“Uugh… Ethan.”

“Yes, it’s me. Can you see me?”

The blurry scene before her gradually started to come into focus as the gap closed. At last, the voice that had been hard to discern began to take shape.

“Yes… I can see…”

Only then did the ambient noise around her fully register.

“AAAAAARGH!”

“Didn’t I tell you that you shouldn’t bring humans here?!”

The cries of the child and the intermittent scolding were both severe.

“But, hiic, Reina…”

“No. Shouldn’t you know better? It’s precisely because she’s human that you shouldn’t bring her here.”

“Uwaaaah!”

Was that Carly and the grand duke present? When the thought lingered in her mind, Ethan spoke to Reina again.

“Reina, you can’t sleep right now.”

Why? She had that thought, but unfortunately, all that came out was a stubborn complaint.

“But… I’m sleepy. I want to sleep…”

Pushing out the voice that wouldn’t come, she closed her eyes again, and Benedict eventually let out a deep sigh.

“You have to stay awake until the scent fades from your body.”

Scent? What scent?

Her eyelids lifted more easily than before.

With inquisitive pupils, she looked towards the source of the voice.

There, she saw a tearful child and the grand duke, holding the child.

“Her power as a poison wielder is so strong that it didn’t go to the worst case.”

Ethan and Benedict had been saying incomprehensible things from earlier. Irritation began to well up in her.

She tried to give them a scathing look, but… well, that became too bothersome as well. Feeling like her body was about to give in under the bed, she mumbled in a low voice.

“Ethan… I’m sleepy…”

“Still, you can’t sleep. Talk to me, okay?”

His voice, not so much asking as pleading, tugged at her heartstrings. But she was so incredibly tired.

“Reina. You have to stay awake. So don’t close your eyes. Please.”

“Mmmh… But I’m so tired…”

After the barely audible muttering, she couldn’t remember much more. She did feel like she wanted to wipe away Ethan’s tears and… hold his hand tightly…

“Reina…!!”

“Ethan… Don’t cry… Why are you crying?”

After mumbling as if in a dream, she sank further into slumber.

“Sorry, Reina. I just wanted to show you Mommy…”

As they neared the capital, Carly’s farewell came to mind once again. Reina didn’t have many words to offer to the child tormented by guilt beyond his years.

“It’s okay, Carly.”

Ethan and Benedict hadn’t provided any explanation to her about what had happened.

At most, it was explained as a situation that would have been a big problem under normal circumstances, but Reina’s potent poison powers ended it as a mere ‘deep sleep’. She couldn’t make heads or tails of what that meant.

However, with no one providing a proper explanation, all she could do was nod her head in confusion. The bewildered Reina looked at the grand duke, and he reluctantly offered some advice.

“It was just a dream. A very vivid dream, that’s all.”

What was it really? That muted question floated inside her. But for now, they were leaving the royal palace. There was more urgent news to be delivered to her.

“Reina, we’ve arrived.”

At Ethan’s announcement, she shook her head slightly to clear her thoughts. Taking the hand extended to her, she stepped out of the carriage, and a brisk chill breeze brushed past her.

“Autumn has come already.”

Time certainly flies, and as fast as time passed, so many things happened in the blink of an eye.

Lehman’s departure.
The transformation of her hands and feet.
The outbreak of the plague.
And the development of a cure.

Reina looked down at her left hand, firmly held by Ethan’s large hand.

‘During all that time, Ethan and I have changed a lot too.’

Was it because of all the extraordinary events they had experienced together, or because this person named Ethan Liam gave her a sense of stability?

Reina wasn’t sure what the starting point was, but she could now say with confidence that she had feelings for Ethan Liam.

With her newfound certainty in her feelings, Reina turned her head to gaze up at her love.

“Ethan.”

In response to her soft call, he affectionately tilted his head and asked.

“Are you cold, Reina?”

The same greeting that had been cold and distant to everyone else, like a snowman that could make anyone feel icy, now felt as warm as sunlight when directed at her.

How could Reina not be sincere about Ethan?

“No, not at all. It’s not like that, Ethan.”

Repeatedly saying his name, Reina received an even brighter smile from him.

“If you’re cold, just tell me. I’ll hold you close.”

He spoke without hesitation, uttering words that might have sounded awkward from someone else. Yes, he had become Reina’s comforting presence, like a warm blanket.

Even if her hands and feet had changed, even if a plague broke out, even if everyone blamed Reina, she felt that she could accept the harsh reality as long as he was by her side.

So, was that the reason? Reina Chantra hoped that Ethan Liam belonged to her.

She longed for Ethan Liam himself, not the overwhelming power of his household, which would crush Chantra for sure, and neither his stunning appearance that left everyone in awe.

Reina stopped in her tracks and looked up at the man standing beside her once more.

“Is there something you want to say, Reina?”

“Ethan.”

“Yes, I’m listening.”

“When this is all over, will you promise to be engaged to me?”

It wasn’t the end of March when flowers began to bloom, or the middle of April that made brides smile. It was the lonely end of autumn, with winter just around the corner.

Yet, when she unexpectedly confessed, and when he stopped breathing for a moment, he smiled like a blooming flower.

Winter turned into spring as the unexpected confession made him laugh, and cherry blossoms fluttered in the air.

Ethan, who had transformed the surroundings into spring in an instant, plucked a flower petal from above Reina’s head.

“Of course.”

He replied, placing the petal on her palm. Reina eventually burst into laughter.

“No matter how giddy you feel, how can you change the seasons like this?”

“I merely made the flowers bloom. There’s no problem with that.”
