The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 32
Chapter 32

Humans are creatures of adaptation. The discomfort of having her right hand bandaged was only temporary. Selena quickly adapted to using only her left hand. To be precise, she had become accustomed to the attention she received from those around her, who clung to her and waited on her hand and foot since her injury.
Today, she was spending the day in her office, sitting on a soft, plush sofa, unsure if she was working or just snacking.
“Selena!”
“Lemon?” Lemon, who had just heard about Selena’s injury, burst into the office with a pale face. “I heard you were hurt. Are you alright?”
Lemon, who had rushed to Selena, who was sitting leisurely on the sofa, knelt down in front of her. He looked at Selena’s right hand, resting on the armrest, with a tender gaze and murmured softly.
“What kind of bast*rd… If I find him, I’ll tie him up and throw him into the fire.” His already low voice grew even lower, taking on a chilling tone. His words, almost as if he were chewing them, were indistinct.
Selena put down the cookie she was holding and tilted her head towards Lemon.
“Huh? What? I didn’t hear you.”
“…!” Lemon flinched as her brown hair, which smelled good, brushed against his face.
“Ah….”
“Tell me again what you said, Lemon. I didn’t hear you.”
With the genuine attitude of a true boss who wouldn’t miss even the slightest word from her subordinate, Selena listened more intently. Thanks to that, Lemon was able to see her face closer than ever before.
His cheeks flushed as he took in her long, thick eyelashes, her high, delicate nose, and her soft contours all at once. It was only a moment before his legs, which were kneeling, gave way and Lemon fell backwards.
“Lemon? Lemon! Are you okay?” Selena was startled to see Lemon suddenly fall on his backside. On the other hand, Lemon couldn’t raise his head, his face flushed with embarrassment. It wasn’t like it was something to be proud of, falling while looking at someone else’s face….
“What’s wrong? Why did you fall? Did your leg go numb?”
“Yes, sort of….”
“Oh, your blood must have stopped circulating. Are you okay? Here, grab my hand.” Selena extended her pale, slender hand in front of Lemon. Lemon hesitantly grasped her fingertips and rose to his feet with his own strength.
“Thank you, Miss Selena. I’m sorry for causing you trouble even though you’re injured.”
“It’s just my left hand. And it’s not a serious injury because I fell while taking a walk with the Princess.” Selena shrugged and said nonchalantly. Since it didn’t seem like she was seriously hurt, Lemon was relieved.
“That’s good to hear. By the way, I bought this for you as a get-well gift.” Lemon showed her the box he had been holding since entering, and Selena’s face lit up.
“Wow, is that a handmade cream puff from Lumine Patisserie? You have to wait at least two hours in line for those.”
“Yes, I remember you said you wanted to try it the other day, so I bought it for you.”
“Wow, you’re amazing. There’s no one like you, Lemon. Thank you so much!” Selena was genuinely happy.
Lemon, with a proud look on his face, took a cream puff out of the box and placed it on a plate for Selena to eat.
“Please enjoy it.”
“Okay, thank you.” Selena took a bite of the cream puff with her fork and soon started gushing about how delicious it was.
“This is the best cream puff I’ve ever had. I think it tastes even better because you bought it for me.”
“Is that so?” Lemon smiled contentedly and watched Selena eat the cream puff, then suddenly said with a dark expression.
“By the way… I’m sorry, Miss Selena.”
“What?” Selena tilted her head, chewing on the bread, confused by his sudden apology.
“I haven’t finished the investigation related to the Guild yet. I should have come back after taking care of that….”
“Huh? No, Lemon. Take your time. Don’t push yourself.”
Selena quickly swallowed the cream puff and patted Lemon’s shoulder. She had already persuaded the Princess to give up her crush and decided to end the request. Unless Dominic had secretly made some strange request to the Guild, it didn’t really matter if they were using the Guild anymore. Regardless, she was absolutely not going to let the Princess get together with him.
“Seriously, don’t push yourself. Don’t get stuck on something that’s not working.”
“No, I think if I just dig a little deeper, I mean, if I investigate a little more, I’ll find something,” Lemon said firmly, nodding, as he wanted to complete anything Selena asked of him perfectly.
“Really? Then do what you want, Lemon.” Selena smiled, choosing to ignore Lemon’s slip of the tongue. After all, the more information the better.

The day after Lemon’s visit, Gabriella visited Serenade for the first time.
“I could have gone to the Imperial Palace. Thank you for coming all the way here, Princess.”
“No, it’s nothing. You were hurt because of me, how could I have the nerve to call you here? I should be the one to come.” Gabriella, who seemed to have lost weight in a few days, smiled weakly. She looked downcast, feeling guilty as she looked at Selena’s right hand, wrapped in bandages.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t get out of the way in time and your hand….”
“Don’t say that, Princess. It’s only natural to save someone in danger. And you didn’t drop the statue, so why are you saying you’re the reason I got hurt?” Selena said bluntly, showing no regret about her injury to Gabriella. Gabriella’s eyes welled up because her green eyes were the same as before and after the accident.
“Thank you for saying that…. You are truly the kindest and best person I have ever met.”
“You’re flattering me.”
“It’s the truth. And I’m sorry. I should have come sooner.” Selena looked at Gabriella with curious eyes, wondering why she had been hesitant to visit, and Gabriella spoke slowly.
“I was so shocked at the time, and I’ve been busy investigating the cause of the accident.”
“So you’ve found out why the statue fell?”
Gabriella nodded.
