We're in a Contract Marriage, But I've Imprinted - Chapter 214
If his love for her was due to the imprinting, what would happen if, later on, the imprint were to fade, like it did for her? She pushed the troubling thoughts aside, thinking of her own weakness.
“Ian.”
“Yes, Mel.”
“I think we should bring a healing wizard from the Magic Tower.”
“…Yes, that would be a good idea.”
“That’s enough.”
Seeing his expression, Melissa shook her head as if telling him not to push further.
“There’s nothing more foolish than abusing your own body. Don’t do that.”
“…Yes, if that’s what you want, I will follow.”
His blind obedience made Melissa feel strange. She stared at him for a moment, then turned to the children.
“Please stay with them for a while. I’ll be right back.”
“…Alright.”
Ian answered, unable to hide his disappointment. He cherished the time spent with her more than any immediate healing. But if Melissa wanted it, he would follow.
She vanished in an instant. Ian, while watching Adella and Diers happily playing, couldn’t help but notice his own twisted leg.
“…Will she be scared?”
He had never worried about others’ feelings before, but now, after Melissa, he was concerned that Adella might find him difficult. Hesitating, he carefully stood up and limped toward the children.
As he approached, Adella suddenly turned her head. She looked up at him with big, round eyes. After a brief moment, Ian lowered himself and sat beside her.
“Della.”
“…”
At his call, Adella stared silently while sucking her finger. Ian cautiously reached out and pressed her chubby cheek. The soft texture, even softer than pudding, made his eyes widen.
“I want to do it too!”
Diers, who had been quietly watching from the side, poked Adella’s cheek with his small finger.
“So soft!”
Diers didn’t stop there but continued to poke Adella’s cheek.
“Huu.”
When he saw Adella starting to pout, Ian quickly stopped Diers
“I think Della doesn’t like it, Dia. Let’s stop.”
“Okay! Della, I’m sorry.”
“Huwaaa!”
But it was too late, and Adella burst into tears. Flustered, Ian quickly picked her up, just like he had done with Diers
“Waaah!”
Not recognizing him as a familiar figure, Adella squirmed and resisted. The difference in her reaction compared to Diers made Ian’s back break out in a cold sweat.
“Della, it’s Daddy. It’s okay.”
“Yeah, it’s Daddy.”
Diers patted Adella’s back gently with his little hand, but Adella’s face turned bright red as she cried.
Ian panicked and unsure of what to do. He tried to comfort her in an awkward position while debating whether to put her down because she seemed startled by his face. Still, he couldn’t leave her like this, so he continued to soothe her.
Sweat dripped from his forehead to his chin. In his moment of panic, a voice of salvation came from behind him.
“Why are you crying, Della?”
Hearing Melissa’s voice, Ian felt his strength drain away. With a pale face, he quickly handed Adella over to her.
Once the child was back in her mother’s arms, her crying gradually subsided. Ian, exhausted from the brief moment, didn’t even notice the presence of the guest.
“Hmm, more than I expected…”
After hearing the unfamiliar voice, Ian finally looked up.
“It’s better?”
Sarah said, smiling brightly.
Sarah was a wizard capable of healing magic. This was the key reason she could become the deputy master of the Magic Tower.
“Let me introduce myself properly. I’m Sarah, the deputy master of the Magic Tower. I believe we’ve met before?”
“Yes, I remember. It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Ian von Bryant.”
“Della.”
“Kyaa, yaa!”
Adella, who had completely stopped crying, smiled brightly and waved her arms towards Sarah.
“You’ve met your brother.”
Sarah gave a curious glance at Diers, who was watching them intently, and smiled.
“Seeing you together like this, you really do look alike.”
“Because they’re me and Melissa’s child.”
Ian quickly added to Sarah’s words. At his attitude, Sarah smiled to herself. Even when she saw him at the Magic Tower, it was clear that this Alpha genuinely loved Melissa.
Although she didn’t know the whole story, from what she could see, Sarah wanted to support Melissa.
She had a slightly different perspective from Lucia, who hated Alphas with a clear reason. While not defending Alphas, Sarah didn’t think it was necessary to live in hatred for the whole group.
Like Olivia, Sarah prioritized her personal achievements, she reminded herself of her purpose in being here and spoke.
“Shall we proceed with the treatment?”
“…Yes, of course.”
Ian felt nervous after meeting a healing wizard. What if even a healing wizard couldn’t fix him?
Personally, he had come to accept his injuries. He knew it wasn’t the proper way, but he still wanted to atone to her in whatever way he could.
However, when he thought of Melissa and the children, who had cried after seeing his injuries, he realized he couldn’t stay like this.
“Mel, could you please look after the children for a moment?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Deputy Master, please come this way.”
“Alright.”
Ian moved to another room, considering that the children might be frightened. Once inside, he guided Sarah to the sofa.
“Please sit here.”
“I need to stand to perform the healing. You sit, Duke.”
“…Alright.”
As soon as he sat on the sofa, Sarah approached him and placed her hand over his head. Instantly, a warm energy began to flow through his body. Ian closed his eyes, feeling the unfamiliar sensation.
“Hmm.”
Sarah tilted her head slightly. The burn marks and minor scars had all been healed, but the twisted bones in his leg had shown no change at all.
