Toxic Marriage - Chapter 13.1
Chapter 13.1
The next time he spoke was after the maid had cleared away all the food and put warm tea on the table.
“Are you full?”
“Yes, thanks to you,” Freya sharply replied.
Why was he asking her so calmly when he forced her to eat?
The nape of her neck still felt hot as she recalled the feverish sensation from a little while ago, but Freya turned her head to hide her condition. There was no need to reveal what she was embarrassed about in the first place.
However, after going through something so dangerous, even the clear tea in front of her no longer looked normal.
After examining what was in the tea, Fenrir picked up his teacup first, and Freya followed him and took a sip of tea, feeling relieved. The moderately warm and fragrant tea was a nice dessert to the oily meal she had had after a long time.
But she couldn’t afford to enjoy dessert, so Freya held her breath and examined the man in front of her.
‘Since my acting seems to be done for anyway…’
Freya decided to stop pretending to be sick and instead use this time to her advantage.
She still knew very little about the Margrave, and she felt uncomfortable in his presence. She needed to know a little more if she was going to fight on equal terms with this man.
The problem was how to bring up the conversation. She felt that in order to do so, she had to first reveal her honest feelings.
“I think what my great-great grandmother did to you was wrong,” Freya said, placing the teacup down. “She should have offered the apple first, but you got the order wrong earlier. Even if I’ve never met her, it’s thanks to her that my family has been able to live well until now.”
There was no response from Fenrir, who had his eyes lowered while holding the teacup. He seemed to be ignoring her, or maybe he wasn’t listening at all.
Well, it wasn’t an apology that would be touching to a man who was obsessed with lifting the curse in the first place.
In that case, it might be better to talk about something a little more realistic.
“However, apart from feeling sorry, I still don’t think it’s right that I was forced to come here.”
“If it’s not right, do you want to run away?”
Freya’s heart thumped when he finally opened his mouth.
She managed to hold onto her will and continue what she wanted to say.
“Can’t you break my great-great-grandmother’s curse with your power of evilness?”
Of course, if he could lift the curse with his power, he would have done it by now, but Freya didn’t really understand.
Her great-great-grandmother was an outstanding user of divine power, but his achievements had far exceeded hers.
As she stared quietly at his face, expecting him to answer her question, Fenrir opened his mouth.
“Even if the motive for the curse is insignificant anger, it’s not easy to break a curse made from concentrated thoughts. It sticks deeply enough as you desperately wish for the other person to regret that day and live an unhappy life.”
“…”
“So that’s why I’ve been living in this castle for over 100 years, neither dead nor alive.”
Freya swallowed dry at his dismal reply.
For Freya, who didn’t even know that a person who lived as a saint could cast curses, what her great-great-grandmother had done was even more shocking. It was truly something that had been done emotionally and carelessly.
Fenrir, who had kept his gaze down the entire time, slowly raised his eyes and turned to face her.
“Of course, it’s not all bad. If you spend a long time in this fortress where the fierce conflict never stops, you start to see things you couldn’t see before and hear things you couldn’t hear before.”
Dazed, Freya met Fenrir’s eyes.
‘What does that mean?’
Just then, he reached out to her. His fingertips pressed firmly against Freya’s forehead.
“It means that starting with this head…”
Fenrir’s fingers gradually traveled down Freya’s face, passing through her nose, lips, and neck, right down to the center of her chest.
As his fingertips touched her solar plexus, Freya’s heart began to beat louder.
Fenrir laughed as if she had noticed how nervous she was.
“…And even your heart, I can see everything.”
