The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
In the Carlton Empire, it was widely known that visiting ‘Serenade’ was a pathway to achieving successful love. This not only emphasized the esteemed reputation of ‘Serenade’, but also hinted at the presence of numerous fools in the Empire who struggled with relationships.
As the fame of ‘Serenade’ continued to rise regardless of social status, influential patrons from aristocratic society flocked to it. Selena carefully selected and accepted commissions from among them; she was aware that there were quite a few people with unstable mentalities among them.
It was widely known that many individuals, particularly from the aristocracy, struggled to handle rejection and interpreted a simple ‘no’ as a form of resentment. Consequently, they sought out ‘Serenade’ for their own selfish desires. However, Selena firmly believed that love should never be forced.
To maintain the integrity of ‘Serenade’, Selena carefully scrutinized and rejected such commissions. Nonetheless, the reason ‘Serenade’ could continue unharmed was due to Selena’s status as the daughter of Marquess Irving.
“Oh dear, this is quite troublesome.”
The problem was that if the client had such a high status that Marquess Irving’s reputation carried little weight, refusing the commission became a challenge. Much like the present situation.
‘Was it really the Princess who requested a commission…?’
The royal crest was prominently stamped at the bottom of the commission, accompanied by the name ‘Gabriella’ written above it. There was no doubt that it was a commission from Gabriella, the one and only princess of the Carlton Empire.
“Did the Princess make a strange request?” Randy asked, handing a freshly squeezed orange juice to Selena.
Selena drank a sip of the juice with a serious expression before speaking.
“No, it’s the opposite. She made a very suitable and normal request for us.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“It’s somewhat challenging for us to accept commissions from the royal family.”
“Why?”
“There’s a risk that comes along with it. If things go well, we take credit for it, but if it doesn’t, they subtly blame us.”
Among the nobles who had gone to ‘Serenade’ so far, there were many who exhibited such behavior. One could only imagine how much worse it would be with the royal family, who lived with a heightened sense of self-importance.
Just the thought of it made Selena’s head ache, and she rubbed her forehead.
“Then let’s refuse the commission, Boss. There’s nothing good about getting involved with the royal family.”
“Well… that’s also a bit difficult.” Selena hesitantly shook her head and opened her mouth with an embarrassed expression. “The Princess had a crush on a man and requested a commission because of that.”
“I see.”
“But the man she has a crush on is Dominique Dixon, a member of the Royal Knights.”
“So what?”
“Well, he’s a knight and she’s a princess, Lucy.” She placed her hand on her chest, her green eyes sparkling. “It’s like a love story that makes your heart flutter just by hearing about it.”
As a child, Selena loved stories about princes and princesses, as well as love stories between princesses and knights, or princes and commoner. Hearing that the princess had developed feelings for the knight who guarded her was enough to make Selena’s heart beat with excitement.
“Then take the commission, Boss. There’s no rumor that Princess Gabriella is narrow-minded, right?”
“I’ve only heard that she’s very cold and detached.”
Besides, Princess Gabriella is Prince Maximilian’s younger sister, one of the three suitors from her memory. After meeting Duke Ratliffe at her younger sister’s wedding, Selena was particularly concerned about that. She wondered if there might be any contact with the prince…
“It’s just a crush…”
However, the story of Princess Gabriella held a special place in Selena’s heart, and she couldn’t simply let it go. Determined, she called for Lucy.
“Lucy, what do you think Crown Prince would say if we received a commission from the princess?”
“Why would he care?”
“Well, the princess is his sister.”
“It’s unusual for siblings to take an interest in each other’s love lives,” Lucy asserted. “I never cared whether my older brother meets a woman or a man.”
“Um… But my sister is a bit different,” Randy timidly raised his hand and spoke up.
“That’s your sister, Randy.”
“That’s just you.”
If she had a timid younger brother like Randy, she would interfere too. The two of them brushed off Randy’s comment and resumed their conversation.
“His Highness probably doesn’t even know that the princess has entrusted us with this mission.”
“Well, I guess that’s just how siblings are.”
Selena, who had grown up with a younger sister and understood the dynamics of siblings, placed her trust in Lucy’s words. If there was no connection to the prince, Selena was eager to embark on the enchanting love story of the princess.
“Then let’s accept the princess’ commission. Anyone object?”
“I have no objections.”
“Me neither.” Unanimously, the next commission for Serenade was decided to be Princess Gabriella. Read ahead here.
