“I’ve copied the magic circle perfectly.”

Phileal followed Anais’s instructions, replicating the magic circle drawn on the floor. After investigating the magical and divine powers felt in the deepest part of the temple, he documented his new findings.

Duke Percival was busy repairing the gate.

“Shall we go to the village and do some more research on this?”

“Yeah.”

“Dad, let’s go to the village together.”

Anais spoke to Duke Percival, who was in a room that resembled an office. The Duke glanced at the gate, which still had a long way to go before it was repaired, and then replied to Anais with a gentle expression and tone.

“I’d like to finish this first.”

“Then Phileal and I will go to the village by ourselves. But aren’t you hungry?”

“I’m fine. It’s not even mealtime yet, so there’s no reason for me to be hungry.”

“Right. That’s how you are, Dad.”

Anais smiled, remembering that Duke Percival would only eat at designated times.

“I’ll bring back some lemon candy later.”

“Okay. Have a good trip.”

With Duke Percival’s kind words, Anais smiled happily as she headed to the village with Phileal.

It seemed the village’s population had increased slightly. The square was bustling with more people than last time.

“Anais.”

“Yeah?”

Phileal gently brushed a petal off Anais’s hair.

“So this is what it feels like when you do that.”

“What do you mean?”

“It feels really nice.”

As Phileal played with her hair with his fingers, he chuckled at her puzzled expression. He then naturally took her hand and led her along.

“Wouldn’t it be best to ask a soldier if you have questions?”

“That’s true, but someone who’s been in business longer than the soldiers would be better. Soldiers can be uncooperative unless they’re high-ranking nobles. How about that flower shop from last time?”

“That one is good too.”

In truth, Phileal was ready to agree with whatever she said. So, Anais and Phileal headed toward the flower shop they had visited together before. Then Phileal lightly tugged on her hand and asked,

“What will you do if the Emperor doesn’t believe you at all?”

“I’ll just wipe my hands clean of it and come back here to stay with you and Dad.”

“I shouldn’t have asked.”

“Why not?”

“Because it makes me feel like I’m creating false hope, and I don’t like that.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Anais laughed as she held tightly onto Phileal’s hand. He felt a conflicting desire for her to be happy while also hoping that the Emperor wouldn’t believe her words. Still, he had no intention of interfering.

After all, she had asked for his help. He would be there for her whenever she needed it. So, to shake off the bad hope he held, Phileal squeezed her hand and intentionally changed the subject to something she might find interesting.

“I think Duke Percival likes me.”

“Yes, it seems so. My dad is very selective about people, but he seems warm toward you.”

“Right?”

Anais also found that interesting. So far, she was the only one who had clicked well with Duke Percival. He had adjusted to her, while he didn’t show much tolerance for others.

“He says I have no rough edges.”

“My dad?”

“Yeah.”

“Now that you mention it, that might be true.”

Phileal smiled brightly and continued walking. Although he found the sun glaring down on him quite unpleasant, he couldn’t entirely hate it since the light seemed to illuminate Anais even more.

Her platinum hair, visible only to him, swayed in the breeze, releasing a delightful fragrance that surrounded him.

Before long, they arrived at the flower shop where they had come to buy amaryllis.

“Welcome! Oh, it’s you again. Come on in.”

An elderly woman greeted them with a smile.

Phileal momentarily let go of Anais’s hand, and she took the opportunity to ask the old woman something.

“I wanted to ask about the abandoned temple.”

“Oh, that place? It’s considered ominous, so no one goes there.”

“Why is it ominous?”

“There are bones that seem not to belong to the people of this island that keep appearing there.”

“How do you know?”

“There haven’t been any missing persons reported. The only one missing is someone from a year ago. Yet, unidentified bones are frequently found there, and their clothing looks somewhat noble…”

The old woman rolled her eyes as if recalling something and then continued.

“Oh, speaking of which, a woman claiming to be a saint came by the other day.”

“Excuse me?”

“She had deep golden hair and was wearing something like a white robe.”

“Have you seen anyone in a long brown-haired white priest’s robe?”

“That person also visited frequently. And there was someone who appeared to be a priest of death as well.”

Anais was surprised to hear such detailed information and widened her eyes. The old woman continued.

“Now that you mention it, those people bought flowers here, and they had a strange conversation.”

“What kind of conversation?”

“They talked about God’s manifestation. Since she claimed to be a saint, I assumed they were discussing the goddess Julias.”

At that moment, Anais realized that Lilith was trying to summon the God of Death into the world through her body, not goddess Julias.

When combining the magic circle that was gathering power and the intent to summon something, it became clear.

The God of Death was the only deity that had manifested only once, meaning it could only be forcibly summoned in such a way. Remembering how closely Lilith was tied to the High Priest of Death, it was evident that the god that was going to awaken was the God of Death.

And that God needed a vessel, which would undoubtedly be Lilith.

After all, Lilith was the saint chosen by the goddess Julias.
