies, she would naturally become the wife of a hero, and she’d be given substantial compensation from the imperial family. Wouldn’t that be better for her? Then, she’d be free and could be with the one she loved.

It seemed advantageous for her if he were to die on the battlefield.

‘…Still, I’ll definitely come back.’

Even if she hated him, he would stay by her side, even if it meant being a shallow and despised husband.

As he opened the door and came out, Chelias was already standing there.

“Are you leaving?”

His steps stopped at Chelias words.

“Perhaps another imperial figure will be in charge of the war budget.”

“Ah, that’s right.”

In this case, they may not receive proper supplies for the war.

“Please try to stay alive, nonetheless.”

Chelias sincerely uttered to Cassel.

“You know how to use magic, don’t you?”

Cassel’s prowess extended beyond his skill with a sword as he possessed the ability to harness the power of magic. However, during his time at the academy, he never showcased his magical abilities. There was no immediate necessity for him to do so, and the acquisition of magic stones, essential for spellcasting, incurred considerable expenses.

While he could have easily requested his patrons to procure the stones, he found the hassle involved in using magic to be more trouble than it was worth.

As a result, only a select few were aware of Cassel’s latent magical talent.

Nevertheless, Chelias knew it.

“Did you know that?”

“As I’ve said before, I’m very interested in Your Highness.”

Saying so, he laughed.

“Then, I’ll see Your Highness in a few years.”

Hearing Chelias’s last words, Cassel climbed into the carriage. As dawn broke, he clenched his fist tightly as he headed towards the battlefield accompanied by the knights’ escort.

It felt as though Leilia’s scent still seemed to linger on his body.

“Ha.”

He left her behind… but the next time he comes back, he’ll be able to fully possess her.

Unless he let her go, Leilia would remain his wife until his death.

Finished reminiscing, Cassel stood up.

…It seemed that he needed to expedite his return.

At the thought, he strongly conveyed his opinion to the Emperor.

4. Return

With her long brown hair neatly tied up, Leilia poured herself a cup of tea from the teapot before unfolding the newspaper. After unfolding the newspaper, she delved deeper into the newspaper, starting with the updates about Cassel.

He conveyed through a letter that it would be difficult to stay in contact due to preparations for his return. In addition, she was only able to gather information about his whereabouts through the updates that came from the guild.

With their arrival near the capital, the procession was on track to proceed as planned the following week.

According to other newspapers, the urgency surrounding Cassel’s return seemed to stem from a desire to showcase his magnificence.

In fact, Leilia’s curiosity was piqued by these reports, but she couldn’t uncover the exact reason behind the rush. The sudden announcement by the Emperor to advance Cassel’s return by a month sparked rumors of the Emperor’s autocratic insistence as the driving force behind the decision.

Upon Cassel’s return, all the newspapers wrote stories about him.

As the tea in the teapot ran out and she rang the bell, Seychelle came in. She silently took the teapot and went out to refill it.

‘Seychelle.’

Seychelle was the only one who followed her when she left Eloisa’s mansion, so Leilia’s sentiments for her were extremely strong.
