After I Died, He Died After Me Too - Chapter 24
Chapter 12.2
‘…Especially when talking to me, he seemed even more sensitive than usual. There were always thorns in his answer.’
“You’re always on guard as well. It’s the same thing.”
“I see.”
She couldn’t understand why, even though their meetings were so uncomfortable, he still chose to sit face-to-face and do nothing. Although she wondered if there was a reason for waiting, it seemed there wasn’t.
“I called you because I thought you might need this. You seem fine.”
Saying so, Dexter placed a glass jar on the table. Inside the small jar was a single pill.
“Ah!”
Seeing the vial, Bianca recalled what had happened the night before. She wanted to ask if he had ever come to her room and if it was the Crown Prince who had suppressed the awakening fever.
However, the words stuck in her throat and wouldn’t come out.
‘If it really was His Highness who suppressed the fever…’
Just the thought of it made her whole body stiffen. Feeling strongly that it would be best not to ask, she pressed her lips tightly together.
“Lady Astri, weren’t you going to ask me something?”
“It’s nothing.”
“By the way, it seems you made it through yesterday well. I guess you managed to endure it.”
Bianca flinched involuntarily. She had forgotten that she would face him.
She had lost consciousness after suffering through the night, and she had no memory of it. It was as if someone had carved away time. It would be difficult to maintain her sanity if something like that happened every day. Not knowing what she had done during the time she had no memory of was quite serious.
“…I don’t remember well, but it seems that’s what happened.”
“You really don’t know anything about being a Guide. Are you planning on not calling your family?”
‘… Don’t know?’
Bianca’s eyes darted at his words. Since she didn’t know much, she couldn’t even guess what she was missing.
“I was actually planning to call them tomorrow. Is that okay?”
“You can call them whenever you want. As long as you don’t leave this place, you can do whatever you wish.”
“Thank you.”
Why wouldn’t he let her leave this place? Just because she stayed at the Crown Prince’s palace didn’t mean she could hide her existence. There were eyes and ears here as well. Not everyone here was necessarily aligned with the Crown Prince.
‘Now that I think about it, I didn’t even ask when the official announcement will be made.’
Bianca was curious. She wondered why the Crown Prince wanted to keep her here. Even if it was to avoid others discovering that she was a Guide, it seemed excessive.
“May I ask why Your Highness the Crown Prince wants to keep me here?”
“Lady Astri, I believe I mentioned this before. I hate having others touch what’s mine.”
“It’s still possible even if I were to stay at the Count’s residence. If I refuse, isn’t it true that they can’t force me?”
Dexter stopped tapping the glass jar and gently lifted his gaze. When his crimson eyes were fully on her, Bianca felt a sudden tightness in her chest.
“I’m curious how you would refuse, considering how you cried and begged for my help while suffering from the awakening fever.”
In an instant, the atmosphere around them seemed to change. The strong pheromones suddenly tightened around her, making her heart race. In addition, her breathing quickened as her body responded.
“Lady Astri, I don’t think you realize how much your scent drives people crazy.”
Dexter stood up from his chair and moved closer to Bianca.
As the distance got closer, her breathing quickened. Her spine tingled to the point where she wanted to take back the confident words she had spoken. The strange sensation spreading from her toes through her body made her consciousness blurrier. Even though she gripped the hem of her dress tightly and tried to steady herself, it was of no use.
He effortlessly shattered her resolve. Though she didn’t want to believe it, the words asking for help almost slipped out in that brief moment.
“…Y-Your Highness.”
“Lady Astri, it seems I’ve been quite gentlemanly towards you. After using suppressants for five years, I guess I’m a bit more human compared to others.”
“I… don’t understand what you’re talking about. The, the pheromones…”
She wanted to ask him to lessen the pheromones he was releasing, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it in the end.
Bianca exhaled sharply and gripped the table tightly. The heat below made her feel as if her whole body was burning once again.
‘T-Tranquilizer.’
She hurriedly reached out to grab the pill bottle on the table. However, the bottle she expected to be there was nowhere in sight.
“Oh, are you looking for this?”
As Dexter gently shook the medicine bottle in his hand and asked, Bianca withdrew her hand from the table and reached out toward the bottle.
