I suddenly remembered the tea party at Marquisate Ovando. I thought it was strange then, seeing Nicola and Lorena being openly disregarded just because they were Omegas. I wondered how they could stand it without any reaction….

But now, I think I understand. I, who was insensitive, had to experience it to realize it. To those whose self-esteem was already scraped to the bottom, such remarks were probably insignificant or perhaps they were too used to them to feel anything anymore.

“Huu…”

Strangely, today I felt particularly sluggish. My body kept drooping, and without thinking, I just lay down on the bed. The annex, where no one visited, was chillingly cold without a thick blanket.

I was tired, I closed my eyes for a moment, and it seemed like the sun had set and risen repeatedly. Each time, it appeared that the food on the table had changed, but I had no strength to eat.

The bread had turned hard again.

Perhaps I had been naively hoping despite knowing people’s deceit and cowardice. Did I want attention not just from Ian but from others as well?

I’ve just realized how greedy I actually was. Now, not knowing if I’m awake or dreaming.

Ian started to appear.

That shouldn’t be possible…

Ah, it’s just a dream then.

If it’s a dream, why not smile a bit? I grumbled about how even in dreams, he appears so realistically.

He was saying something, but my ears were deafened by the fever, and I couldn’t hear him. I felt so hot that I feared I might melt away, which frightened me.

Despite the daily chaos, I still wanted to live. Even though my future seemed like a predetermined hell, I wanted to live.

So, I had no choice but to wrap my arms around his neck to cool down. Hoping he wouldn’t leave me, hoping he would quench the heat till the end, I confided a secret.

Pressing my lips close to his neatly shaped ear, I revealed the rest of my heartfelt feelings.

Ah, even in a dream, it felt strangely relieving to laugh.

Now I understand why people suffer from unrequited love. Not being able to express your true feelings is indeed difficult.

Despite the overwhelming presence of his pheromones pressing down sharply, I felt an odd sense of happiness. Even seeing his face look angry at my true feelings made me strangely happy.

I couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably.

Ian couldn’t make any expression. He didn’t want to believe what the Omega beneath him had said.

It wasn’t the faint yet forceful pheromones that had drawn him here. He wasn’t concerned whether she was in her heat alone or not.

Or, to be honest, was he just using her heat as an excuse to lust after her body?

He stopped walking toward the annex, and occasionally, an intense craving would arise.

Regardless of whether he was disappointed in Melissa or not, his body seemed to act independently. That’s why he treated her more harshly. As if to ensure she wouldn’t come looking for him.

He thought over and over that this separation was the right thing. Yet he still hadn’t managed to tell her to leave. He had secured a mansion for her some time ago. Thinking today would be the day he’d finally send her away, he deliberately avoided looking towards the annex.

Only after causing an uproar did he finally think to send her away, feeling foolish about his delay.

Holding Melissa close in his arms, he whispered.

“…I told you not to imprint, Mel.”

The end had indeed come.

* * *

Ian didn’t hesitate. Without giving her time to compose herself, he made his announcement.

“Just as it was agreed in the contract, I am requesting a divorce.”

Melissa’s face looked shocked, but it was fleeting and quickly faded. She looked at him with a deep, settled expression.

“You have given birth to a dominant alpha, I will give you as much alimony as you want. Do you have an amount in mind?”

Thus, he meticulously hid his emotions and expression. He hoped that not only she but also he himself wouldn’t feel like he was being expelled.

Despite his question, she didn’t respond immediately. Her long, lush eyelashes slowly lifted as if pondering deeply. He couldn’t take his eyes off the purple eyes that held vivid emotions

So, he didn’t notice her hands trembling.

“…I imprinted on you.”

The words were brief, yet the statement was loaded with meaning.

And he already knew. He wanted to say that it was the imprinting that ultimately led to the end, but he couldn’t. It might be better for both of them not to know.

Ian was disappointed in Melissa, but he had never resented her. However, now he couldn’t help but feel resentment. He had pleaded with her to avoid imprinting.

“Should I care about that?”

His own voice sounded ice-cold to him. He was relieved by that. He thought it was better than trembling and showing fear.

“Can’t you consider it once again for the sake of our child?”

Melissa persisted unusually, pleadingly. Ian responded to her in his mind. The end for us was always predetermined anyway.

“Not yet… the child needs my pheromones. I heard that the child needs to smell the mother’s pheromones to grow up healthy, so—”

“Stop.”

He couldn’t bear to look at her pleading violet eyes any longer. He could no longer maintain eye contact or continue the conversation.

He just wanted to get away. He felt almost like he was fleeing, and there was nothing he could do.

“According to the contract, you shouldn’t have imprinted on me… You didn’t forget, did you?”

“……”

At his words, Melissa’s eyes dimmed again. It slowly flickered before they fell downward.

Her eyelashes fluttered like the wings of a butterfly. Ian couldn’t take his gaze away and snapped back to reality after hearing her parched voice.

“…Can you give me some pheromones for the last time?”

Thinking of it as a final farewell, he released his pheromones. He watched Melissa, who was unable to hide her ecstatic face at his scent.
