Toxic Marriage - Chapter 16.2
Chapter 16.2
***
After returning to her room, Freya asked the maid to call Erik.
He had been struggling for a while with the meal preparations she had requested, so she thought he might explode if she were to also ask for a tailor today.
So while Erik was on his way there, Freya pondered how to coax him. She had been a little shameless so far, so it wouldn’t hurt to pretend to be a little pitiful and depressed again. It seemed to work better for Erik.
Besides, if she added that it was really the last request, even if he opened his eyes wide, he would listen to her in the end.
“Lady, I’m coming in.”
Erik’s voice was finally heard outside the door. When he was granted permission to enter and the door opened, Freya immediately tried to get to the point.
As she had experienced, it was easier to shock Erik by getting straight to the point than to beat around the bush.
“Master is looking for you.”
But before Freya could speak, Erik struck her down.
Freya, who was about to tell him to call a tailor and give him a long list of reasons why she needed to have new clothes made, was left speechless.
Why did he want to see her this time?
Freya frowned, forgetting what she wanted to say about the tailor.
“Does he want to have dinner together again? I guess he’s lonelier than I thought. He’s the same age as my grandfather’s grandfather, but he can’t even eat alone.”
“He didn’t call you for a meal.”
That was just as unsettling.
“Then?”
“He wants to play chess with you.”
Erik moved his eyes around. He would move his eyes like that when he was embarrassed.
“Does the loser have to sacrifice their life?”
“What in the world do you think of my master…!”
A madman who was willing to sacrifice his own child.
But Freya did not say anything out loud, considering what that attendant might tell his master.
Instead, she pointed out his expression.
“It looked like you were hiding something.”
“What…? Haha, when did I…”
“…”
“Ha… Ha… Though it’s true…”
As Freya looked at him with disapproval, Erik, unable to overcome the pressure, confessed.
“It’s not that, it’s just that I’m not sure what he means either. Master rarely plays chess with other people, but he suddenly wants to play with Lady Freya…”
“Alright.”
In the end, it meant that he also thought this situation was strange, but he didn’t know why.
“You know how to play chess, right?”
Freya let out a sigh at Erik’s question.
“A little.”

The top of the castle, the tallest spire, had a much better view than Fenrir’s office.
Leaning against the window, Fenrir looked at the people, tiny like ants, moving around. Since his eyesight was much better than that of ordinary people, he could see quite a lot.
Among those people, the shiny top of someone’s head caught his attention. A small figure who shone as if she were the only noble being in this faraway place.
Next to her was her escort knight. The only person Freya Lindberg had brought with her.
Just as he was leisurely capturing them with his eyes, a dog came chasing them from a distance, revealing its teeth.
The loyal escort knight has his arm bitten instead to protect his master. He couldn’t hear anything, but he could roughly infer it from what he could see.
Freya’s gaze did not turn away from the knight.
A worried face. Fenrir squinted his eyes slightly as if to focus on her face.
The situation ended with the knight tearing his clothes and wrapping his arm.
The two people disappeared from sight, but Fenrir’s eyes remained fixed on the place where the commotion had occurred.
He didn’t like it. Was it because they were trying to use the divine power his child would inherit on a mere escort knight?
Fenrir, who was glancing at the spot where Risyr had been, turned away from the window.
