Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 178
Chapter 89.2
Although I wanted to speak firmly and resolutely, my voice kept shaking like a fool. My eyes also became warm. What I experienced in the old sanctuary was pure terror for me, and it was enough to dissipate any trace of goodwill I had harbored toward Raniero.
Seraphina silently looked at me with a complex expression. Instead of responding, she gently shook her head and walked towards the bookshelf. It was the bookshelf I first looked at when I woke up here, but I hastily removed my hand when Seraphina entered carrying food. Among them, she took out a book that wasn’t a doctrinal one, though that book seemed a bit suspicious.
The cover and the first several pages were intact, but from the next page onward, it had been cut into a rectangle with several centimeters of margin on all sides. It seemed like the book had been cut to create a small box.
Seraphina had placed another book inside that box.
She carefully took out that book from the box before approaching me cautiously. I reflexively flinched, but she showed that she had no intention to harm me as she raised both hands and gently placed them on her lap.
“I tried to discard this book, but I couldn’t. Whether I left it alone, tore it, or burned it, it somehow found its way into my room at some point. It was like a stigma.”
Her calm explanation continued.
While the book looked worn, its cover was made of vivid purple leather. The discordance of the color sent a chill down my spine. Such a hue would be difficult to find in this world, and even if leather were dyed, it wouldn’t maintain its beauty for such a long time.
I unfolded the book with trembling hands.
I could tell the moment I opened it that this was a perfect match for the page that fell off the bookshelf from the old sanctuary that Eden had found. It was filled with the forbidden magic that Eden had desperately sought when we first met.
I was so despondent that I let out a hollow laugh.
‘Eden, there was no need to go to such lengths and waste so much effort to reclaim the ancient sanctuary… He could’ve just searched the Saintess’s room.’
As I turned the pages of the book, I glanced at Seraphina.
“So, does this book explain why you didn’t kill him?”
Seeing her nod slowly with a little hesitation, I gestured as if to say, ‘Go ahead and try to explain.’
“To tell the story, a bit of explanation is needed.”
“…Please do so.”
I let out a deep sigh.
“This world was born from the breath of ‘Providence,’ and each god was born from the ‘dreams of Providence.’ Gods can’t directly exert their influence on the earth, but only the followers who follow the will of each god have shaped the world according to their teachings.”
Was this a dull mythological tale?
Feeling frustrated but lacking the strength to protest, I simply listened to Seraphina’s explanation as she persisted while absentmindedly fiddling with the old paper.
“The gods weren’t all born at the same time. Some gods are very ancient, while others are relatively new. One of the newly born gods is Actilla.”
She continued her explanation in a quiet tone.
Regardless, how did she know about this myth? I’ve never read about it in the Imperial Library of Actilus.
“The ferocious Actilla knew no harmony. He didn’t know how to compromise his territory—he just closely connected with certain bloodlines, took control of the minds of the most talented children, and infused them with suggestions.”
That would be Actilla’s avatar.
“Then, that child, blessed by Actilla, would become a source of amusement for his god—endless wars, slaughter. Actilla wouldn’t stop until he brought about the destruction of the world.”
[ T/N: OMG THE STORY IS UNFOLDING MORE! Since Actilla is a ‘newer’ god, that explains the child-like screams and tantrums he threw at Raniero when he refused him earlier and how he ‘punished’ him, in addition to ‘taking control’ of Raniero’s mind and infusing him with the thoughts to make him as crazy as he is! ]
“So?”
“The gods decided to kill Actilla.”
I thought it was a boring story, but those words sent shivers down my spine. Subconsciously, I furrowed my brow.
“However, the process of killing a god is complicated. A God isn’t a being that can be killed physically as he only loses power when the believers disappear.”
I had a sense of what Seraphina’s words meant.
A God dies only when they lose their followers. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Actilla faith centers around only one successor. Infinite power and endless victories prove Actilla’s blessing. If such a being were to be defeated, the Actilla’s faith would inevitably crumble.
…Therefore, it meant that in order to attempt the murder of Actilla, one must kill the successor of Actilla.
All of a sudden, the wounds on Raniero, who had advanced at a monstrous speed, came to my mind, and I murmured as if in a trance.
“But there was no way to kill Actilla’s avatar, who was strongly connected to Actilla. He’s too powerful…”
Seraphina nodded her head sadly.
“One of the gods had to negotiate with Providence and obtain a weapon for a price. That was the only way.”
As the story progressed, I began to have an idea of what the weapon was.
“The Saintess of Tunia.”
