Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 174
Chapter 87.2
For some reason, he seemed to have noticed the presence of the sanctuary of the saint inside. After opening a small door on the opposite side of the prayer room, he sat me down on a neatly arranged bed.
The priest looked at me with a gaze filled with longing for something. It was clear what he was searching for.
I forced a smile and uttered.
“In the old sanctuary… Seraphina and Eden are both alive.”
I wasn’t sure if they would be curious about the story of Eden. It became quite evident that a wall had risen between Eden and the other priests after the plan to mobilize the paladins was rejected. However, I pretended not to know and slipped into his story as well.
“But if you delay, Eden might die.”
“What about the Saint?”
The priest asked, his eyelashes fluttering.
These deceivers. They only have the concern for Seraphina but no mercy for worrying about Eden?
Still, I answered calmly.
“She’s unharmed.”
The priest’s face blossomed with color. He rushed out of the room immediately to inform the Archbishop of the good news, leaving only Raniero and me in this confined space.
As Raniero, who had been standing quietly beside the bed, sat down in front of it, I was startled and instinctively moved back.
“Eden.”
A low voice called his name.
My hand began to tremble slightly, and I tightly held one hand with the other. Even so, it was impossible to conceal my nervousness.
“He seems to be quite important to you.”
His voice had suddenly become as smooth as it had been in the Imperial Palace. Nevertheless, within it, I could subtly sense the presence of hidden thorns.
I couldn’t say anything.
I averted my gaze from him and only stared at my fingertips. It felt as if I looked away, something very bad might happen.
“I didn’t try to kill you.”
As he said that, he pulled on my injured ankle. I clutched the blanket tightly as the pain felt like my entire leg was about to be crushed. My whole body shuddered, and a sobbing sound involuntarily escaped my mouth.
Raniero pulled out the arrow that was still piercing my ankle.
“Aahhhh!“
I screamed at the top of my lungs.
“Heuk, huuuu…”
Tears streamed down my face. Gasping, I collapsed flat onto Seraphina’s bed, but he didn’t release my ankle. Even after pulling out the arrow, he continued to hold onto it.
“I-I was wrong. I was wrong. Please don’t hurt me, please. I was wrong.”
If he was going to kill me, I wished he would do it quickly. As if lightning had struck the wound, the pain surged through the injured area every few seconds. It felt like my entire brain was burning.
“Please kill me… Please kill me quickly.”
I rambled incoherently, having lost my composure. However, Raniero didn’t immediately cut off my head right away. He just remained silent, as if lost in thought, and then asked quietly.
“Why did you run away from me?”
“I’m sorry…”
“Because you’re afraid? I’ve heard it would be like that. Is that the only reason? The day you’re not afraid of me is a day that will never come.”
“Please…”
“You fear my birth, and the blessing I’ve received…”
Soon, he grabbed my calf as well.
My breath stopped for a moment.
‘No…’
“To prevent you from running away like that.”
As if he intended to twist my injured leg, his grip tightened. I couldn’t think anymore, and my arms writhed involuntarily, doing everything I could to move a few more centimeters away from him.
I could feel him sitting still, holding onto my leg.
Was he staring at my back with the same vacant eyes as before? Or was he mocking me, having tried to escape but caught in his grasp?
A laughter, light as the wind, echoed.
He released my ankle. I couldn’t even lift the leg and bring it towards me, so I just hung it down and cried. The next moment, the bed creaked, and a shadow cast over behind me. The tears that had been flowing ceaselessly stopped. I stiffened my body and lay flat as Raniero, who had climbed onto the bed, pressed his upper body against my back and whispered in my ear.
“You asked for me to kill you… I have no intention of killing you.”
He stroked my hair.
“To be honest, I wanted to kill him.”
…By ‘him,’ he must be referring to Eden.
I felt my breath catch.
“But I didn’t kill him. Isn’t that enough? You know me well enough to know that I would’ve killed him, but I didn’t. I restrained myself. I thought it would scare you more…”
As he pressed his lips firmly against my ear, my body now trembled reflexively every time he touched me. Though soon, the lips that had been sliding down to the nape of my neck slowly fell away.
He asked as if unable to comprehend.
“I said I wouldn’t kill you, so why are you afraid?”
After those words, my consciousness faded.
