Chapter 75

“What else could it be?”
Mary took out her hairbrush—almost like an extension of herself—and beamed brilliantly.
“You haven’t been attending because of the Academy all this time. This time, you simply must become the Spring Goddess, don’t you think?”
“Ugh…”
“But to achieve that, you still have a long way to go, you know? Now, come on over and sit down. Hehe.”
Pointing to the elegant vanity that would boost her ‘combat’ prowess, Mary hummed a little tune as she signaled the beginning of serious preparations.
‘With Mary, it’s not enough to just prepare for the day.’
Whenever Mary held that brush and grinned mischievously as she does now, there was nothing I could do to stop her.
The ‘Spring Goddess’, huh. Luciana had no desire to attract attention with such a burdensome role.
‘From the beginning, that spot was already claimed.’
So she’d like to say there’s no need to go to such lengths, but that might be asking too much.
Judging by Mary’s sparkling green eyes, half-hearted preparation just wouldn’t cut it.
Luciana slumped in front of the vanity with a half-resigned expression.

“J-Just one last thing, if I add this…!”
Mary, painstakingly applying color to Luciana’s lips while holding back her breath, completed the final brushstrokes and let out a small cheer.
“Miss, how do you like it? You’re always beautiful, but today… Ah! I feel like my eyes might go blind.”
“Mary… How many times must you say that? I’m afraid someone might hear you.”
Luciana, resting her hand on her forehead, watched Mary wobble and blushed with embarrassment.
“Huh? What do you mean by that, Miss! Surely everyone feels the same as I do, right? Haah, this moment should be immediately immortalized on canvas by Leaton Borden…”
Mary looked at Luciana in the mirror with admiration, as if summoning one of the Empire’s most renowned portrait painters.
“Heh, as expected of our lady! All your hard work has paid off!”
Each strand was meticulously combed to enhance the natural flow of her hair, and its texture was as soft as silk.
And that wasn’t all. Her eyelids, sprinkled with a warm and subtle hue of pearl, and her rosy cheeks perfectly matched the lively atmosphere of the Spring Festival.
“Finally, I’ll check your ensemble!”
Mary took Luciana to a large mirror and carefully inspected her dress, checking to ensure there were no unusual wrinkles.
“Hmm. As expected, spring calls for ribbons and frills.”
Unlike the winter, when she was dressed in wool or fox fur, the gentle spring weather allowed her graceful neckline and waistline to be revealed, highlighting Luciana’s slender figure.
‘It seems spring has truly come.’
Luciana gazed at her reflection in the mirror.
Though it was exhausting to be in front of the vanity from early morning, wearing a flowing spring dress after so long lifted her spirits.
“Now then, shall we set off!”
“Good job. Thank you, Mary.”
Finally, after donning a bonnet to shield herself from the intense spring sun, she concluded her lengthy preparations.

‘What’s with him, coming here so early?”
Luciana hurried out to the entrance upon hearing that her partner had arrived.
Then, she saw a visitor admiring the garden, tended according to her father’s tastes.
“Ah.”
A light sound of footsteps made his gaze turn toward Luciana.
“I thought you were just going there for the sake of attendance? And look at you, all dolled up.”
It was a familiarly defiant voice.
Anyone could take one glance at her and think that she had ‘I’m off to the Spring Festival today’ written all over her outfit.
“Sorry, did you wait long?”
“Not really?”
“…Or are you just sulking again?”
“Bingo, you dummy older sister.”
“Seriously, who’s calling who a dummy?”
Even after not seeing each other in ages, they started bickering right off the bat.
