Do you know why I find it strange? Because more than one person, on more than one occasion, told her to look for Joe… For her to give up going back to base and go to Joe, and people allied with the rebels.
I was even alerted when her own fiancé told her to look for Joe, and let's just say that this guy has everything to make us suspicious of him.
He seemed very unresponsive to me when he showed them their mother's diary with very serious family secrets. In exchange for Joe having something so serious on his hands that it could betray the entire rebel cause? How could she, who had all her steps supervised by senior management since her pregnancy, miss this diary and "ah, I found it while I was packing our mother's things".
I don't know about you, I thought it was really weird. It might be something the author might decide not to explore, but it would be interesting if he was a "traitor" too. In relation to her, of course.
And I'm not saying that because he's bad or something… Don't forget that he left the rebels to start a family… But from what I understand, their cause is like the mafia… You don't leave completely. They could have taken his family hostage or something. And between his family and Grace… I think we already know the answer. Of course, I'm just speculating. And I'll go far…
Another thing I've been thinking about… About the fact that Leon deliberately got Grace pregnant. You're going to hit me, but ironically I think he did it to prevent her from being killed when he decided with Davenport to release her so she could "reveal" the base and as a bonus find out that he wasn't lying when he said they were a bunch of traitors.
The baby was Grace's safeguard. For a few reasons: Grace was Davenport's daughter. And even though she was on the side of the rebels and was the daughter of a rebel, she was a noble TOO. And Leon himself had proof of how the rebels used tools to brainwash her. But the rebels didn't know that he had this trick up his sleeve… They didn't even know that he knew that she was Davenport's daughter.
So, he got her pregnant. The rebels couldn't kill her when she was pregnant by someone as high up as Leon. This would be VERY bad for them, especially when it comes to public opinion. Because Leon was going to say that they killed not only his son but also a pregnant woman. True BARBARIANS! And her being Davenport's daughter and being pregnant with Leon only reinforces this. So, the son kind of saves Grace's life, even though it was a horrible and crooked way.
Besides, maybe he predicted that she would try to commit suicide when she found out what they did to her. Maybe he hoped that the child would "stop" this impulse in her, through identification. Since she herself was the product of this horrible manipulation that she suffered from birth.

So I don't see how her brother could have persuaded her to leave. I will forever hate Leon for doing what he did to Grace but I cried this chapter bc I legitimately feel so bad for what she's gone through the whole time even with her parents and past. Everything makes so much more sense and seems that much more cruel. I thought it took very little time for her to hand over her comrades. For someone who has been brainwashed her entire life, she didn't hesitate to hand over the base because of Captain Leon's beautiful blue eyes. It was a poorly done process by the author.
It's okay for her to be angry. It's okay for her to be on the fence about the revolution. But does she deliver everything the next day? I found it strange. She spent months and months never doubting her companions even after all the torture she suffered, and then she read Mom's letter in which she said: Hm, that's right, I'm going to screw everything up! hahahaha!
As it's a dark romance, I don't see it as strange that she fell in love with Leon. We're not talking about the real world.
What I find strange is that she gave away the base so easily. She didn't talk live with her friends, there was no discussion, there was no fight… Just a very lukewarm phone conversation with her fiancé that didn't allow us to understand anything.
And strangest of all: how does an articulated movement like these rebels leave a woman who knows as much as she does? How come they don't watch her? Well, they sent Fred, who was completely unfit to be a spy… I don't know how they lasted so many years standing up to the monarchy…

I'm sorry but it seems like you are trying to treat the entire situation as one single entity when it's separate. It took little time for her because she had been brainwashed her whole life. Doubts had definitely run through her head when she was in captive and 'gaining freedom' broke the camel's back. She 'escapes' and all she gets is a harsh and lukewarm concern. Her mum's diary revealed the reality of the rebellion to her. A group of people who like the royals don't care about about everyone but just a few of themselves. They use woman, indoctrinate children and are just as discriminatory as the ones they are fighting against.
Shes not doing this for Leon, it was would be absurd to think so. And no she doesn't love him yet, or at least chooses him over her revenge on the rebellion and on him. She's doing this for herself who fell victim to their lies and for her mother and the other women she's sure probably exists. The rebellion isn't true enough for her to ignore what they did to her (discarded her like a rag they no longer wanted after years of complete loyalty and sacrifice). At most, this rebellion will fall and a better and perhaps more genuine one will come after.
As for the rebellion not monitoring her, she was never significant to them like she thought she was. They only thought she was self sacrificial to protect them till the end. And your comments on this speaks to the entire situation. The rebellion as a whole has never been authentic. It's just as power hungry as the royals, because if it weren't, why send someone like Fred right into one of the biggest enemy base? Why not rescue Grace even as an attempt? So they are just conceited people who never tried to get justice orderly or properly.

