Chapter 11

—

That day, I snuck out of the count’s house without anyone’s permission. The Bryant Duchy, which I went to, was a much grander place than the County.

Rather than calling it a mansion, it would be more apt to call it a castle. I felt dizzy just looking at it from afar, so I couldn’t approach it quickly even though I ran frantically to this place.

I saw something faraway on a distant street corner. Still, the lucky thing was that I could tell that it was the carriage he was riding.

A black carriage appeared in the distance. The gold-lined carriage with solid wood grain borders was often seen visiting the County.

Recognizing that this is the carriage the only heir of the Duchy rides, I just jumped out.

At the time, I was so out of my mind that I didn’t realize how dangerous this was.

Seeing me waving my hand, the coachman hurriedly stopped the carriage, and soon an irritated voice poured over the top of my head.

“If you have lost your mind and want to die, just die on your own! Why are you blocking the road? Huh?”

“…I’m here to see Lord Ian.”

“Oho! He is not someone you can meet just because you want to meet him!”

The coachman, who had been yelling, turned his head at the sound of something knocking from inside. Opening the small window connected to the carriage, he looked down at me while bowing his head.

His eyebrows, which had been raised as high as possible, came down neatly, and he got out of the carriage with a puzzled look on his face and opened the carriage door.

“His Lordship is on board.”

The coachman, who had shouted rudely, treated me politely like any other person. However, I was in no mood to pay attention to that gap, so I hurriedly got into the carriage.

The interior of the spacious wagon was no different from the exterior. And I was able to meet Ian sitting in it with an elegant posture.

He showed no agitation, as if he knew I was coming. Instead, he asked in a calm voice.

“Would you like to fulfill the contract marriage?”

#02_I don’t want an illegitimate child

Ian was a very famous person. Even I, who only lived in the County, could know in detail what kind of person he was.

He was the Empire’s only dominant alpha, the youngest swordmaster, the only heir to the Empire’s only Duchy, and a man with excellent business skills.

The most famous thing other than that was his appearance. Although he had a cold appearance, he has more of an austere atmosphere.

His black hair, golden eyes, and pale skin, which was fair even while undergoing knight training, further highlighted his austere demeanor.

Although his eye shape was large, the tails of his eyes were long. Whenever he smiled once in a while, the tails of his eyes curve in a gentle line.

Then, not only Monica, but even the maids standing around would stare at him, entranced.

In addition, there was a beauty mark at the end of the red mouth that stretched coolly under his sharp nose.

Even though it was a very small dot, as if it had been poked with a fountain pen, there were times when it drew my attention and I often stared blankly at his lips.

If his appearance was elegant, his unique alpha physique was by far superior to most adult men.

Despite his height of over 190 cm, his well-groomed body perfectly made him great at all outfits.

Sometimes Monica would order several jackets and put them on him as if she was playing dolls with him.

I had heard that there were many people who kept him in check because he was an exceptionally handsome man among nobles.

If there was a flaw in this all-around perfect man, there was one.

His fastidious personality.

He was mysophobic, almost like an obsessive habit. He hated contact with other people and never took it lightly when someone were to enter his personal space.

I had seen quite a few of them standing still like a well-made statue and then suddenly disappearing.

Still, he seemed to be comfortable with Monica and Alex. Especially in front of Monica, he often smiled.

Even if he didn’t smile, I couldn’t help but notice how close he was to her when seeing his expression softened.

So, the Rosewood residence’s employees were chattering about when Ian would propose to their Miss.

If a man who was thorough and picky towards others only smiled in front of Monica, wouldn’t anyone mistake it that way?

It was so obvious to me that I couldn’t understand why he asked me to marry him.

Even if it’s more urgent to me right now.

Because if he needed an omega, he could take anyone as he pleases, whether it be a mistress or a surrogate.

Was there such a relationship that was very close to me?

Father called Mother every day. In other words, it was tantamount to saying that they did not live in the same space together.

An existence that needed to be called from outside, not someone who was living in the same space.

The equivalent of a mistress was my mother. Is that why she left like that? Because she can’t stand it anymore?

However, all omegas living in the Aerys Empire would be treated like that.

Would that make me give up?

Unable to know this, I asked him why he was talking about a contract marriage.

Ian was staring at me with a nonchalant face as usual.

“…You said you needed an heir. Then wouldn’t it be okay even if it wasn’t a contract marriage?”

His dark golden eyes shook lightly at my question. Soon, he gave an answer lightly, still with a nonchalant face. It was not an easy answer for me at all.

“Because I don’t wish to make my child an illegitimate child.”

Ironically, all alphas born through omegas who were not properly treated were basically illegitimate children.

Yes, if he had to pick where they were from, that was it.

No one has been able to pinpoint it. Most alphas born out of wedlock became high-ranking nobles.

Unlike omegas, who still live on the bottom, betas had no choice but to be generous with the alphas. Because alphas were superior to them.

I was speechless for a moment and only pursed my lips. I then asked the question that made me worry the whole time.
