Try Begging - Chapter 162.1
“It really turned out well for you, considering you liked my appearance. I just hope you didn’t inherit my temper.”
It’s none of your business! I’m leaving here. I’m shedding all my past, including you and your child.
She wanted to shout, but no sound came out.
“By the way, the crib surprisingly suits the torture chamber.”
Torture chamber?
Startled by his words, Grace finally shifted her gaze from the man to her surroundings. Black ceilings, walls embedded with menacing shackles and cuffs, and a metal table whose edges gleamed sharply under the light.
‘…What is happening?’
She was in the torture chamber.
Grace moved her limbs and sighed at the cruelly familiar sound and weight. She was shackled, chained, and tied to the single bed of the torture chamber.
“When did this… Untie me! Let me go! Huh? Please!”
She even pleaded, but the man only tended to the continuously crying baby, ignoring Grace completely.
“This is not what you promised! You said you won’t lock me up anymore.”
“That promise was only valid if you returned willingly.”
“When did you ever say that?”
‘Go to hell, you vile…’
“B*s…tard… gasp!”
Grace suddenly opened her eyes.
The sight of palm tree-patterned wallpaper filled her vision, bringing a sigh of relief. She was in her apartment, not a torture chamber.
Even after realizing she was safe, she scanned the room anxiously. Fortunately, or perhaps unsurprisingly, the man was nowhere to be seen. It took her a while to calm the breath that had filled her to the brim.
“That d*mn b*stard, even in my dreams…”
The nightmare had been so intense that her pajamas were soaked.
Grace brushed the sweat-soaked hair from her forehead and glanced down. The baby was still crying in the crib. Grace looked at the crib, its edges wrapped in white fabric, obscuring any view of the baby inside.
She slowly got up.
She had felt much lighter after a deep sleep. After giving birth, her whole body felt throbbing as if she had been hit the night before.
Approaching the crib, she peered inside and asked.
“Why are you like this?”
She wondered as the baby, having slept deeply through the night, now seemed to have regained her strength, kicking her legs and crying at the top of her lungs. Although she checked the diaper, it wasn’t wet.
‘It must be feeding time.’
Grace went to the kitchen and prepared a bottle of formula. She took the crying child from the crib to a comfortable chair by the window. Instead of holding her, she laid her on her thighs, slightly propping her head to give her the bottle.
“No… What’s wrong now? What’s the matter?”
The baby spat out the nipple and refused to suck it. She furiously kicked her legs and waved her arms, his face turning red with frustration from hunger.
“Sorry, I’m late. Stop fussing and eat, okay?”
Hoping she would eat if she calmed her down, she took the bottle away and tried to soothe her, but to no avail. Finally, feeling desperate, she reluctantly tried something she had hoped not to do.
“Oh… you really make me laugh.”
Grace looked down at the baby, who quieted down as soon as she put her to her breast and let out a resigned sigh.
“There’s barely anything there…”
Last night, she had breastfed reluctantly, under the watchful eye of the midwife. However, the milk was barely flowing, and she didn’t enjoy the feeling. That was why she had prepared the formula, thinking it would be mutually beneficial…
“You’re already so fussy.”
Behind her, the faint sound of waves could be heard, and in her arms, the baby eagerly sucked. The noise of the small lips pulling at her breast filled the room. As Grace observed her baby, she sighed deeply.
“Why are you so tiny?”
Compared to the weight that had pressed down on her in her belly, the baby was incredibly small and light.
Grace held the tiny life, sucking eagerly at her chest with more tenderness.
“You haven’t done anything wrong.”
Being born wasn’t a sin. Birth was always at the will of others.
If there were any sins, it belonged to the man who fathered this child for selfish reasons, to herself for getting caught up in crime, and to those who deceived her into participating in that crime. Thus, Grace distancing herself from this child was not due to hatred for the child but out of regret.