Not that's just very much idealistic. If they continued to deceive her by pretending to care or denying what they did, maybe, but they confirmed everything she had struggled to deny as real.
And much as Leon is still a terrible person, someone pointed out recently that he probably planned his actions this way, getting her pregnant etc to give her another purpose. He's also wanted to break get to a point where she intentionally depends on him. But Grace wasn't willing to let him win or the rebels.
The comparison to religion isn't the same unless all the person has been worshipping was a man or an animal.
And again, it's not just a wake up thing. She was in captivity for months and truths she couldn't confirmed kept coming in. She was never going to betray them until they told her themselves that all she had been denying as the truth was indeed the truth. That's the real trigger. Not Leon, not random but a decision she had at the back of her mind to take if everything she had tried to deny was indeed true.
And I do get what you are saying, I just think you should really consider she was tortured mentally for months, resisted, only to realize it was all true.

I’ve read the entire novel and everything will come back full circle as to why Leon behaved this way…cause he loves and hate Grace as she turned out to be an enemy not his young lover he knew..plus she did break his heart when they were kids.
Grace is actually not tortured in the chamber although the author wrote and made it sounded like that. She wrote it in Grace’s perception. Instead, Grace and Leon have a sexual attraction to each other ofc later they will both realize that they both have genuine feelings for one another as well like when they were young. During her “torture” in the chamber, she denies the pleasure and sees it as torture cause she hates Leon, but later she would soon realize that only Leon could be her lover and longs for the pleasure. And Leon is actually giving her pleasure as a lover do to one another instead of torturing her like a Camden Vampire does to rebels.
There’s so many things to appreciate in this novel that immature readers could never understand about. The author is being mistaken for being a psycho but, if anything she wrote a novel on the reality of a love relationship, rather that be toxicity, crazy, obsession, passionate, loving, etc. Towards the end of the novel, the author explores the passionate and innocent love Leon has for Grace after he grew from his obsessive, toxic, crazy, selfish love for Grace.
Therefore for all the kids complaining, please go read fairytale books and stop reading these SMUT novels.

I love the storyline. Many readers have expressed disdain for the ML and utterly despise him.In the literary world novels are generally refection of the society. Women and children are the ones who suffer the most in the war and conflict zones. Female spies are trained as honey trap, till date, in real life. If they are caught in the act by their enemies, they have to face insufferable consequences. This is the part and parcel of their line of work, which they are well aware of. This fact is a reality. If you abhor it then this story is not for you. But at least the author has added a human element to the ML unlike as in real world. The ML, in the process of humiliating the FL, goes far and beyond to make her experience mind blowing pleasure. He is often conflicted by his own actions and suffers anxiety because he is unable to conquer the FL's heart.
I also love the manhwa representation of this storyline. Would like to applaud the artist of this manhwa. The characters specially the lead one's perfectly fit the profile sketched by the author in the novel. To bring out myriad of emotions on the faces of ML and the FL as per the novel is just amazing. The ML looks has a aura and profile of a nazi commander and the FL as a spitfire. The Novel as it is riveting but this manhua has brought it beautifully to life graphically in such a manner that your are compelled to wait for the drop next episode. Kudos to the artist!!!

The novel is brilliant piece of psychological thriller. Never came across a deviant sadist ML who would go to any lengths to denigrate, defile the FL by using despicable sexual acts to psychologically break her down. And also imprisoning her by binding her in chains and literally treating her as a dog and at the same time having her act out as a prostitute only to be solely used and abused by him. The sexual acts are meant to demean and belittle and at the same time the FL revels in disgust, pain and pleasure due to it. (I kinda went numb while reading those scenes.They were very explicit and detailed.) Had it been in real life the person would have been broken beyond repair. But it was really astonishing to see her fighting back and her resolution to give him the same agony and despair that she goes through, was really refreshing to read. The mind games they play with each other will have you entertained till the end. It is a pure love/hate story in extremes between the ML idolises his father who was killed by the FL's mother whom she idolises. One can imagine the sparks flying between steadfast enemies. FL's disillusionment with two males in her life is very evident in the storyline, one is the perfect embodiment of pure(innocent) teenage lover who has turned into a monster as an adult and the the other who was her fiance who has sent her on a mission to entice the monster without an ioata of remorse. How could one come in terms with the fact that the philosophy, faith and ideals given to her in her upbringing ,to which she steadfastly imbibed into her life, was just a facade !!! But I came to read this novel disconnected from these conceptions. It’s like I turned off my feminist side to be able to read this and I just focused on the fact that he’s tall, blonde, hot, sexy… But it has nothing to do with mental torture. I need to applaud the author. Libenia has done some deep research on the characters of this web novel. The story is brilliantly written. I have read the novel till the event where they get married. Many of the readers have been very vocal to express their disgust and distaste for the ML. They just can't comprehend how the FL could end up with the ML in the end. I can understand after reading the novel, why the female actually falls in love with him after 3 years and 3 months of separation. It was not a easy road for both the characters with very complex psyche. There is an incident that changes the dynamics of their relationship. It makes them lean on each other with their vulnerabilities laid bare in front of each other and their inner feeling of how they feel for each other is out in the open. There is a lot of soul searching which is beautifully described in the novel. Not to worry- At this stage the FL is not in love with him. So readers you need to reach till that part to understand the whole situation.
