When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 142.2
Anais was taken aback by his use of sword energy to cut the food, but seeing Kylian’s composed expression, she quickly relaxed. She smiled back at him, mirroring his expression.
“Eat well, Kylian.”
“Yes, you too, Wife.”
He forced a smile as he swallowed his food. And so, their tense dinner came to an end.

Not long after Anais returned to her room in the Empress’s Palace, a letter arrived.
“It’s from His Majesty.”
[Wife, seeing as you have not yet returned to my chamber at this hour, I believe you will be spending the night at the Empress’s Palace once again tonight.
I hope that all your wishes are fulfilled, but it would be nice if, before you fall asleep or upon waking in the morning, you could think of me. Since you are with me in all my hours, I always miss you. I hope you have pleasant dreams.
The weary Kylian, who finds his chamber too cold.]
Anais smiled as she read the closing lines.
“What did he say?”
“Lilith.”
Lilith appeared suddenly. At first, he was in a male form, but as soon as his eyes met Anais’s, she returned to the familiar female form.
“He said he missed me.”
“How pitiable. He won’t be able to see you for the rest of the week.”
Lilith spoke in a mocking tone, though the words were seemingly casual.
“Why hasn’t Lewarren come to the palace yet?”
“Oh, I think he’s been a bit tired lately. He hasn’t been coming out of his room much and hasn’t been replying to my letters.”
“Really?”
“Well, he did respond to my recent letter. He said he’ll be visiting soon.”
Lilith knew that Lewarren still had his memories. While they were now becoming closer to other gods, they had been exchanging small talk.
“Goddess Roseraine seems to care for him quite a lot.”
“Haha, I thought that was odd too. But Lewarren is blindly devoted to her.”
“That’s true.”
Lewarren had always done well in fulfilling what Goddess Roseraine desired. She would often overlook his reclusive nature and the fact that he stayed in his room, unlike how she scolded other priests when they were lazy.
“Well then…”
“Hmm?”
“Shall we lie down now?”
“Yes.”
Anais headed toward the bed. She was preparing herself for the memories she would soon revisit. In that moment, she felt as if she had returned to the time when her energy was drained, when she was worn thin.
“Your Majesty knows. This is wrong.”
Anais disliked the idea of sacrificing living beings simply to stay alive. She didn’t want to live at such a cost, and it went against the fate she had accepted. She wanted Kylian to become a virtuous ruler, not a tyrant who would sacrifice lives carelessly.
It was hard for her to shake off the shock.
“Look. It’s like a monster.”
Soon, her mind drifted back to the time when she had her hair cut by the maids.
“Help me, Phileal.”
As she held her chopped hair and headed toward the Magic Tower.
“Say you’re sorry.”
She struggled to break free from Kylian, falling from the top of the tower in the process.
“Hah…!”
The shock of falling from the tower jolted Anais awake.
“Ugh…”
Tears spilled from Anais’s eyes as she whimpered in pain. Lilith pulled her into a hug in surprise.
“It’s okay. It’s all in the past. It won’t come back again.”
Lilith soothed her, patting her back gently. But Anais couldn’t calm down with Lilith’s reassurances. As she continued to cry, Lilith gave a bitter smile and said,
“I’ll call for Cypnos.”
And so, Lilith vanished for a moment. When she returned, she brought a groggy Kylian into the room.
“Ugh…”
“Anais?”
Kylian, still half asleep and unaware of what was happening, suddenly came to his senses when he noticed Anais crying.
“Why are you crying, Wife?”
In a panic, he forgot that he was barefoot and rushed over to pull Anais into his arms.
Still reeling from the dream’s effects, Anais felt a deep resentment toward Kylian’s panicked voice. She pushed him away and said,
“Don’t touch me.”
“Wife.”
Kylian’s heart sank as she rejected him.
“Leave me.”
When Anais shoved him away, Kylian felt as though he might lose his mind. What memory had she seen today that made her hate him so much?
“I hate Kylian so much.”
“I’m sorry, Wife. Did some past version of me cause you pain?”
Anais, still holding onto the anger, began to hit Kylian with her fists. But soon, she stopped.
It was then that she realized he was crying too.
“Why are you crying, Kylian? What have you done to deserve this?”
“I’m sorry. You can hate me if you want.”
Kylian’s tight hug made Anais feel suffocated.
“But you can’t leave me.”
Hearing the sadness in his voice, she was overcome with emotion and began to cry again.
