Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 169
Chapter 85.1
It seemed as if the wind was chewing my skin as the cold struck me with a force that seemed to separate bone from flesh. My hand that gripped the bow froze red, but I firmly planted my feet on the ground, gazing straight at Raniero.
I thought he might lose his temper and draw his sword to attack me.
However, he only aimed an arrow at me from a distance. Looking at it this way, he seemed quite composed. If someone who didn’t know him saw him, they might have thought it was a blessing. Nonetheless, having lived in close quarters with him for half a year, I could tell that Raniero Actilus had returned. He was in a completely irrational state.
From a distance of a few dozen paces away, it felt like I could almost touch the anger and betrayal emanating from him. My body trembled uncontrollably. It was too frightening. I wished that time could stand still while we stood face to face like this.
It was too hard to move on to the next moment.
I was once again reminded of how small and fearful I was.
The reason why I had no choice but to run away was vividly engraved in my mind. No matter how generous he treated me, he could change, like flipping the back of his hand the moment he got bored. Although I could rely on him to some extent, I couldn’t trust him until the end.
‘I’m so scared.’
Tears welled up in my eyes.
I wanted to kneel down right now and apologize for my wrongdoings, to kiss him and tell him that I loved him, and to plead with him to return to the palace together. I wanted to wrap up this incident as a brief escapade and put an end to it. Nevertheless, dreaming such a thing while facing someone aiming a bow at me would be too extravagant.
I tried to hold back tears.
It was because the moment tears spilled, it felt like my trembling legs would collapse completely.
I stood tall, aiming an arrow at him, making sure his gaze was solely on me. The negative emotions were lumped together around Raniero’s eyes and mouth. If there were a temperature in his gaze, my skin would have scorched and turned into a mess as all his senses were alert and directed toward me.
I became uncomfortably sensitive.
It was around the time when I felt I had reached my limit.
Please… now.
As if responding to my whisper, suddenly, a pitch-blank figure emerged from Ranieo’s side. The sword in Eden’s hand gleamed brilliantly like the stars.
Startled, Seraphina let out a sharp scream.
From then on, everything seemed to unfold in slow motion before my eyes. Even the renowned Raniero failed to realize that Eden was lurking nearby because of his intense focus on me.
As I stood in front of him, receiving his intense emotions, Eden silently scurried away into the shadows, searching for an opportunity. We decided to exploit the fact that Raniero would likely be very angry. His destination was me, whether he planned to kill me in a gruesome manner or make me suffer while alive. He would rampage like a horse freed from its bridle, and he would only have eyes for me.
I just knew.
If I were to aim an arrow at him, he would find it amusing and ridiculous that he would focus only on me. Then, taking advantage of his concentration directed towards me, Eden would leap in. While his individual abilities might not match up to Raniero’s, there was a chance that he could exploit a brief opening.
The prediction fell nicely into place.
The renowned Raniero Actilus exposed himself defenselessly.
Eden, who had been drawing his sword, plunged it into that opening unhesitatingly and swung his sword. As Raniero dropped his bow, Eden pulled out the dagger that had been lodged in his thigh and stabbed him once again.
Seraphina watched them with eyes filled with horror.
As the golden strands of hair slowly cascaded down, it felt as if blood was coursing through my cold body.
I didn’t know exactly how I felt.
A sense of relief that I could finally escape… a joy that I no longer have to be afraid. And underneath it all laid a subtle sadness, unnoticed unless you’re really tuned into your senses. Just like squeezing out paint haphazardly onto paper and then folding and unfolding it, emotions of various hues surged unpredictably.
I slumped down suddenly as my ankle throbbed abruptly.
Trembling, I glanced down to see that there was an arrow embedded in there.
It was the arrow that flew and struck me when Raniero had let down his guard. It wasn’t until I saw the blood spreading all over my clothes that the pain hit me. I gritted my teeth and clenched the arrow shaft. Still, I couldn’t bring myself to pull the arrow out. I knew how painful it would be to remove the embedded arrowhead.
Instead, I broke the arrow shaft.
Eden rushed toward me. I tried to stand, but inadvertently, I put strength to my injured leg and fell forward again. I heard Eden mutter a short curse above me, his impatience evident. Seemingly deciding there was no other way, he simply picked me up and embraced me, and I clutched his shoulders, screaming in pain.
He hurriedly brought us into the old sanctuary. The sound of his breath against my ear was harsh.
I looked at Raniero over my shoulder. He was on his knees, blood trickling, and he was staring in my direction from a distance.
It was a sight I had never imagined.
Our eyes met.
