After I Sent the Divorce Letter, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 23
2. First Night
The carriage arrived at the imperial villa.
As the carriage pulled up to the villa on the outskirts of the capital, Cowell dismounted, followed by Leilia. At the front of the carriage stood a man. He was the Emperor of this empire, Leshulean Jen Roten, with his dark hair neatly tied back and red eyes.
Leilia bowed her head and greeted him.
“Are you Leilia Eloisa? You are very different from her sister.”
She had always heard people compare her to her sister so much that now, she was used to it. Leila smiled without panicking.
“How could I keep up with my sister’s beauty?”
At her words, the Emperor raised one corner of his mouth. He gazed at her as if trying to understand her for a moment before eventually nodding his head.
“Let’s come this way.”
There was no time to lose since Cassel was to march out tomorrow. As if she were about to say her vows, she was led by the knights into a room in the villa. Even here, she thoroughly moved with the knights who prevented her from rebelling.
Marriage vows in this atmosphere…
There was no way the marriage vows would be properly done.
‘Cassel.’
She wondered how he felt.
When she opened the door, she finally found the man she recognized.
“This is Leilia Eloisa.”
As Leilia bowed her head, Cassel bowed down as well.
“Nice to meet you.”
There was a difference in status compared to before. Even if he was illegitimate, he was a prince recognized by the Emperor, so she was polite to him.
“You’re the one who will be my wife.”
He still spoke sweetly and gently with the same affectionate gaze he gave her when he looked at her. However, there was also some darkness in his eyes at the same time.
“Give your vows.”
At the Emperor’s command, Cassel gave the vow to her.
Gazing at the wedding vows, Leilia clenched her fist before she wrote her name. She didn’t want to give Cassel the impression that she hesitated for a long time and then forced herself to write.
What was he thinking when he signed this document? Leilia stared at him while thinking about that. At the same time, he was also looking at her with serene eyes, so her heart started pounding while her cheeks were slightly flushed.
…With this, she would really become his wife.
‘He has a woman he loves.’
The marriage vows were literally marriage registrations. It was evident that he couldn’t make a marriage vow with the woman he loved… that was why his face was so dark.
Leilia ran a hand through her hair as she thought about it.
Even though her heart ached when I thought of his heart, on the one hand, there was a part of her that was happy to be his wife. As much as she’d like to dismiss it, she couldn’t help but admit it. The moment they drank and danced together, the feelings she’d felt then haunted her.
‘I am…’
I guess I’m a lot like my mother.
She was happy to be with the person she loved but also sad because she knew the future of not being loved by the person she loved.
Her mother said so, too.
‘Cassel.’
He doesn’t love her.
She knew that all too well.

Leshulean and Cowell had a drink after their wedding vows. As they poured drinks for her and Cassel, Leilia, too, thought she’d rather get drunk, so she drank the glass they offered her without rejecting it.
Of course, she couldn’t refuse a drink the Emperor offered her anyway.
“You have a truly beautiful daughter.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
“To give such a daughter to the prince.”
“It’s an honor for us.”
Between them, Cassel drank without saying a word while staring at her.
‘What’s wrong?’
As she thought that, Leilia quickly touched her face. Did she get something on her face?
“Your face is red, it seems like you’re drunk.”
Cassel, sensing it like a demon*, stood up and approached her. Although she drank because she wanted to get drunk, Leilia wanted to drink some more, but he took her hand first.

“Then, we’ll go up first.”
When he turned to Leshulean, he nodded and waved his hand.
“Yes, take care of your wife. Go ahead.”
After receiving the permission, Cassel took her hand and led the way, walking slowly. The clasped hands were hot.
Arriving in the small room, he opened the door and entered.
When the door was opened, the scent of perfume sailed towards them. It was a perfume usually worn by noblewomen on their wedding day and their first night with their husbands. The erotic scent stiffened Leilia involuntarily.
It seemed that her inner feelings of wanting him for a long time would be revealed. She was embarrassed.
“I’ll wash up first.”
